Give me a break. I was in SRO in Section 1. Sections 2&3 were filled with the lowest of low of hockey fans. All night it was one thing after another. There was this guy in a throwback jersey....he was the WORST!

think of it this way, I DOUBT the idiots with the sign even KNOW of Siouxsports.com and or GPL, so I'd bet it is safe to say that we all agree about what is classless and what is ribbing here. I think all this bi-oching is preaching to the chior(s) of the fans of BOTH teams that post here.

like it has been said, bad fans can be found anywhere, in Columbus last year my friend had to pull me away from UND fans that were getting in my face after our loss/your win....they are everywhere, and all of us have examples of good and bad....time to move on and look for post season match ups...

Fire Helmet Guy, I've read your posts on this board and you sound like a decent guy, but I have to disagree with you on the actions of the students in Section 2. I was at the John on Friday night in section 2 row 11. Obviously I have no idea who WPOS is, or where he sits in section 2, or if he even still even sits there, but I can tell you about the students in Section 2 on Friday night. There was a group of about 8 to 10 firing off racist commentary for the entire game, organized chants. I honestly can not believe a decent Gopher fan or some security person could not have at least told these ignorant idiots to shut the hell up. Parents with small children sitting right in front of these students as they chanted derogatory and racist statements about native americans, I don't think I need to give examples of what was said, but if you want me to, I will get back later. It's funny, how an institution like the U of M, that has adopted the SCSU policy of not even mentioning the nickname "Fighting Sioux" over the P.A., allows their fans to come to a University arena and spout their racist statements, and believe me, at times, a majority of the time, everyone in that section could hear them. Not once, were they ever talked to. I have been to games at SCSU, Duluth, UW, DU, and have never heard what I heard from this group on Friday, it was appalling, and an embarrassment to decent U of M fans, I know there are a few out there.
Actually, that IS my group, and actually I was telling that one person specifically to be quiet and clean up his act. He was embarassing me....yelling at kids, and trying to pick fights is NOT my bag....
I doubt sagard, Greyeagle, and even WPoS do those things at the games. I'm also sure that 90 percent of the Mariucci crowd doesn't do those things.
The chants are really stupid and infantile, but I don't think that makes them classless. We have our own stupid infantile chants. We say the "Gophers suck" all the time! It's the PC crowd that doesn't understand that when the Gopher fans yell "Sioux suck" they are talking about the sports team and not the people.
I've always maintained that no one has to like a particular program, but respecting them whether they are undefeated or winless should be part of the deal. That means no insensitive signs, no throwing stuff onto the ice before, during, or after the game (unless it is a hat after a hattrick or an intermission game like "Chuck a Puck"), and so on.
I guess the Mariucci crowd did not show good behavior this past weekend and I think Diggler and gang have it right on: The main people to blame for this is whoever was the dunce that thought that there wasn't a need for tighter security at this series. I would think that, for home series vs. UND and UW, there would be very tight security.
Actually MM, if you think of my handle, I DO like the penalty cheer and DO participate in it lustily....but I DO try to refrain from stuff I would have said 5-10 years ago.....but I will ALWAYS do the "traditional" (see the "cheers" section on GPL if you are at ALL interested in the "tradional" cheers/chants) cheers for ANY team we play against. And yes, If I yell "Sioux Suck" it is the team not the native peoples I am saying sucks...my guide, I'll yell it if I hear it on Clear Channel radio stations or on FOX TV stations..
As for our security, you need your AARP card to be a member....they can't move that fast!

One thing the gopher fans better do is to reign in Doug Woog. He is the one saying that most of Kessel's assists come from missed shots. That was a nice pass to Harrington though. I would much rather play the gophers on a small ice sheet with few powerplays. The Sioux powerplay needs to get cranking down the stretch, as that will be the difference down the stretch whether they stay where they are, drop, or make a push for top three. Sioux need to take care of business at home the next few weekends, and if they do that, I wouldn't be surprised to see them tied with the gophers at that point as splits with CC and Wisconsin would do that trick. If not, CC might be taking a bit of a fall.

