  1. Classy post, Bet3go. I'll always have a warm and vivid memory of the Badger Blueline Club presenting Dean Blais with a check for $10,000 at The Dane before the start of the first game UND played their after the '97 flood. I don't know how many people make up the Badger Blueline Club, but some must have dug a little deep to come up with a $10,000 donation for the relief of residents of GF/EGF. It was an amazing gesture of good will.

  2. I lived in Milwaukee for 11+ years and it's a wonderful town, although it's home to some world-class panhandlers who I'm sure are gearing up for an influx of generous out-of-towners. Never hurts to throw a buck or two their way but don't believe any tales of woe where they might ask for anything more. They have an alternative high school just off of downtown and some of the students and other ne'er do wells have been known to cause trouble at downtown bus stops, so keep your heads up on Thursday and Friday. It's generally a safe place, but it never hurts to pay attention.

Some of the best times I had in Milwaukee were spent on a boat on Lake Michigan. It's a bit early in the season, but futher south along the WI/IL border I would say they are catching some coho salmon and a few brownies. Charters can be pricey, but if the fish are biting and you can get enough people, it's not too bad and it's really a blast.

I went to many Blackhawk games and one of the previous posters mentioned the lack of cabs around the arena after the games. The United Center is not in a nice area. Best bet is to park somewhere downtown, take a cab to the arena and then after the game just hop on one of the many buses sitting outside the arena that will take you right back downtown. Make sure you get on a bus going downtown and not somewhere else. Years ago, a buddy and I met Joe Sakic, Mark Recchi (sp?) and drank a few beers with Mats Sundin and a couple other unknown Nordiques after a Hawks game. It's a touristy area and I suspect players from the other teams probably still go there seeing as the bars on Division stay open all night.

Hope everyone has a blast and may your return trips all be safe and filled with championship smiles.

  3. Ok, seriously, great pics. I too would LOVe to know the screen names associated with the players in the pictures.

I'm going to take my best stab at this. I'm looking at SS.com vs. POI 014 on page 2 of Sioux-cia's picture link. Please chime in to correct my mistakes because I guessed at a couple.

    http://www.msnusers.com/Sioux-cia/sscomvsp...hoto&PhotoID=14

FRONT ROW (kneeling left to right)

A-a-a-cheechoo, 15-yr old Gretzky (per Sioux-cia's previous description), kateskate, WildSioux, hrkac's UND grad relative

    BACK ROW

BigChief, Phats, mksioux, stuckinfargo's Sioux fan friend, MinnesotaNorthStar, stuckinfargo, brianvf, hrkac

...and if you look at the far right of the picture, Forecheck is standing behind the glass with a big smile on her face and my Sioux pullover jacket cuz she didn't wear anything warm to VMIA.

  4. I took several pictures of the team with the trophy hoping one will be decent. I'll post them tomorrow, my son took with my camera by accident.

Sioux-cia, any luck with the pics? It was great meeting you and your family on Sunday. You're son played great! Bagged goal # 6 with a one-timer in front of the net if I recall correctly. For those that missed it, she was decked out in her white Sioux uniform with St. Patty's Day beads draped around her neck same as for the Sioux games at the X.

  5. I'm glad the guys from LCHA showed up, they made it a lot of fun and gave needed depth to the guys/gal in green.

I hope someone posts a post-game team picture of SS.com so everyone can see kateskate's pink and green socks. You played very well, kate. I felt like a proud papa watching you out there mixing it up with the boys. Good luck at UND next year and we're all pulling for you to make the Sioux women's team as a walk-on. One last thing, kate, Rory McMahon was only part right when he told you the Gophers are the root of all evil. They have a lot of fans who are pretty decent people and players.

  6. It was a great game, We could not do anything with a Hot Goalie for SS.com

He is the MVP for the team every year.

The trophy is sitting in MVP stuckinfargo's Ford Ranger on its way to Fargo at the time of this post. Outstanding as always, Bryce! Having possession of the trophy means you have to be at next year's game. Alterior motive on my part? Maybe. Well deserved on your part? Without a doubt!

  7. It would be nice to have a different rink, ie one in a better part of town and one with some restaurants near by. Plymouth, St Louis Park, others...

a 60 minute game would be good too, instead of the full 90. I barely made it thru drinking at 5 WCHA games, and then to get up on Sunday and skate for 90 was a lot.

A nicer rink would be nice even if it costs more. With 25-30 guys pitching in, an extra $60-$75 isn't a big deal. VMI is a very cold rink for the fans.

Thanks for organizing this game again this year, bert. The ref was a nice idea and he did a great job. SS.com players all pitched in some $$ for his effort.

  8. Ok! New to this so bear with me!

Does anyone know the dates of next years WCHA tournament. I am definitely going to be there!

It's generally the same time every year, about the third weekend in March. Few things as fun as the Final Five at the X.

  9. Nice looking trophy! We've always talked about getting one, but no one has actually followed through.

It looks nice because of the Sioux puck. I'm guessing it will lose all of it's shine and allure if it's subjected to a Gopher puck.

  10. OK, I'm calling the Hoggsbreath this afternoon and making a pseudo-reservation for 11:00 am Saturday morning. I'm estimating in the neighborhood of 15-20 people. If anyone else has any interest in showing up, please let me know so I can give them an idea of the table space we'll need. Thanks much!

