The teams were arranged in order of how they were seeded for the tournament. The Gophers won the conference, so their team picture was on top as the No. 1 seed.
That was a mistake for which the WCHA apologized. And in fairness to the WCHA, the posters were reprinted with UND correctly identified and the team picture at the top of the poster, recognizing the Sioux as the Final Five champs. The WCHA didn't have to do that, but it did. The WCHA also attempted to distribute the reprinted posters at the NCAA West Regionals at the Ralph, but wasn't allowed to do so by the NCAA. The league did all it could to atone for its mistake.
In short, I think you're being overly sensitive and thin-skinned.
Last year was the ONLY year that posters were handed out..........and PCM covered all of your other ridiculous points quite nicely.

I was watching that game. It was Mich vs Gophs in the Frozen Four I believe. If I'm wrong I'm sure one of the Gophs fans will let me know. Can't remember the year.
That was something. I felt sorry for Steve DeBus, the Gophs goalie. He stood on his head that game against a powerhouse Mich team that went on to win the Frozen Four I believe.
1996..........West Region Final, near the end of the 2nd period.
Michigan was behind by a goal at the time, despite being a clearly better team, and outplaying the Goph's. Went on to win by 2 I believe.
And you are correct, they went on to beat Colorado College for the title in the Frozen Four (though it wasn't call the Frozen Four at the time).

Hey, asshole, I said the same thing about the blarney's deal. Let the punishment fit the crime, whatever it may be, then move on. Go check my posts before you tell me what I said.
I agree...let the punishment fit the crime.
First off.....there was NO minor consumption by TJ or JT, or at leaset they were not cited for it, unless the news was not reported factually. Bina is a bit of different deal, but to what extent. we don't know.
But yes, this is A LOT different then the whole Blarney's deal. There were NO law enforement agencies involved with the Blarney thing AT ALL. No one was given a citataion of any nature.
Doesn't mean that those people weren't stupid for being in that position, but LEGALLY nothing happened.
And BTW.......there WERE consequences for those who were involved. They were not made public knowledge, and that's how it should be.
-
It should be handled the same way Lucia handled the Blarney underage drinking scandal....do nothing.
You know that for a FACT ??
Like he said (as did Hakstol), it was handle internally.......and it was !! I know that for a FACT.
That being said..........Bina looks like the only who really on hook on here. TJ & Jt were not cited for consumption, just for being there..........hardly an earth shattering event. But, depending on what Bina did or didn't do (and none of know), that could be a much more serious issue.

After watching the Blues dynamic bunch of highly skilled forwards last night and really their whole team, I don't see how Oshie and EJ won't be getting major minutes on that team next year.
I agree. After seeing the Blues last night, and watching Oshie & EJ this season, hard to believe that they wouldn't get a lot of playing in St. Louis next year.

so 17 at D?? and just 1 at forward? gracias amigo
He's played forward since we turned the calendar. Also played he position some in high school.

One more question - How come I can't pronounce alot of the new better players names for the Goofs - Did the Red Army all immigrate to Minny since the break up of the USSR ? ? ?
Maybe the names aren't the problem "Johnson" can be a tough one
-
dunno if anyone already posted this or not, but in one of the articles in the Minneapolis paper, the following was said about Lucia: "North Dakota's talent prompted Lucia to pick it to win the WCHA this year, and the Sioux's resurgence in the new year shows why."
i dont think i would ever have expected Lucia to say something like that about the Sioux, not when his team was doing so well.
That was the pre-season coaches poll.
-
what were the significant reasons for Minn losing a couple games recently ?
Lost 2-1 to Sconnie, 1-0 to Denver..............by those scores, it should pretty obvious why they lost.
-
So he wanted a one way deal then?
He just wanted to be assured that he would spend the majority of the year the NHL (thus earning his $850,00/year) instead of in minors (making $85,000/year). Chicago would not give him that assurance.
So, yes, essentially he wanted a one way contract.......which can longer be offered to rookies drafted last year or coming years under the terms of the new CBA. If he had been drafted earlier (I know he was not elegible), the same terms would not apply. The player union negotiated in some "grandfathering" of of the terms of the old CBA (for one year) for players who drafted while it was still in effect. So it made sense for people like Potulney/Stafford to leave when they did and take advantage of the money that was available to them last spring/summer, that would not have been available to coming spring.
-
Toews was never offered a contract? Do you know that for a fact?
Yep. The Blackhawks wanted him to spend time in the minors, he had no interest in that, so no contract was offered.
-
Are you sure. I wonder why JT is still here then?
Because he was never offered a contract. And, yes I am sure.
-
No one way contract and I'll bet he goes nowhere.
No such thing as "one way" contracts in the NHL for rookies under the new CBA.

