If you're talking about Meloni, he is a Boston crackpot, and very bias against UND. He also put Leonard ahead of Kawaguchi because he said goals are important .... but vote the guy with like 6 goals number 1.
Guch had more points than both, and more goals than Perunovich. Not going to argue with him picking Perunovich to be his number 1, but he trips over his own logic trying to support his ballot. I understand there are intangibles that don't show up on a stat line, but there is also regional bias that isn't explained by publishing your ballot.
I have no problem with Perunovich winning the Hobey, but I agree that this guy's justification for voting for Perunovich is lame. There is also some east coast bias in voting by Meloni having John Leonard of UMass 3rd on his ballot. Meloni is a UMass grad.
What is worse is how Swayman made the Hobey Hat Trick over Dryden McKay of MSUM. McKay's numbers were better than Swayman's by a long shot, and better than Ryan Miller's when he won the Hobey. The argument that he plays in a weaker conference just doesn't cut it for me because MSUM beat and tied UND and swept UMD in Duluth. Plus, the WCHA is no weaker than the ECAC.

I don't know if it'd be such a bad thing for Miller, Moore, Kleven, and Frisch to each play 20-25 games and rotate on the 3rd pair. Injuries are inevitable. Kiersted and Bast will be seniors, JBD most assuredly will leave after next year (if not this year, fingers crossed).
Going into 21-22 season, you'd have:
Sanderson (So.) - Miller (So.)
Kleven (So.) - Frisch (Jr.)
Moore (So.) - Morrow (Fr.)
Extras: L. Bast (Fr.), TBD (probably a C. Johnson/Rieger type replacement)
That is a lot of youth in the lineup even with Miller and Moore coming next year. If they both defer til the fall of 2021, UND will probably have to ice 3 rookie dman every night in 2021.
I would really like to see Miller come in, and possibly Moore, but not at the expense of JBD. IMHO, JBD is/was the best defenseman in the NCHC, including Perunovich. Perunovich is a difference maker with his vision and offensive abilities, but JBD is no slouch offensively and he's WAY better defensively than Perunovich. JBD is special. I have followed UND hockey for many years, and only James Patrick and Travis Roche would qualify as defensemen as good or possibly better.

Frisch is fully aware of the stakes at hand. He almost deferred and backed out/ left UND prior to coming to UND.
He had a great year and exceeded expectations, no question. However, if Miller comes in and he's the real deal. Play your best players. I think EF will understand. He's a team player and knows he's a 4-year college guy and with the correct attitude and work ethic can develop into a real nice player that "could"play professionally somewhere when it is all said and done.
Also have to take into context, freshie d-man take awhile to adapt to the college game. Kleven or other freshie D could see some healthy scratch games right away. Sanderson, not so much...
Ethan Frisch will play even if Miller, Moore, Sanderson and Kleven come in and they are all as good as advertised. He's exactly the type of player the UND coaches love. He's a good skater, is smart with the puck, and he's a very good character guy. When he gets stronger, he is going to be very good. I see him as a Colton Poolman type player.

Oh, dman will be Mitchell (although Moore has already been drafted....so). Not sure on the forward. Bowen? Big kid but had an off draft year. Kunz?
Do you mean Miller?

I actually like having a couple of highly skilled waterbugs out there.
I agree. Johnny Gaudreau is listed as 5'9" 150 lbs, and he has done pretty well in the NHL.

165 pounds. He needs to put some weight on.
David Hoogsteen, Ryan Duncan and Jeff Panzer were all smaller and seemed to do fine. Jason Blake wasn't a lot bigger when he played at UND.

Funny- that comparison crossed my mind, but I was so young when Patrick was at UND, I didn’t have a first hand recollection of his play. Sounds like my speculation would’ve been accurate.
James Patrick is a good comparison. He was very poised like JBD. Travis Roche also comes to mind.

I get these awards are mostly statistically driven but tell me another player in the league, at any position, that has played better night in and night out than JBD? He's been a rock star.
I completely agree. In my mind, he's the best defenseman in the NCHC. However, since the all-conference teams are stat driven, I expect Ahcan, Perunovich and Ian Mitchell to get selected in front of him. Ahcan and Mitchell are not in JBD's stratosphere defensively, and Perunovich is not as good defensively either. I wouldn't even be surprised if Kiestad and Colton Poolman are selected ahead of him, but he is hands down the best Dman on UND.

Says you? Your logic is completely lacking but I’m not going to argue with someone who argues just for the sake of argument and doesn’t have the expertise to even support his arguments. Why don’t you ask some hockey officials if the calls were correct. Then you might have some credibility.

If he came back at you and said that he had reffed and was a very high level ref, would that mean you're wrong?
He didn’t and hasn’t. I don’t like some keyboard warrior telling everyone they are biased because they don’t agree with his judgment, especially when he doesn’t have the experience or expertise to support his judgment or to criticize others on this board—let alone the referees. The refs made the correct call and that is not biased or looking at it through green colored glasses. It is the call that would be made the overwhelming majority of the time.

Ask them if they think taking out another player without the puck is interference?
You didn’t answer my question. Have you ever reffed hockey and if so, at what level?

You know a slash can land on a stick right?
What makes you the expert? Have you ever reffed hockey? If so, at what level? I asked someone who was at the game who refs ND high school hockey and is a college lineman and he said the goal from last night would be waived off 3/4ths of the time.

Kierstad JBD
Tychonick Frisch
Samuelson Bast
Kleven Rieger
Miller(R), Moore(L), Bast(L) are next in line.
Do you mean Sanderson instead of Samuelson?

What the hell is the NFC Championship game?
Seriously though, come to Detroit. It's going to be crazy with all the WMU fans who are going to be there supporting UND!
I fixed your post. Ironically, I am also a Lions fan so I feel your pain.

Man....you guys are rough on the Mavs. Up until this last week, we had the #8 SOS this year. Playing UAH dropped us to #15....granted, there were other results that caused that as well, but UAH was the big one.
Mankato is a great program and I have tremendous respect for their team this year. Any team that can beat and tie UND and sweep UMD on the road is legit. Mankato should be in the NCHC.

Poehling would have got killed by Weatherby in a fight. Love how he pretends like he really wants to go and the linesman moves him away with ease....
They'll be fine. A game like that will bring the group together. Later in the season Gooch plays.
I agree. It was just a frustrating game because UND outplayed SCSU for 2 periods but couldn't bury chances. Adams played great, just needs to shoot more when he has the chance.

What an asinine article. I love how 3 of the top 4 teams this year are in the same division (UND, UMD and MSUM) along with a strong SCSU team.