Your PK got a workout this weekend and id a good job, sadly for my team yesterday, and sadly for the rest of the WCHA, you got clicking on it and will continue down the stretch I am sure.
I did see WPoS, and he was around well after the band had packed and left. I can, and will, vouch for his character. He is as big as a Gopher fan as I have met, as big as I am a Sioux fan. Our common ground is the respect for the game and the league. Of course, I suspect that he would rather see anyone win the NC but the Sioux, as I would rather see anyone win the NC but the Gophers.WPoS is a knowledgeable and a solid fan. He may not drive an American SUV, but that is about it for the extent of his flawed character. He is proof why there are life jackets and rafts on every sinking ship full of boneheads and idiots. I would throw WPoS a life jacket, or let him get in my raft, any day. This I would not say for many of the Gopher fans who were barking at us in The John over the weekend.
We will likely see WPoS in person at The Ralph come March 24. Look for the beat up foreign car in the parking lot. Or the guy wearing the home electronic monitoring device on his ankle.
Hey now, the winter car is a good old AMERICAN '93 Pontiac Sunbird....altho it may not last the winter...I got a bump for you anytime you stop over NDH....

I"ve seen a large number of calls on the Gophers this year (on FSN) on similar hits. Even a few this weekend that weren't called. None, including the two called on the Sioux, have any resemblence to the Paukovich hit, which much more closely resembled multiple from behind hits thrown by Demarchi over the years.
Last night CC got one in the first period that resulted in four Wisco PP goals. If teams are going to be aggressive, they are going to take some of these penalties, when forwards turn their backs just as the hit is about to be made.
Why, may I ask, to you feel the need to rip the Sioux and fans, on a Sioux board, after a Gopher loss? Character issues?
Because sprig, I'm calling a spade a spade, I saw MANY UND fans bi-oching about the major calls, your fans are no different than others, I have no desire to see ANY player hurt, or actually cause issues here, but like I said a spade is a spade....I'm NOT saying you are condoning the actions, I look towards the coaches (on all teams) to get on players that do that crap.
Did you not also notice the praise I gave your squad? I guess I can only do wrong in your eyes....which about all I EVER get from you....my character is fine, just ask NDH, I actually have met him and (SHOCK) talked to him.....but you like to only get on my case....that is YOUR character.
I'm fine with the loss, as I said earlier, UND wanted it more and your tender played better, what do you want me to do?

WOW! What do these old people think a COLLEGE game is supposed to be like? MY GOD, let the students have SOME fun before they get old and crotchety! They want to make all thee arenas sterile and boring so we can protect our kids form bad words/behaviour....news flash, watch FOX sometime and you'll see/hear worse on TV right there....what will UW do to their students/fans to get them to "behave", remove their vocal cords (or well maybe a lobotomy would help, lord knows it MIGHT improve their intelligence)?Good luck, you have an uphill battle!

as stated, every team has their good, and BAD fans. My friends and I ALWAYS stay till after our band is done, I've NEVER left a game early....as for tossing stuff on the ice, not a fan, only things that belong on the ice are the players, ref, pucks and hats after a hattie....so you tossing dead animals is just as classless. Met some GOOD UND fans this weekend, met some BAD ones....at least at Mecca, while some leave early, we don't have a chant that uses the F bomb as you do....THAT is classless....
My personal fav cheer of the weekend "we have trees!"

not going to plow thru all the posts this AM. Few thoughts from a semi-tolerated (at least till now) Gopher fan.
Lammy deserved the player of the game....wow, he played well, and had some great luck as well.
UND wanted the win more it seems, you did a good job shutting down our PP, congrats on that.
I told my friends it was going to be a one goal game, (I was right except for the ENG)
Met a few more SS.com people, pretty good eggs.
I'll take 3 out of four for the year. I am sure we'll meet again post season.
At least one of your goals helped my fantasy team.

For as much as you want to remember Bina and his injury, your team has a large tendancy to hit from behind near the boards...see 2 majors for that this weekend alone and one hit near the boards on Irmen.
As for Irmen's jersey tug at the Ralph, you guys got even with Lammy's hitting of the glass by one of our student sections after the win, in the same class if you ask me, not that I think either are that big of a deal, but I heard plenty about it last night.
I will now go hide behinde the large rock while you lob stones at me...

Sadly, be careful what you say, last year a lot of people were counting UND down and out, but they made steam at the end of the season and made it to the FF...Never count a good WCHA program out of it....
That said, my personal opinion of Lucia is class all the way and a lot of the viterol here is sour grapes...
