  1. Offensively, they run a 50-50 run-pass offense. The passing portion is a vertical-style game and in no way resembles the West Coast offense. Lots of post patterns, flag routes, and quick outs. The strength of the offense is the O-line which is equally adept at pass protection and run blocking. They open big holes for a shifty and fast RB who reacts to defenders and makes amazing cuts.

Defensively, UND runs the 3-4 and is geared to stopping the run, and neutralizing the short passing game. They have fast athletic linebackers that are more suited to run containment and pass defense than rushing the QB. The secondary largely plays a man-on-man scheme rather than zone.

I won't speculate on who would win if we played this year, but my personal opinons on the two teams are as follows:

NDSU has a much better defense than UND.

UND has a much better offense than NDSU.

UND has better players at every skill-position than NDSU, except punter.

LINEBACKERS? QB? WR? (As a core not just ONE player) O-Line? Just because your team puts 600 on a DII team doesn't mean they can do the same at the next level or even against a faster NDSU defense

  2. They're good, but not as good as they think they are. If the two teams were to play it would be anybody's ballgame. If they played 10 times I would expect them to each win 5. But the fact of the matter is they aren't on our schedule and we shouldn't even waste our breath talking about them. They're insignificant to the status of our football team. Until they conjure up the courage to play us again we shouldn't give them the attention they so desperately crave.

   ;)

  3. Congrats to RR for the decade mark, I remember playing with/against Smith when he was a middle schooler, lol/.

Smith had a very hard senior year with the exception of Mr. Tennis. Chad was taken to the hospital because of severe cramping and had to withdraw from the individuals. It was very hard to watch him still playing in the point while his right hand was cramping and his face showed unbelievable pain. Then during the rest of the match his body just shut down in cramping to the eventual state champ Grant Bakke.

  4. Now your best chance is next year? I thought it was last weekend at regionals? What about state?

I think your best chance will be in the year 2000. You will be tough that year.

i said our best chance was in the 3-2 format and not just this year

  5. Again, I have to disagree with you. You showed what you know about ND Tennis when you said South would give RRHS a run in a 3-2 dual. RRHS won 5-0. Now to save face, you say "well RRHS is nothing against Minnesota teams. They wouldn't even make it out of the first round."

Would RRHS take state every year like they do in ND? Probably not.

Is RRHS good enough to compete with every team in Minnesota? I would argue yes.

With the exception of the Minneapolis schools, because they have more money and facilities, what gives the Minnesota schools the advantage over RRHS?

I will use your same logic and say South would have absolutely no chance competing in Minnesota if RRHS doesn't. RRHS has beaten you how many times in a row now?

i've seen Red River play and i've seen minnesota schools play. if RR played in the section that moorhead plays in then they may be able to make it to state because moorehead was one win away from state. That is the truth. ND tennis is no comparison to Minnesota state and again that is true. They are just better in Minnesota. RR could maybe make it to state once every year but in no way would they make a run during the state tourney. Tyler Hjalmquist (who plays for Moorehead) Could most likely play 2 or 3 if not 1 for GFRR because he is that good where he has a seperate personal coach. RR has some players that are deadly over rated and then some that are underrated. For example, RR puts Smith infront of Kraft which is stacking the line up since Kraft beat Smith 3 and 4 in indy's last saturday and then Central's Matt Fuka beat Smith as well so Chad dropped to 4th at EDC and will most likely fall before or in the quarters to Grant Bakke. Joe Lee on the other hand is a great player who could most likely play top 4 for RR.

Our best chance at beating RR (only way would be at 3-2) is next year when they lose 2 of their top 3 singles this year and we don't lose any. of course they will reload but that is when we will have our best chance.

  6. Not a DII poll but fun nonetheless...

Massey has UND at #2 (DII) only behind UNO.

    #1 - UNO

    #2 - UND

    #3 - NWMSU

    #4 - Valdosta State

    #5 - USD

    GO SIOUX

Where is GVSU?? And talk about an NCC powerhouse top 5

  7. x2 MN>ND. We made it to MN state in 2002 (my senior year), and probably the best tennis players I have ever seen were there. Don't get me wrong, RR has been completely dominating in ND for the last decade or so. But I would like to see RR or South play any of the teams from MN Section 4 or 5.

i agree with you 100% that is why i said what i said. i would love to see how GFRR does at MN state. I am sure they wouldn't even make it past the first round and wouldn't win a match.

  8. Red River won today 5-0, no surprise. Something that doesn't show up in the team box score is that Michael Kraft beat McGuigan again (2nd time in the day) in the individual competition 6-3, 6-0. This really puts South in a tough spot for state, as they will also have to get through Bis. Century.

we beat cent. 3-2 earlier this year

  9. I kind of find this all amusing. And yes, I know the title is ND tennis. Now I haven't seen much of ND tennis, but I've seen some Twin Cities tennis, and these kids down here are dang good. I've also coached in Southern California and the kids down there are even better. So my question is this: Are these ND kids ranked on the junior circuit?

ND tennis isn't anywhere close to even Minnesota tennis. Our state Champ Josh Oothoudt could probably be the only one to compete in minnesota individuals. Along with last years runner up Max Piepkorn but he has graduated

  10. Would that be today?

I'm looking forward to seeing some results on this match.

See if NDSUFREAK10's prediciton of a battle came true.

