  1. Lakeland Public TV annonced last night on their broadcast that all Beaver home games will be broadcast live on the main station in HD instead of on the Plus station. This is great news for BSU Hockey as it now gets them on DirecTV as well as Dish Network live in the Minneapolis market. Also, they are going to be on the Minnesota PBS station, which gets them into more PBS markets in Minnesota. The Up North Sports Blog recapped all of this here: http://northsports.areavoices.com/2010/09/12/sunday-sports-notebook-bemidji-state-hockey-games-coming-to-minnesota-channel-new-lakeland-sports-director-postgame-thoughts-on-bsu-augustana-football-game/
  2. Wow, how did Bemidji and Mankato end up with the Michigan Schools? Travel would kill their budgets (and probably programs) when UND, SCSU, UMD and UNO are all closer. I think if the Big Ten schools break off, you will need to see a more regional alliance. This will help offset the travel part of the budget with the monies lost from possibly not playing the Minnesotas and Wisconsins of the hockey world.
  3. According to Moose over on USCHO, BSU has to set aside 140 tickets for the visiting school (WCHA Requirement). He also stated that UND already has those tickets in hand, so you may want to give the school a call to check on the details. Also, keep checking on StubHub. I know they have set up a site for BSU tickets and you just may find a ticket or two there. Not sure what they will be going for, but face value is right around $21 before any BeaverPride premium seating fees. Hmmmm...... Maybe I should put my four seats up for auction......NAH!
  4. I knew it was tongue in cheek, as was my comment. Scott and Monsy do a great job of calling the games and staying fairly objective. And yes, I think everyone who works in broadcasting will be happy with the new press box digs that the Beavers have. I always laugh when people complain about an announcer being a homer (although some announcers do take it too far). I just ask them who are paying the announcers and there really isn't a reply...... If you don't like the talk, the mute button is always there. 56 days and counting down to the BREC Opening!
  5. It is carried as part of the local channel lineup for the Twin Cities market on DishNetwork and DirecTV.
  6. Yeah, he is, but he is our homer! But he also knows his stuff about the opponents, unlike the homers from other teams (Woog calling BSU the Bulldogs all night as an example). Hopefully he doesn't have to call on me for any color backup like he has in the past. The ratings will really take a nose dive then. An area blog on what this agreement means for BSU and northern Minnesota: http://northsports.areavoices.com/2010/08/17/bemidji-statelakeland-tv-agreement-great-news-for-hockey-fans-in-northern-minnesota/
  7. BSU and Lakeland Public TV make it official http://www.bsubeavers.com/mhockey/news/103/2867/
  8. Goon is correct. Right now, a little over 80% of the building has been sold either to season ticket holders, held back for the student ticket allotment (500) and held back for the visiting team (400). BSU is going to cap season ticket sales at 90%, leaving around 470 tickets for individual game sales. The building will seat between 4500 and 5000, but no one seems to know the exact number and won't until the seats start going in. 4700 has been what I have heard most often. BUT, what I have heard is that most of those 470 individual game tickets are spoken for as BSU is reserving them for hockey alumni that wish to attend that opening series. BSU and the BREC has set up with StubHub for season ticket holders to sell their tickets. So as the dates get closer, you may want to watch that site. With scalping now legal in Minnesota, anyone selling tickets to that first series should get more than face value for them.
  9. I could see doing that and adding Duluth to the mix since they are a northern Minnesota team. St. Cloud and Mankato, ehhh.... keep them on Plus.
  10. I like that idea. Let Lakeland Plus have the live broadcast and then push it out on the main network taped delayed either after the news or even the next morning/noonish.
  11. Here is an update on the possible Lakeland TV coverage of BSU Home Hockey Games from today's Bemidji Pioneer: http://www.bemidjipioneer.com/event/article/id/100019339/ I hope they can find a way to get it on the main channel and not one of the alternates. The exposure to DirectTV and DishNetwork customers in the Twin Cities market would be huge. I can't get the over the air channels in the Alexandria area, but my DirectTV package has it. The BSU alumni that I know in this area would love to be able to see the home games if they can't get up to Bemidji for them.
  12. I am hoping the C-Section will be 7-10 days early like it was for our first. That way I should be able to get away for a game, but probably not the whole weekend as I am sure my wife won't feel like traveling.
  13. I saw some discussion on some threads regarding television coverage of the games out of Bemidji to open the season. I have heard that Lakeland Public TV has bought the rights to telecast Beaver Hockey Home Games! This will increase the viewing market for BSU hockey as Lakeland Public TV not only covers an area from Canada to Little Falls over the air, but also shows up on DirectTV and DishNetwork as part of the Twin Cities market (I get it in the Alexandria area off of DirectTV). If they can line up all the sponsorships needed, it will be great exposure for the Green and White of Bemidji! Can't wait for the season to start. I may have to miss the series though as my wife and I are expecting a little boy with a due date of October 14. But his sister was delivered by C-Section 10 days early, so maybe, just maybe, I will be able to get up to Bemidji for the opening of the BREC.