Shack's got more goals at forward than too many of our freshmen forwards that have played forward to this point. And the short lineup seemed to work fine for Lucia on Friday night against Mankato. I'm not going to feel too sorry for the Gophs in these conditions.
But you make an interesting point. How important is it for MN to stay out of the box this weekend? Can they afford to burn a lot of energy with certain players killing penalties? I don't know that MN gets into much penalty trouble so this may not be an issue. But with their more physical and edgy style of play this year I would imagine it's a possibility.
Spending a lot of time & energy killing penalties could be DISASTROUS for my boys this week-end.
Against MSU, when they were short on players as well, they played a COMPLETELY type of game. They almost looked like Wisconsin..........no forechecking, a lot of dumping into the zone, etc. Not too sure they would be able to get away with that this series.
-
last year we split winning 4-2 on Sat after getting hammered 6-1 the night before. Lammy was in net for the win and it was arguably his best game as a Fighting Sioux.
The thing that scares me most is the shotage of players for the Gophers, especially on Friday. They only have 10 forwards available to suit up. They are going to move Schack up to give them 11 warm bodies, but that means they will playing with only 3 lines, and rotate Schack and someone else in here and there to give players a break. Not an ideal situation for what looks to be a fairly up and down game. And the situation will get even worse if somone gets injured.
Hopefully the arena will be jumping all week-end.......looking forward to it !!!

To top it all off, Punkobitch is still up to his old tricks, he absolutely flattened a gopher player into the boards. Of course he picked a smaller player.
The guy is a pretty decent hockey player......but a bit of waste of human flesh !!
He may be the biggest hack in the WCHA.

So I wonder if Lucia is going to have one of his players run our goalie over and elbow him on the way down.
Watched the game last night and Gordon (I believe that is he name) blantly gave Fisher a little extra.
If they do that to our team I can definately seeing a brawl erupting. I think its funny that people are trying
to say that he was pushed so that excuses the taking out a goalie. Although in a way its kind of funny because I can't
stand the cocky denver team or their coach.
There is no doubt that Gordon gave it a little extra. Probably had a lot to do wiht Fisher's barking the night before, but still, it was really uncalled for.
Not really sure why Gordon got a game DQ though, all he did was lay on his back, and take a beating, never even removed his gloves, or attempted to throw a punch. But that is the way of officiating in the WCHA !! With his DQ, that means the Goph's will only have 19 players available to suit up on Friday, and they already have a "D" playing wing just to fill the lines.
Sioux playing with a little confidence again, Goph's going through a little patch right now, should be a lot of fun !!

pretty cool to watch this right now.......
1 hour of history, outdoor high school game in baudette (st paul johnson vs lake of the woods), gophs/du game then wild game
hockey day doing a peice in henry boucha, native american from warroad, very very cool to learn about this, wow
people saying he was best player they ever saw play, wow
he still lives in warroad, very cool story
He may have been the best HIGH SCHOOL player people ever saw.
VERY good pro player, but hardly the best ever................though it is hard to tell how good he MAY have been.
Very nice guy, and now gives back a lot to the game.

Looks like the WCHA will have a response to Mav's actions................

Well, not really. I do remember the KC IHL team that played in a half empty arena. I don't remember what their name was though.
The Blades ........no, really, they were !!
-
Its going to be hard to not look at KC as a viable option with arena like that. The biggest question is will they support hockey in KC.
Remember the Kansas City Scouts ?

Seats 15,015 for hockey.............NHL prefers around 18,000, even if they can't sell them
-
Bradley Center is pretty old and not that great of an arena. The Admirals don't play there and I highly doubt the NHL wants to put a team in that arena.
They sure do...........at least according to the Bradley Center web site, and the Admirals web site.
But I do agree, it's not that great of an arena........they sure need to replace all the seat cushions, that's for sure !!

The first Final Five I went to, I was sitting next to a HUGE (size) Gopher fan. Was a little intimidated, but soon found out that he was very nice. We compared notes about each others players and had a good time for the 4 games. Now, his buddies next to him were a different story. This big guy next to me was the one who jumped on the obnoxius guy who yelled at the little boy in front of us. (I mentioned that in a couple posts ago). He appologized to me for the other guys behavior. Very nice.
Good for him....and for you.
Fact is 95% of most fan bases are fabulous people (except maybe Wisconsin), unfortunately if you run into just that one "situation", it's the one that tends to stick you with you.
At the Final 5, there are 6 of us Gopher fans, with 2 sets of Sioux fans on either side of us, 4 Sioux fans & 2 UMD fans in front of us, and a group of CC guys in back of us. We have GREAT time together, and it's one of the reasons I enjoy the Final 5 so much.

I agree with you on this one, never really did understand that, though I am sure it was done for FSN.
But you say that it's not true anymore ?? Where did you see that ?
