  1. Did you watch the Gopher/Sioux series in December? The Gophers were the better team for the majority of the weekend. Both teams have seven losses in league play. To be as cocky as you and some fellow Sioux fans are being to assume that the Sioux will be in St. Paul and the Gophers won't just doesn't make sense. The Gophers are four points out of third place with two games in hand.

The Gophers did outplay UND that week-end, but on the whole I would say things are NOT looking good for our squad. For one thing, the weak 1/2 of the schedule was the first half, things get tougher now, and we are below .500. UND had a far tougher first 1/2 than what they have coming up. There is a very real chance they sweep the next 3 series and put the Goph's in the rear view mirror.

The D for the Gophers is still a big mystery, no idea where the goals are going to come from, AND we seem to have a goaltender 'situation' again. ;)

I like the Sioux's chances of finishing in the 3 spot, but at this point would delighted if our boys were able finish in the top 5.

  2. :D

oshie was offered a top deal and a spot playing on a top st louis line in the NHL. he turned it down. just face it. he didnt quit halfway through a season he commited to come back for.

The person I talked to would differ with you, and he has an office in the Scottrade Center, in St. Louis........I'll go with what he said.

  3. first off, i agree that this sucks for the gophers, and for college hockey. secondly, im pretty sure that oshie was offered a rookie max deal, not some minor league crap. and lastly, i would disagree that nhl is easier than college. college is not hard...especially the classes that most hockey players take. the nhl is a grind. there is way more pressure to perform in the nhl. you mess up and you get moved down.

    Not true.......

  4. Not to blow my own horn but I was dead on. Four officials and Lil Shep the barrage of penalites didn't happen but Campion was able to call a penatly on the sioux after a great dive by wheeler.

What about the hooking call on Okposo ? Goes both ways.........

  5. So they must control this somehow right. Say someone pays the lower level price but the seats fill up? I suppsoe the lower level option must stop once it is full. Ill go through Xcel next year? or really is there much differnce than ticket*(&$%& ?

Thru the Xcel, you will get a order form every year to get the same seats, with an option to upgrade (be careful about "upgrading"). Plus there are no "other" charges. $145 per set. That's it.

  6. When I ordered my tickets about a month and a half ago, I just got a reservation. How'd you manage to actually purchase seats? Did you go to XCel or through Ticket******?

If you order thru Ticketmaster, they are first come first serve. If you order through the Xcel Center, you have the option of getting the same seats every year, or try to upgrade.

  7. I was concerned when the Goofers got Walters that Mattson might follow. Nice to see that is not the case. This really opens a wound for Lucia now I hope we can pour a little Budish style lemon juice on that wound.

Mattson most certainly is the cream of the crop for that age group, and this is a major commitment for the Sioux. The Gophers recruited to kid hard, and anyone who tells you different is just flat out lying or stupid.

As far Budish is concerned, I don't think the Gopher's at this point would be willing to offer him a full scholarship, or even an 75% at this point. A lot of folks have really cooled a little on this kid.

  8. What part about neutral site are you refering too as it was never mentioned by myself?

The X is obviously the best venue for a number of reasons that we are all aware of - but to insist (perhaps not you of course) that it is not an advantage for the home town team is just plain - well - ignorant. That arguement lacks credibility - as does the individual that makes such a claim.

I'm done - until March probably - and moving on.

There is NO question the Gophers playing at the X is home game for them.

However, the ONLY purpose of the WCHA FF is to generate money for the WCHA, it really does not serve any other purpose. No team has EVER made or missed the NCAA tourney based on what happened that week-end. It HAS flipped a seeding a couple of times, but that's it. It's 100% completely about the green, and the few time that they tried playing the FF to Milwaukee, the results weren't very good......even the Badger games weren't close to being sold out.

  9. this would hurt the gophers for sure, i think he is a player that has played both d and forward, i wonder if ottawa has differetn plans for him than the gophes?? im sure there is a gopher fan reading this that could help with this

No help here.......this one (if it happens) has us all scratching our heads as well.

Doesn't really seem to make sense on either party's end.

  10. well as of right now, he is going to to be like brian elliott was for UW. he will get them a lot of 1 goal wins and if not for him, they would lose at least 5 more. luckily for du, i would bet that mannino will stay. i just think that their recruiting has gone way downhill. time will tell. they do have some quality guys coming in, but 2 good players will not make the team what it was 4 years ago.

They did bring another goaltender about a week and a half ago.........Lars Paulgaard, from Oslo, Norway, played for Southern Minnesota Express in the NAHL last year. Haven't seen any thing official yet, but it is a "for sure" deal.

  11. That's what I thought. As

I remember Kessel saying he didn't want to play in the Minors and Kessel signed for the Rookie max which is 850,000 which he ended up staying in the NHL all season except for the time he did his rehab stint.

Kessel was going to team that had no offense to speak off anyway.....so chances were pretty good that he would stay up the entire season.

Toews told the Blackhawks that if they planned on sending him down for any amount of time, he would prefer to return to UND, which is the reason he was never offered a contract last summer. I expect that will change shortly.

I think with Oshie, it's a bit of different deal. St. Louis will for sure sign EJ, so it becomes a question of how many teen-agers they want to go into next season with, plus it may depend on who they end up drafting this year. May actually know a little more about that later this afternoon.

  12. I was under the impression that rookies couldn't be offered an one way contract I thought i heard that on xm-204 the other day.

Does anyone know for sure. The boys can get the rookie max for sure but they will only get a max of $850,000.00 and an $85,000.00 signing bonus.

You are correct......there is no such thing as a one way contract for rookies under the new CBA.

  13. If that would have cost us the game Radke should have walked home. There was no need for that, all he was looking at was the back of EJs jersey. It should have just been 2 mins but you have to show some discipline at that point of the game.

If you hit the player in the back INTO the boards, its an automatic 5. The rules are black and white on that one.

It wasn't much of hit, but again, that doesn't matter. The call was correct.

  14. Not scoring on that major damaged the Gophers in two ways:

    - not scoring

    - their top guys spent a lot of energy not scoring

Yep...between the energy they spent chasing pucks by not winning face-offs, and all the skating they did on the power plays, and NOT scoring, the legs just left them by OT. No question the Sioux were the quicker bunch when it counted.

  15. According to the Herald, it was 49-30 on face-offs. So 5 out of 8 times UND started with the puck first. That's huge. Also, Toews was 21-12 on face-offs, VandeVelde 12-7 on Face-offs, and Kaip 7-3 on face-offs. I just couldn't believe that Wheeler got to keep taking draws for Minnesota in the defensive zone when the announcers said he had only won something like 3 out 12 or 15 face-offs that whole game. Why wouldn't you put your best face-off guy out there for the UofM when the face-offs are in your zone in OT?

Okposo was the only Gopher winning face-offs, and that dude was gassed in the OT.

  16. No regrets.....it was a great game where both teams had chances to win it, in both regulation, and in overtime.

The real shame is that this game wasn't played in the Frozen Four, where a lot more people would have exposed to what college hockey is REALLY about.

You should be very proud of heart and desire that your guys played with. I certainly am of mine.

The best of luck St. Louis !!
