  1. ....as well as the fact that CC has had blue chip talent every bit as good as anyone in the country, I didn't take their remarks as sour grapes.

The CC team that has gone 36-35-7 the past two years (2-13-3 currently) and were bounced in two games at home by Michigan Tech last year has blue chip talent every bit as good as anyone in the country?

This so called "sanctity of the handshake line" seems to be made up by fans. As a player, it was never instilled in me that the handshake was something sacred. It is just what you did after the game.

The fans pulled the 'A' off Blood's jersey?

  2. LOL. I've seen ONE Gopher game on TV this year and it was on a Sunday. And I live in suburban Minneapolis. Their games get shoved on an alternate channel normal people with cable don't get most of the time, including the game tonight.

Well played. Unfortunately, anyone with cable in the metro area (and the vast majority of the state) has Fox Sports North Plus which you know of course. You think the TWolves and Wild would agree to have some of their games aired on a channel no one gets?

    Solid effort though.

  3. I always chuckle when people think "alums" have any kind of power to pick or fire coaches. Like on this site (some) alums think they should pick the new nickname for the Sioux! The only thing alums can do is say they are an alum...

Alums have the same power non-alums have...none.

What's the name of the arena?

  4. Hey I firmly believe in having a respect for a person in changing the way they see something. Glad to hear it coach!

Never the less, I sure am glad he is not the my teams coach. :silly:

He said the series needed a break (four year hiatus - check), the teams will continue to play (one home and home series scheduled - check) and didn't need to be played every year (nothing scheduled past this home and home when Lucia will likely be gone - check), yet he changed the way he sees something?

  5. I'm just saying in that game she was not impressive. I am sure she is a hell of a player but Bozek was clearly the best player on the ice that day other than the Twins of course.

If you are referring to the game in grand forks she sat out Friday due to injury and played on Saturday...still had three points.

Then in Minneapolis had six goals and four assists in the two games.

The highest assist total in the nation since 2005 is not due to her teammates putting in rebounds.

  6. I just couldn't let people come on here and insist that the U of M cared so much about other D-I programs in the state when they never have in the past.

And the U of M never bent over backwards to schedule these schools before they joined the WCHA. So, please explain these "big relationships" because I just don't see them.

In 2000, Don Lucia and the Gophers traveled to Bemidji to play one game against the Beavers in their own rink....repeat...the Gophers traveled to Bemidji to play in a rink that held 2,300 people. At the time with BSU just out of D2, that would be like the Yankees playing a game in Toledo against the Mudhens.

Bob Peters, Bemidji's legendary coach in the Pioneer Press: "We feel very fortunate to have the Gophers step in to help us with our transition to Division I. Don Lucia has picked up where John Mariucci left off in promoting college hockey in the state. From a fan-interest standpoint, it's colossal that these teams are playing us. Our season tickets and individual-game ticket sales have surpassed last season. And playing these teams has had a profound effect on our recruiting. We're on schedule to grow and develop Division I hockey in Bemidji."

Later in the 2000-01 season, Bemidji played at Mariucci Arena. Bemidji played two more games at Mariucci the following season and another series in 2003-04.

The U played St. Cloud State in Eveleth the first year the Huskies were a Division I independent. Minnesota played Mankato four times during its three year Division I independent phase. Don Lucia's CC team played a home and home with Mankato during the same period.

  7. Any specific reason 2008 was picked? Or just convenient for the numbers?

In those five years, the referees from those games are still active in the WCHA and thus, could be at Mariucci Arena this weekend. If you go back six years, you have Jon Campion who has been retired since 2011.

  8. Traditionally in Minnesota the Gophers have twice as many power play chances as the Sioux.

If by tradition you mean the Sioux holding a 34-30 edge in power play opportunities since 2008 at Mariucci Arena, then yes, twice as many.

    UND: 1-34

    UM: 3-30

  9. Yeah, and it's not like the Gofers to ever travel for a non-conference series either...so don't think they will be wanting to drive up to GF to face the Sioux anytime soon after the last year of the 'real' WCHA...

    Nov. 23-24, 2012 - Minnesota @ Vermont

    Nov. 25-26, 2011 - Minnesota @ Michigan State

Prior to that the Gophers have played non-conference road games at Bemidji State, New Hampshire, Boston U, Maine, Nebraska Omaha, a tourney in Alaska, plus Michigan/Michigan State every other year.

    But yeah, other than that.....

  10. Remember when Gopher fans would sarcastically call Zach, "God"?

It looks like the shoe is on the other foot, now. We've got to give them some crap for spending $100 million on "God" and putting all their faith in him...

It will always be Vanek 1 (plus WCHA Rookie of the Year/Frozen Four MOP), Parise 0 so no Gopher fan will have a problem cheering for Zach in a Wild uniform.

Vanek: 7g, 4a, 11 points and 6-1 in NCAA Tourney

Parise: 1g, 1a, 3 points and 1-2 in NCAA Tourney

P.S. Giving another free agent the exact same contract means they are not putting all their faith in one player.

  11. I agree and I've heard the entire team was there, something tells me that isn't true. I've heard some are party animals and some aren't. Thier in college and their boys I understand that, but the timing was again almost insulting.

15 teams lost in the NCAA Tournament. I would bet anything and everything that members of each of those 15 teams were drunk off their a** by the following day or one hour after their flights landed. From captains' practice in September and the next six plus months they've lived hockey. In a week or two, they'll be back in the weight room preparing for 08-09 but God forbid they decide to drink the day after the season ends.

I know you feel they "owe" you something, Mikey...with all the time and energy you've devoted to watching college kids play a game so I'm sorry they couldn't live up to your standards.

  12. Regardless of the score, I guarantee you that the Sioux will have twice as many penalties as the Gophs over the series. It never fails in Mpls that the Sioux are fighting bullsh*t calls like three straight against them in 3rd periods of close games. Happens every time. The one time that a guy tried to call a fair game (which was even in Grand Forks) he was suspended (Kleven).

A Sioux fan complaining about officiating??? What?? Oh wait, it's 15 below in Grand Forks, hell has officially frozen over.

  13. True, the Gophers do not get an automatic bid, however WCHA officials do their best to ensure they make it to the final five.

Did the WCHA officials hold Anchorage to 12 shots on goal in the third game last year? Oh well, you wouldn't be a Sioux fan if there weren't referee conspiracies involved.

  14. Are you implying that Doug says things derogatory about Sioux hockey because he's mad that he never won an NCAA title? That's quite a leap to be making.

Actually North Dakota only won two of the "big ones" during Woog's tenure. He saves his intense envy for three-time champs Lake Superior State. Don't get him started!! He'd never play bubble hockey with Jeff Jackson.

  15. Of course the U's "principled" stance on Indian names doesn't apply when a named-Sioux tribe gives it $10M from gambling for its new stadium complex.:lol:

    Strib

How are they related? The University stands up for the Sioux tribes in not scheduling teams using them as cartoon mascots while at the same time forming a partnership with the Sioux tribes for $5 million in endowed scholarships. Sounds like the U is standing up for the Sioux tribes in both regards.
