  1. Bo and Eaves are two different players. Ottawa has plenty of guys who can find the back of the net. Eaves is a guy who brings energy and likes the corners and the side boards, so he fits in well with what the Senators' scoring guys want and need right now. Do you remember the gold medal WJC team from a couple of years ago? I don't recall Eaves scoring many points, but he was always attacking the loose pucks and getting them to people like ZPar, Sullivan and Fritsche who took it from there. He accepted his role and it worked out well for the team. That's what Ottawa needs at this point and Eaves fits that role better than Bo. Eaves also doesn't get a lot of minutes in games when the Sens roster is full.

  2. Here's where Team SS.com stands as of now:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac and UND grad relative

    mksioux and friend

    BigChief

    Stuckinfargo

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    kateskate

    and maybe:

WildSioux and his friend who played last year

    Wantagh

If all of the above make it, that gives us 12 position players, or the equivalent of 2 2/3 forward lines and 2 lines of D. From the (few) comments I've seen, it sounds like that's about where we want to be and don't really need any additional players. Again, this assumes all of the above make it to the game. Please chime in if you disagree or know of someone else who wants to play.

bertibm, thanks for lining all of this up and the SS.com check is in the mail.

  3. Alas, my pro contract has fallen through. Sorry, I've had a rough couple of months between my grandmother's funeral, my mom's heart attack, and my deciding to quit my job and move out of Mormanville.

I booked my flight late last week for the Final Five and remembered about the SS.com/POI.com game, apparently a little too late. Thanks for taking over diggin! My flight doesn't leave Minneapolis until 9:30pm on Sunday, so I'll be coming to watch as always. Let me know if you need help getting a hold of anyone. I've saved email addresses from everyone who has played the last 3 years.

Yikes! Hope your mom is okay.

Glad to hear from you and glad to hear that you'll be at the game. If you have everyone's email address and want to either send them an email about the game or send the email list to to me at dlveer@yahoo.com, that would be great. Some of the guys have said they want to keep the roster manageable this year, but you never know what you're going to get until game time.

  4. Well, we're down to 3 weeks before game time so I guess it's time to get serious about the final makeup of the SS.com team. Over 2400 "views" of this thread, so it would seem that anyone interested in playing would have chimed in by now. If you haven't, please do so this week.

We have 7 position players and stuckingfargo lined up. That's only 2 players on the bench for a 50-60 minute game. Wildsioux and his buddy may be able to play and mksioux was going to try to line up a friend to play. If anyone planning to play has a friend or two that they think might be interested in playing, please see what they're up to and let's try and get a final roster of a dozen players or so.

bertibm, if you have the ice lined up, let me know how much I owe you and where to send the $.

  5. I've only seen 3 games this year so my view is more limited than those who see the Sioux play regularly. I've made a point of watching Lee play. I thought he played a more physical game last Saturday in terms of taking the body and his play along the boards than in the earlier games I saw at Duluth and St. Cloud. He seemed much more confident when the puck was on his stick in the earlier games, though.

There's been a lot of talk from the Sioux coaches and players about learning to play defense first, so maybe Lee has been asked to learn and do some things he didn't necessarily have to worry about at Moorhead. We all agree he's going to be an outstanding d-man and some extra beef in the off-season will go a long way toward giving him some much needed juice during the second half of next year.

  6. Just trying to keep this topic on the first page. So far we have:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac

    mksioux

    BigChief

    Stuckinfargo

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    kateskate

    and maybe:

WildSioux and his friend who played last year

The last couple of years we scrambled to get players lined up and then had plenty come game time. If you think you might be able to play but just aren't sure yet, or want to make sure the Sioux make the Final Five Tournament before committing to driving to the Twin Cities for the weekend, just post a message saying you're a "maybe." Pretty soon, we'll have to start looking elsewhere for players if it looks like only the above 8-10 players are in. It would be nice to have 12-15 players and let everyone talk about possible lines and positions this year so SS.com can develop some flow and continuity and take it to POI. Last year was close until the end.

  7. This message is for the guys who have either already said they want to play this game or are reasonably certain they will eventually throw their hats in to play. There's a Twin Cities high school player who would like to play but is concerned about the fact that she's an 18 year old female. kateskate has played for 10 years and attended Sioux summer hockey camp the last four years. She asked me to check with y'all to see what you think. If you don't want to post your message on the board, please email me at dlveer@yahoo.com.

  8. I have not got the ice yet. I will wait until you guys get at least 8 skaters.

    So far, we have:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac

    mksioux

    BigChief

    Stuckinfargo

    MinnesotaNorthStar

I'm confident there will be plenty of SS.com players available come 3/19, but if your name isn't listed above and you want in, please post your interest so bertibm can secure the ice. I'm sure it won't come to this, but if necessary, I'll play again this year and that would give us 8.