Your suggestion seems to have taken on a life of its own. Excellent work! My in-laws from Sconny canceled their trip into town, so I would like to come if there's room. Thanks.

  11. A flurry of posting activity right before the puck drops. It's post-season, baby!

Just so everyone is clear, the game is at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Memorial Ice Garden in Minneapolis. Puck drops at 11:15 and we have ice until 12:30. Here's the Mapquest:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?addre...ip=55412&zoom=7

Maybe we can all grab a bite to eat after the game before everyone heads for home. It might work best to find someplace off of I-94/694 for those heading back to ND.

    The roster appears set at:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac and UND grad relative

    mksioux

    BigChief

Stuckinfargo (goalie) & Sioux fan friend

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    kateskate

    Sioux-cia's son

    WildSioux

    A-a-a-Cheechoo

    and maybe:

    Wantagh

Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and goalie friend

Wantagh and FCMK, if you know more about your status for Sunday, please let us know either way.

Lastly, here's a link with picture of a traveling trophy that I've been working on here and there the past few weeks. If POI wins (shudder), then the Sioux puck is replaced with one with a picture of a rodent. If SS.com wins the following year, the players get to remove the rodent puck and dignify the trophy with a Sioux puck. Not much of a trophy, but it may dress up the team picture a bit.

    SS.com vs POI Trophy

Should be a great weekend starting with a Sioux win over Bucky on Friday. Here's praying for safe travel everyone driving and flying in.

  12. How many players do we have for sure? How many players does GPL have?

So far SS.com has 12 position players and stuckinfargo. FCMK still hopes to make it, but he's not sure at this point. Wantagh hopes to be there as well. Unless someone comes in under the radar, we should have a max of 15 position players. A full bench, but not as many as last year.

  13. So, how many do we have??? I think that 13 or 14 is perfect. 3 lines and 4 or 5 def.

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac and UND grad relative

    mksioux

    BigChief

Stuckinfargo (goalie) & Sioux fan friend

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    kateskate

    Sioux-cia's son

WildSioux and his friend who played last year

    and maybe:

    Wantagh

Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and friend (goalie?)

If my math is correct, that's 12 position players and one goalie that are in and possibly 2 more position players. I believe FCMK's buddy is a goalie. Correct me if I'm wrong FCMK.

  14. Diggin42

So what is your roster as of right now?

Here's what I see thus far:

    747Guy

    brianvf

    hrkac and UND grad relative

    mksioux

    BigChief

    Stuckinfargo (goalie)

    MinnesotaNorthStar

    kateskate

    Sioux-cia's son

    and maybe:

WildSioux and his friend who played last year

    Wantagh

Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer and friend

  15. Speaking for myself only, I don't necessarily care who plays, but there were definitely too many people last year. We couldn't all fit in the bench.

Appreciate the comments, mksioux. I guess the appropriate question for SS.com might be what is the ideal number? 13 + stuckinfargo gives you the equivalent of 3 full forward lines and 2 lines of D. That's a good chunk of ice time for a 60+ minute game. Aside from physical space on the bench, at what point does it get to be too many players for SS.com players to get sufficient ice time and thus enjoy themselves and be able to stay in the flow of the game?

Sioux-cia's son would give SS.com 10-13 position players plus stuckinfargo. Add Fire Chartreuse Musky Killer (please, please, please) and you're up to as much as 14. Haven't heard from anyone else who expressed an interest, at least not yet.

  16. Thanks for the condolences.

Diggin, I emailed you some email addresses of former players that I thought you may not have. I see Chartreuse has posted on this thread. I thought he was one player you should contact, seeing as how he is responsible for 75% of SS.com goals.

As far as limiting the numbers, I think that's ridiculous. A.) Inevitably someone is not going to show up, B.) the SS.com team is obviously the underdog . . . they are lucky if they've met their linemates before, and C.) this is supposed to be for fun. But that's my opinion, I'm not playing. No offense bertibm, but I think you need to lighten up. Like squirt coach said, there were 2 high school kids on the team last year, not "a bunch," and they played just fine. And what do you know, they're hockey fans! Ease up. It's a friendly game, even if it's between two teams of people who hate each other by nature.

It's truly great to have Forecheck back in the mix. Your name fits you well. Looking forward to seeing you again at this year's game.

This team belongs to those who are going to play in it, of which I'm not one. I hope I haven't created the impression that I'm trying to limit the number of SS.com players or dictate what the team should or shouldn't do. I have no say in the matter either way. I was simply parrotting earlier comments from SS.com players about limiting the number of players for the purpose of generating some flow to the SS.com game.

I agree with forecheck that the game is meant for fun, and I personally had a blast playing the last couple of years. I think it's going to be great to have kateskate on the ice wearing Sioux green. She was s little hesitant to jump in and I didn't want to prod her either way. It was nice to see the SS.com comments about how great it will be to see her score a hattie. I remember the HS guys being talked about from last year. I don't recall them speaking to the rest of us much, but I also don't recall them only being on the ice for themselves and not involving other SS.com players. If I was on the ice with them, it may have only seemed like they weren't involving me because they whizzed by me so fast.

If anyone planning to play has an opinion either way about the number of SS.com players, please chime in and lets get it out for discussion among those from the SS.com ranks. If no one has a opinion either way, then I guess we just leave it wide open and those in the locker room can decide before the game whether you want to try and set up lines or just line up on the bench and jump on the ice when it's your turn.
