I'm glad Belmore played well and everything, but I find it very disappointing that Freund didn't get to take even one snap today despite a 35-0 lead early in the second quarter. With Manke banged-up, we're basically one big hit on Belmore away from HAVING to play Freund. I don't see us blowing out SCSU next week on the road, and then it's USD (and hopefully the playoffs), so I can't see Freund having a chance to play at all this year barring the aforementioned worst-case scenario. I just hope this doesn't come back to haunt us next year when Freund will probably be counted on to run the offense with no game experience to speak of.

I think Wayne Nelson's prediction is a good one--UND over UMD 26-13. With Belmore playing, it seems like the Sioux always score somewhere around 20 points, give or take about six.

I forgot about/neglected to read Woden's post in the other thread, and I don't mean to question his information. I probably overstated things by using the words "almost positive", but I was told by a good source about six months ago that part of the Bronson property had been earmarked for a football stadium, although it was far from guaranteed that it would ever actually happen regardless of location. My big concern with an outdoor stadium is how it affects attendance once temps dip into the 40's and lower. Attendance tended to be pretty bad at Memorial later in the season, at least when compared to the past five years.

If/when a new stadium is built, I'm almost positive it would be somewhere on the Bronson property. Exactly where, I don't know.

I agree. I'm a long-time season ticketholder, but it was extremely difficult to make myself stay for the men's games last year, and I have to admit that I didn't stay for many of them. It was just too frustrating, and there didn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. Now, I fully expect to go to all the games. I'm not expecting a repeat of the 1989-90 or 1990-91 seasons, but I do expect to see a better and more exciting product on the floor.

I have to agree that the offense tends to be frustrating to watch when Reed isn't in there. One thing to watch for is whether Belmore can get the ball to Dressler. Weston's stats with Manke playing are incredible; when Belmore plays the numbers go way, way down. You have to get the ball to your playmaker.

Lennon didn't sound very optimistic on the coaches' show tonight that Manke will play on Saturday.

On the bright side, I look for UND to get into Nebraska and Colorado pretty heavily now. UNC's program is a mess right now, which can only help UND's cause in recruiting there. Nebraska produces a fair number of very good players, and I would hope that in time, UND could do pretty well there. NDSU already recruits some in Nebraska, and UNO could really end up being hurt if the North Dakota schools start poaching some players they historically would have gotten. UNO typically doesn't have to venture more than a couple of hours from Omaha to recruit, and obviously they've had a lot of very good players over the past decade who clearly were I-AA caliber or better in terms of talent. And like I say every year, UND needs to get into Canada more heavily. In the short term, UND's recruiting in ND, MN and perhaps WI will be more difficult than it was prior to last season, but the slack can be picked up by recruiting more in other areas.

It's 20 calendar days, not including the day the defendant was actually served with the summons and complaint.

I don't think it's quite as extreme as it was last year, or as MSU-Mankato is doing this year. Looking at the stats, it appears UMD passes about two-thirds of the time.
-
UMD's quarterback is banged up and can't move well, their offensive line is young and struggling, and they still don't have a running game. If the Sioux don't win this game comfortably, I will be very disappointed.

This is an excerpt from a Wayne Nelson article in Saturday's Herald:

I've always found it incredible that a town of 16,000 could have two pretty good class A (caliber) high school sports programs. I'm not accusing anybody of anything, because I have no idea, but are the vast majority of Trinity students who compete in athletics actually from Dickinson?

Question: what was/would have been the bigger upset--SDSU over Cal-Poly or NDSU over Minnesota? I actually think it's the former. I was not at all surprised that NDSU out-played the Gophers, but I was shocked that SDSU knocked off Cal-Poly on the road.

"Neutral Site Solution" to NCAA Nickname Ban?
UND92,96 replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Football
A quick read of the NCAA's edicts indicates that schools in UND's situation are barred from "hosting" NCAA post season championships/playoffs. My guess is that regardless of where the game is actually played, the NCAA will say that UND can't "host", whether the game would be in Grand Forks, Fargo, Minneapolis, etc., and regardless of whether any Sioux names or logos appear in the venue. The more interesting question to me is what will happen if UND were to finish 9-1, which clearly would warrant a relatively high seed. Would they simply give UND the lowest seed (6)? Would they give UND the seed they actually earned, but allow the lower seed to host, which, depending on UND's actual seed, could mean that a 5 or 6 seed got to play at home, but a 3 or 4 seed did not? What about the bye that the top two seeds get? If UND were simply to be given a 6 seed, not only would they not get to host, but they would also then be required to play an extra game. There could be all kinds of issues that will arise if UND actually wins out. -
This Herald article from Sunday's paper also indicated that Manke felt okay after the game.

Here's a link talking about that Epping team, and the famous game against Hillsboro. link. It was featured on a prairie public tv special from a few years ago about the history of the class B tournament in North Dakota. It was a really good show, and is still shown once in awhile.

I believe Gowan from Central is over 1000 now. He had two 200-plus yard games, plus over 100 several other times (including West Fargo and North).
-
That's still a possibility, but if last week's results are any indication, the odds have gone down from what they would have been a couple of weeks ago. USD seemed to be all defense, no offense until last week (did I really just type that? ), but the offense definitely played much better at Western Washington. Whether that's a trend or a mirage will be interesting to see.

Yes, that halfback pass call really hurt. When you have a playmaking quarterback like Reed Manke, you absolutely have to have the ball in his hands in a crucial situation. I thought overall it was a pretty good day calling plays for Mussman, but that call was very strange.

What I found so curious about the decision to take the field goal on 4th and goal from the 1 is why you go for the touchdown in this situation at UNI, but not at UNO? If ever there was a team against which you would think Lennon would want to be uber-aggressive and go against the grain, it's UNO.
-
That's good news. It's probably good that UND doesn't have another game until the 28th.
-
I know this goes against all conventional coaching wisdom, but in this situation wouldn't it almost be better to let them score, and then at least you could theoretically score a td and 2-point conversion to tie it up in the last minute and a half? As it is, there's basically no chance the more time you let them run off...