We lost 5-0 today. Parker took chad to 3 sets taking the first 6-1 and then losing the next 4-6 4-6, Kraft and McGuigan had a long tough match where the end score didn't say the whole thing. Joe Lee is just an unbelievable player and will be a state contender within a year beat Eric Moe our 3 handly. In doubs i lost to Yunker/Marahsinge 1 and 1 with the other doubles also dominating. Doubles results were not surprising at all because we knew we needed singles or else. hey, i didn't guarentee a win, it was a battle in singles and we still have 4 more meetings to look forward to (1 more this year hopefully and then 3 next year)

GFRR is a great team and so are we. The season isn't over yet and we have a lot to shoot for. As the matches go on Red River has more and more pressure to keep the streak. We played our hearts out and that is what you have to do.

  11. "VERY" close is not a win. 2000 was the last time RR lost to South. Again, to be the man you must beat the man. Good Luck, you will need it.

Its all in the process. I bring up Max as an example because he went though the same thing parker is going through. got dominated, competed, studied the play, competed even better, win.

  12. I think that was me who predicted a 7-2 victory. Thank you very much

I will not argue that a team is more vulnerable in a 3-2 setting but you can not match RRHS's depth. You have 2 players that are capable of beating RR players. You need 3 to win.

Fact of the matter is, RR has not lost a state or regional, correct me if I am wrong, since 1999. You can come on here and proclaim South is a great tennis team but to that I will respond...

To be the man, you must beat the man. And the last time I checked you haven't done that in quite some time.

In all do respect red river lost in regionals in 2000.....losing to Fargo South. We have 3 players able to compete and beat red river's top 3 and that was proved last tuesday when our #1 was VERY close to beating chad (he knows how to beat chad thanks to a young guy and friend named Max Piepkorn) Our #2 can beat kraft and our #3 has the ability to beat whoever RR puts at #3 (Ladoucer, which our #3 beat 6-1 6-3 or Davis.) Again, it will be competitive to the fullest and we're ready.

  13. You know i really dont think he forgot to mention. In fact i know he didnt, all he did was state the solid 7-2 win by RR. I think someone predicted a 7-2 win....best case scenario. But hey, at least you won your JV match.

jv? i didn't play varsity for red river and red river only the entire year but i'm playing 2 doubs for EDC and State. the one thing that we have the advantage going up against red river on friday morning is the mind set and how we want it more than they do and we're not afraid of this spell that red river has over everyone in the state. i'm not guarenteeing a win this weekend against them but i'm a guarenteeing a battle.

  14. Red River takes the dual 7-2.

oh, you forgot to mention that the 2 players that will be 2 and 3 for our EDC and State lineup beat red rivers top singles players in Kraft and Ladoucer. Not to mention our number one went 10-5 in a 3rd set tiebreaker against Chad. We have a very good chance in this years and next years EDC and State

  15. There were definitely empty seats at both games but the big difference is that NDSU's game was called a sellout and UND's was not. I wonder who buys all those tickets for NDSU games and never shows up. NDSU's administration must buy up the tickets so they can say they have a sellout.

18,961 was the number of people there. "Capacity" is 18,700 and as you can compare the numbers the bigger number is 18,961 so that means a sell out of capacity. cute that you are making up excuses and denying that the BISON actually sells out the game.

The first FCS game at the tin will be a sellout and if it isn't then you should be worrying about the next couple years of football in gf

  16. I always like to throw my hat into the ring when a discusion about Bison ticket "give-aways" comes up. ;)

I don't know anything about "free" tickets to their game today, but I did watch it on TV tonight (very good game by the way). The announcers said it was another sell-out, 3rd in a row! Well, if that was a sell out, they had to have run a last minute promotion this week, and it must have been "Dress Like a Blue Chair Day". :)

Where are all of NDSU's Forensic Accountants when we really need them?

I'm glad you were watching the BISON football game on STATEWIDE TV! :D

  17. Kolpack made it sound like UND was going to start building tomorrow. Kolpack said we had better be selling out the Alerus for a few years before we talk about expansion. I do beleive UND said this is down the road if necessary. UND was implying that if attendance did grow in the next few years. I guess Kolpack is just trying to make up a story that makes UND look foolish. I see NDSU might sell out for the game tomorrow. I heard that if you stopped at Scheel's today you could get . 2 tickets free for their game tomorrow with no questions asked. That's one way of selling out. I don't think we will ever need 25,000 seats for future games but it would be nice if we could seat 18 or 20 thousand seats. I think our football team is definitely heading in the right direction.

wow, who did you hear that from?? :D

  18. A brief story which stated that if UND outgrows the Alerus Center then Memorial Stadium could be expanded to seat 25-35k by adding onto both ends.

UND still has a one year contract with the Alerus.

OUTGROW THE ALERUS CENTER! :D;) Ohhh, yess. Sorry but i'm just speaking the truth here, you gotta average in the double digit thousands before you should think about it.

  19. What many national sports coumnists are calling "one of the greatest upsets of all time," is not shocking at all to a Fargo media man.

    Go Figure. .... :D

More reason not to trust the Fargo Forum.

because most of those writers had no idea who App State was and how good they are as a team.

  20. You wimps. Are you saying the Sioux would not beat them? With friends like you, who needs enemies?

they're saying that even you are stupid to say the sioux would beat the BISON by 30. they aren't saying they wouldn't win but it would be more competitive. remember that a 36 schollie team does not beat a 63 schollie team by 30.

  21. BISON played horrible against SFA and won. 5 official turnovers and that should have been 7 because the refs said the knee was down when it most definitely wasn't down. Disapointing win if there is such thing and it wasn't the greatest game to watch. Definitely not shouting from the roof tops that we beat SFA and und shouldn't do the same because they beat SUU. That was an easy win for und even before they got on the plane to utah
