What am I talking about? You referred to them as a great team. I don't think they have accomplished nearly enough to be called a great team at this point. I've see great Sioux basketball teams. I hope this team develops into one that is as good as the Vonesh teams, but they have to prove that on the court. I'm not gonna just annoint them as a great team based on potential.

It would nice to see a bump in gate after the transition that SDSU did: @TerryVandrovecTerry Vandrovec In new Board of Regents athletic report, SDSU had $981,423 in gate revenues in 2010-11. The five other state schools totaled $421,632.
-
Isn't calling them a great team a bit strong at this point?
-
You make a good point. Because of that, I wonder how long Kelley will allow fans to show up to UND events wearing Sioux gear, and cheering for UND athletics? How long before the NCAA considers that de facto UND support of the Sioux nickname? Given the H & A list, it wouldn't surprise me if the NCAA ends up considering fans wearing Sioux gear as tatamount to wearing an obscene T-shirt. This whole thing makes me sick.
-
I get the satire about this issue, but really, if you can't say the other team sucks then we are really in deep.
-
I agree with you on the one sport specialization. Playing multiple sports always increases overall athleticism. He should go out for FB, but my advice would be, even if he gets a D1 FB offer and a D2 BB offer, if BB is his passion then he should follow that.
-
Boy, how do you define "making it"? If I played BB against a guy over 6'5 that wasn't offered a basketball scholarship from somewhere, he's not coming to mind.
-
Then the next salvo: @MikeABarberMike Barber NDSU coach Craig Bohl is available to television media but not print reporters. Guess it's only softball questions the day before game. #JMU This may be pretty interesting by kickoff.
-
Must they have "North Dakota" as part of their name? Why do I feel like my loser brother just got me in trouble? @JMUsportsblogJMU Sports Blog Attn NDSU commenters on the blog: telling us Harrisonburg would only be the 4th largest city in ND says more about ND than the 'burg.
-
I was thinking more like they spent it on Arizona or some other western state.
-
I wonder if the recruiting budget money for travel was spent elsewhere?
-
No, what he did in the dome was what he had been doing all season. The dome game was a bigger stage and caught the attention of people that were late to the party. Despite the timing of the actual offers, Woods has been recruited all year by the usual suspects.
-
You may on to something there. Plays the sport he likes better on scholarship, and plays FB with a fraction of the commitment required of FCS.
-
To clarify: Woods has been considering Moorhead for basketball. Walthall has been in contact with him for a long time. I've seen/heard nothing to conclude he's interested in playing football at less than FCS level. That's not to say that the dragon FB coach is ignoring him though or that he hasn't/won't receive d2 FB offers.
-
Isn't that why they bring in recruits on home hockey weekends?

I noticed he referenced the tradition of winning of ndsu. If a kid from Bemidji isn't also aware of the UND football tradition, even without a coach in his living room telling him about it, that tells me the marketing department has work to do. It is easier than ever to get your message in front of a kid given the technology/media use of kids today. No area athlete should be in the dark about UND. I've made this point before about the difficulty of punching through local media messaging of ndsu and the mvfc. UND will have to work that much harder with local kids to push UND/BSC. The first time a kid hears of it can't be when the coach is finally in the living room. The coaches can't do it all themselves.
-
He reported on the sports tonight that UND is visiting him this week. That's presumably a home visit? Time for Muss to seal the deal. I'd imagine NDSU is offering him the chance to start as a freshman since the Wahpeton kid will be the only returning WR with significant playing time. I wonder if Muss will dangle that same opportunity-and I don't mean the obligatory "everyone has a shot to play".
-
For what it's worth: @DomIzzoWDAYDom Izzo #Bemidji WR Carey Woods said #NDSU has offered him full ride, he's leaning towards #NDSU, Woods had sensational year at #Bemidji

I suspect standing room isn't included in "seating capacity" numbers. I kind of like allowing that overage. It is a good indicator to show the need for expansion. Most impressive are those teams that aren't very good, yet are well supported.
-
Here are the numbers sorted by capacity- http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2011/Internet/attendance/FCS_CAPACITY.pdf
-
A good analysis here of the attendance numbers- http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2011/Internet/attendance/FCS_ATTENDANCE.pdf As has been discussed extensively here, UND has a long way to go. Bison Dan-as promised, I give ndsu credit for the improvement this year. Although it isn't reflected in the ranking, the overall improvement from last year was significant.
-
I'm sure it's somewhere in here http://www.valley-football.org/history/playoffs/

I heard that same "sellout" and "near sellout" crap last year too, and yet the 2010 average was less than 16k. I've also been around long enough to remember the "20,000 on the Tenth!" media campaign in the late 80s at Dakota Field. Only to have ndsu officials come out and say they didn't actually count seats Dakota Field. So, you'll forgive me if I don't believe one damn word of that "sellout" s**t. When the NCAA releases the 2011 numbers, then I'll give credit for making progress.

Both ways? Lincoln is a statistical anomaly, like Green Bay, and you could argue GF for hockey. Missoula isn't delivering Lincoln numbers. They are delivering what, roughly 25% of their county population? It's not like Fargo is a small community struggling to fill a stadium that's too big. Fargo just isn't keeping keeping up with a peer like Missoula. Again, that's a problem for ndsu to figure out.
-
How is the population count flawed? It's census data. Despite a small population, communites like Missoula and, to your example-Lincoln, overwhelmingly support their team. Why Fargo doesn't keep up is something the ndsu marketing department must figure out.