  14. Thanks for the information. I will get this out to the Beaver Faithful who can't make it to Grand Forks!
  15. I didn't think it was too bad, I have seen worse. Both teams got the elbows up on a lot of checks and they called a lot of contact to the head because of it. I don't have a problem with that call as concussions are starting to become a problem throughout sports. Keep the elbows down and use the body........ The interference calls, I just sometimes begin to wonder what constitutes interference and what doesn't. If you are going to call it, call it consistently in ALL areas of the ice. That would probably be my biggest grip is being consistent. Let the players know how you are going to call the game and stick with it. Looking forward to LISTENING to some Beaver victories this weekend! Green over Red in all games!
  16. Boy, I wish the Fighting Sioux Network would webcast the BSU games. I know I would purchase them, along with several other BSU fans that can't make the trip. I bet there are some Ohio State and Miami fans that would lay a few $$$ down also.
  17. Thought I would throw this out there since I said the Sioux always seem to get healthy after playing the Beavers. Did a little digging into just seeing how it has played out. 1999-2000: BSU at UND, UND wins 9-2 and 6-3. UND was 22-7-5 before the series, went 7-1 after and won the NCAAs. 2000-2001: UND at BSU, UND wins 5-1 and 6-3. UND was 22-5-9 before the series, 5-3 after and lost in the NCAA Championship. 2002-2003: BSU at UND in the Championship of the Subway Classic. UND wins 4-3. UND was 17-1-1 before, only go 8-11-4 after. 2004-2005: BSU at UND, tie 3-3 and UND wins 3-1. UND was 14-10-2 before, goes 10-5-2 after and loses in the NCAA Championship. 2005-2006: BSU and UND home and home, UND wins 2-1 and 5-1. 10-7-1 before, 17-9 after and makes the Frozen Four. 2006-2007: BSU and UND home and home, UND wins 3-2 and 6-3. UND was 11-11-2 before, goes 11-3-3 after and makes the Frozen Four. 2007-2008: BSU at UND, UND wins 5-1 and 1-0. 19-8-2 before, 7-3-2 after and makes the Frozen Four. 2008-2009: BSU and UND home and home, UND wins 4-3 and 4-3 (OT). UND was 9-10-1 before, so far they are 2-0 after. Take it for what it is worth.
  18. Good thing my lunch break is an hour long. I have seen scalpers outside the Glas for the "BIG GAMES", so there may be some out there tonight and I have no idea what they get for tickets (just remember, face for this game is $18 for adults). The game will be on in Bemidji. The Corner Bar in Nymore (south end of Lake Bemidji) has a big screen TV and some other TVs over the bar and is a big time hockey supporter. They also have awesome burgers. GO BEAVERS!
  19. This year's SCSU game on Friday night packed the place with 3019 (a sellout is 2499). Usually the Sioux are the best draw of the year for us, it will be interesting to see if they can pack that many in tonight. With the students still on break, I am not too sure what the atmosphere will be like. I just hope I can get there for it. I like the fact that many UND fans enjoy making the trip to the Glas. All UND fans I have been around have been class acts, unlike SCSU and some of the UMD and MTU fans. U of M fans have generally been good natured (when we can get on their schedule) as have MSU-M fans. It is not much of an arena, but you are right on the action. Too many times we hear from other fans what a joke of an arena we have, but the closeness to the action, I love it. GO BEAVERS!
  20. I saw a Craiglist add on Monday out of the Twin Cities that was advertising tickets to tonight's game. They were asking $35 for an adult ticket ($18 face) and $25 for a child ($9 face). I just about spit out my beverage I was drinking. I wish I had a good answer for you. I know BSU released a block of leftover tickets that was reserved for students today. You could try to call the ticket office again at 877-3HOCKEY. Unfortunitely, I may now not make the game tonight. My wife has come down with a "bug" of some sort and I don't feel right about leaving her home with our four month old if she is sick. I guess I will find out how bad she is when I get home from work here shortly. If I couldn't make it, I could sell you our two adult and one child at face, but I am in Alexandria....... GO BEAVERS!
  21. I just don't know........ She has always had it out for the Beavers. Then the Beavers starting looking into getting into the WCHA, and she got a little more vocal about it. Then Tech got swept by BSU and she really let it fly! The Glas should be rocking this Friday night. With school not back in session, it will be interesting to see what the student section is like. If I was still a student, I would definitely make the trip to Bemidji for this one! I can not wait for Friday night. My daughter will turn four months on that day and be looking to go 6-1 in BSU games that she has been in attendence for! Unfortunitely, family considerations will keep us from making the trip to the Ralph on Saturday. GO BEAVERS!
  22. Every year, the Sioux are down a little bit and the the Beaver Series comes up. You guys always seem to get healthy with this series and go on to the NCAA tournament. So watch out for the Sioux after this weekend!!! OH, and GO BEAVERS!!!
  23. GO ORLANDO!!!!!! GO BEAVS!!!!
  24. All streaks have to end sometime and today would be a great time for that to happen! Here is to a great series this weekend!