  9. With stuckinfargo between the pipes, SS.com will always have a chance. :p

    So far, we have:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac

    mksioux

    BigChief

    Stuckinfargo

    ..and some chatter from Cratter

Cratter, if you and some of your intramural buddies will be in town for the Final Five, bring your gear and play. It's a great time. A couple of years ago, we finished the game in time for both teams to go grab a bite to eat in Plymouth and we all watched the NCAA tournament selection show on ESPN.

If anyone knows how to get in touch with these guys, please find out if they're in again this year:

    jk

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    WildSioux

    Bacardio

    Wantagh (and friend)

Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer (and friend)

    Squirtcoach's son (and friend)

If anyone has some info you don't want to post on this board, just email me at dlveer@yahoo.com

    Thanks!

  10. How is ur team looking? Is this game going to happen?

Sioux fans, like the Sioux themselves (I hope), tend to wait in the wings until March. Last year things were pretty quiet up until 2-3 weeks before gametime and then we ended up with 16 or 17 guys. Go ahead and book the ice. I'm good for SS.com's half. You have my contact info.

The only problem I could possibly see is if the Sioux (shudder) don't make the trip to the Xcel. If that happens, there are enough Sioux fans in the Twin Cities, we'll come up with something. This game is too much fun to miss a year for any reason.

Anyone know how to get in touch with Stuckinfargo?

  11. My wife is a BADger alum so there's been a lot of noise in our house this year. I took note a while back that Wisconsin was winning an awful lot of one-goal games. I looked up their schedule and going into this weekend, they had won 7 such games and lost only 1. Not to take anything away from Wisconsin this year, but a bad bounce here and some puck luck lost there and all of a sudden the big Red bus doesn't look so shiny.

  12. It looks like graduation claimed Forecheck, or maybe she was lured into the pros early by a large contract. Anyway, I agreed to head up the Sioux end of this annual event, which I guess means paying bertibm for our half of the ice time and lining up players. I live in the Twin Cities and have already traded some emails with bertibm. I'll let everyone know the details as they arrive.

Two years ago, I believe the game was at 10:30. Last year it was a 12:15 game. With many SS.com players traveling after the game, please post your preference as to what time you would like to start. Obviously, bertibm is at the mercy of the availability of ice time, but those who have to spend several hours traveling after the game should chime in if you have a preference.

It's still early, but so far we have four players eager for that first SS.com win. There will be a 30" traveling trophy awarded to the winner. It's nothing fancy and something of a work in progress. Just something to make the team picture more interesting. Here's a list of additional players/possible players from last year:

    Goalie:

    Stuckinfargo

    Skaters:

    Wantagh

    BigChief

    jk

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    WildSioux

    Bacardio

    Wantagh

    Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer

    Squirtcoach's son

Oh, one last thing. If you picture the worst player on last year's team, I can say for certain that he won't be back this year. The reason I'm certain is that it's me. I'm too old and slow and frankly not good enough to play at this level. You're welcome, Stuckinfargo.

Any questions, email me at dlveer@yahoo.com

  13. Local reports out of Ottawa have Bochenski back on the ice for the two games against Toronto later this month or possibly as early as this Saturday's game in Edmonton. It would obviously be nice if he was able to play at the Ex next Monday.

  14. Here's the year-end report on Brandon Bochenski as viewed by the guy who writes Binghampton Senators game reviews on the unofficial Ottawa Senators message board:

Brandon Bochenski, A-. His was a phenomenal rookie season in its consistency. It

  15. One player who would like to see Smaby move on has got to be Danny Irmen. I watched last night's game on tape a couple of times and among many other positive things, I noticed:

    1) Irmen picking himself up off the ice a number of times, and

    2) Smaby was often the one who sent him sprawling

  16. The Gophers are the home team, they will play in MN next week. Their ranking doesn't matter.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I believe it matters if you're a Gopher fan. If the Gophers finish #4, they'll be a 1 seed. If they finish #5, then the winner of the Denver - CC game tonight will likely be the #1 seed at Mariucci.

  17. Report was he doesn't have anything but a tingly feeling in hands and feet. He did move his hand slightly while still on the ice.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was sitting with my family on the end where Bina went down. He was moving his legs after it first happened and then I wonder if one of the trainers maybe told him to stay still. At least I hope that's why he became still. Try explaining to your 7-year old what happened when your blood pressure is thru the roof and all you see is a 2:00 minor penalty on the board. We all saw what Adams and DU are about, now let's wait and see how well the league conducts itself.

  18. cool that they both are playing well.

heres the link from this site that has already been started on this topic.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It occurred to me that I should check out pg 2 of the forum after I had already clicked the send button. I appreciate that nobody torched my rear for the duplicate post. I'm pretty much a one-a-week lurker and don't know why I even posted this. It just seemed like all of the threads were so negative that something positive was in order and I was already a bit late in catching the start of The Apprentice.

Guess I better scan back thru the threads before posting the news that Coach Blais is considering leaving the Sioux.
