  1. New poll is out:
  2. To the extent that was true--and I have no idea whether or not it was--I suspect it stopped being the case in 2001. Since the completion of REA and the corresponding increase in season tickets available, funds raised by the FSC have been well in excess of $1 million per year. Probably much closer to $1.5 million per year.
  3. I agree. My numbers comment was directed as much to her assists as anything. I'm not sure there's anybody else on her team who can score, and hence, she probably won't have much in the way of assists even though she is a good passer. I do think she'll be more of an offensive threat than was Tonia Jones, although I agree that it won't be her role to shoot very often.
  4. Impressive numbers. Hopefully she can step right in and contribute immediately next year. As for the other UND recruits, I believe Seay is averaging 21.5 ppg through two games. I'm not sure on Bergan, but she's playing on a very weak team this year so her numbers may be down from what they were last year.
  5. Thanks. I could be wrong, but I think the Fighting Sioux Club raised $1.75 million or so last year. Anybody else recall the number? EDIT: I guess I can't find anything other than the fiscal year 2004 number, which was apparently about $1.5 million. I don't know what the fiscal year 2005 number was.
  6. I'm just curious, how much did Team Makers raise last year?
  7. Another opposing coach with a very high opinion of the UND women: (from the Duluth paper).
  8. On Friday afternoon at the Alerus, Crookston plays GF Central. It should be an interesting matchup of Wahlin vs. UND recruit Seay.

  10. Of all the UND coaches, Roebuck would seem to have the most to gain by staying dII. With the talent he's assembled, he's looking at potentially multiple national championships over the next few years if UND doesn't move to dI. Not that UND wouldn't be competitive as a dI mid-major, but by the time we'd become tournament eligible, he'd be past retirement age. Even though it's not considered very "p.c." to hire a man to coach a women's basketball team in this day and age, I suspect his .850 winning % would have made it easy to have gotten a good dI job if that had been his goal.
  11. I certainly don't pretend to know what he's thinking, but I've noticed a lot--and perhaps even an inordinate amount--of "next year" talk in his radio interviews. He definitely talks like somebody who fully expects to be back next year.
  12. Unfortunately, Buning is going to have some decisions to make in that regard. On the men's side, basketball and track/cross country are not doing well at all. Certainly the lack of an adequate indoor track greatly hurts track, but it still needs to do better than it has been in recent years. On the women's side, volleyball and softball seem to be under-achieving, particularly in volleyball which has many of the same advantages UND basketball has in terms of funding and facilities.

I was thinking the same thing, but between the fact that Lennon and the rest of the staff are still here, that Tibesar left prior to most, and perhaps all on-campus visits, and that there are so many other Wisconsin kids on the team right now who can vouch for what kind of a program it is once they're on campus for a vist, we should be fine.
  14. Clearly UND would have been better this year had Koenig and Lindahl been 100%. But it's still quite disturbing that two injuries have turned us into a team that would struggle to beat anybody aside from perhaps Trinity Bible College. My question is this: how does the state of the basketball program right now compare to: 1. The end of the Gunther era in the mid-to-late 80's? 2. The hockey program at the end of the Gino era? 3. The football program at the end of the Behrns era? My personal opinion is that things are worse right now than in any of the above situations. Injuries are a part of sports and you have to roll with the punches. I don't believe injuries even begin to explain or excuse the depths we've sunk to. Going back 10-20 years, who would have fathomed it would be possible we could lose to Mayville, Moorhead and Bemidji, and get pushed to the limit at home by Mary and Valley City, all in one season?

Some of this info is a little old, but here's some information on a few Wisconsin kids UND has shown interest in: link 1; link2.
  16. I only listened to bits and pieces of the game, but from what I could gather after the fact, he was injured. I have no idea as to what extent. Notwithstanding the six wins, this is shaping up to be an historically bad season. Just once since 1960 has a UND team failed to reach at least 10 wins, and that was Glas's first year. I'd be very surprised if this team can win as many as four more games the way things are looking right now.
  17. Grand Valley was very, very lucky. I can't even imagine how bad that NW Missouri receiver must feel right now...
  18. Things just keep getting worse and worse...UND gets hammered by Bemidji 87-63.
  19. Did anybody else catch the end of the I-AA semi-final game between Texas State and Northern Iowa last night? With the score tied at 37, Texas State got the ball at its own 25 with 1:17 to go, with the wind, playing at home, and with all three timeouts remaining. Their offense had obviously done quite well to that point, having scored 37 points. Instead of trying to get into field goal range for the potential game-winning points, their coach elected to take a knee three times and play for overtime. The home crowd and many of the Texas State players were apparently in disbelief that he wouldn't even try to go for the win under those circumstances. Of course, Northern Iowa then went on to win in overtime. This was one of the strangest coaching decisions I've ever seen.
  20. According to this week's fightingsioux.com basketball release, Rich needs five more wins to break Gunther's record. Will he do it? I'm thinking that winning the home game vs. Bemidji will be imperative, because after that the only really good chances for wins may be Minot State, Upper Iowa and the home game vs. Augie.
  21. I've made this point before, but let's not overlook the fact that the exact same thing happened between USD and SDSU the past two years. To the best of my knowledge, USD did not schedule SDSU at all, or at least not in the highest-profile sports of football and men's and women's basketball, following SDSU's move to dI/I-AA. Whether SDSU fans are as bitter about it as tony is towards UND, I don't know. And while the UNO-UNC rivalry doesn't compare to UND-NDSU or USD-SDSU, UNO and UNC stopped playing each other following UNC's dII/NCC departure, as well.
  22. I think the 1997-98 team was the best. That was Tiffany Pudenz's senior year, plus I believe Mandy Arndtson was injured early in the 1998-99 season so she really didn't play that year, but she was very good her freshman year (97-98). The nucleus of Crouse, Jaime Pudenz, Richards and Winger was the same both years, but when you add Tiffany and Arndtson into the mix, that's what I think sets the 97-98 team apart. Both teams were certainly very good, though.

If Tim wants to transfer to play for his father, that's certainly his prerogative, but as far as Rod is concerned, it seems a little unseemly that he would publicly state that if hired, he and Tim would likely be a package deal.
  24. It's interesting that UND is easily leading the NCC in home attendance for women's basketball, but is just 4th in men's. You have to wonder if we'd be even lower in men's attendance but for the fact that there have been several double-headers.
  25. The 1998-99 national championship team started 18-0.
