Congratulations to Weston Dressler on being named NCC special teams player of the week.

These tribes are simply reaffirming what they've been saying for years. I don't see how it hurts UND any further. Now, if the Spirit Lake Sioux withdraw their support, that's another matter.

Did you forget about this part of the NCAA policy issued Aug. 5? That's why the NCAA's claim that the policy doesn't take effect until Feb. 1 is pure bovine scatology. If I wanted to be even more cynical about the NCAA's motives, I could speculate that saying "effective immediately" and then setting a Feb. 1 deadline would have the effect of driving up the demand for the soon-to-be-outlawed merchandise, putting even more money into the NCAA's coffers.

I'm fairly certain the article will be slanted to the left. However, I'm always interested in seeing just how the spin is applied.

UM-Duluth's Jay Rosehill signed with Tampa Bay today. He's a 6-3, 210-pound sophomore. I'm hoping that this improves Smaby's chances of staying with the Sioux.

You're welcome, kfah1 and LB#11. As long as I know people are reading the articles, I'll keep posting the links as I find them. I understand that Time magazine has been in touch with UND about the NCAA controversy. It'll be interesting to see how that story that turns out. Anything that puts more people closer to downtown will help the downtown area. When I lived in Bismarck, one of the biggest boosts to what was then a struggling downtown was the restoration of the old Patterson Hotel, which was turned into apartments. Peacock Alley, a wonderful bar and restaurant, was built on the ground floor of the huge (by North Dakota standards) building. That project helped rejuvenate the vitality of downtown Bismarck. I never agreed with the "if you build it, they will come" approach used in to restore downtown Grand Forks after the flood. Sure, it looks much nicer, but there are many empty buildings. If you give people a reason to be downtown (such as having residences nearby), then the businesses and nightlife will follow.

That's good to know. It would be great if this pressure from the outside backfired, resulting in an even stronger resolution of support for UND from the Spirit Lake Sioux. We'll just have to wait and see.
