  1. I'd love to hear what's wrong with his attitude. His first few games he didn't work hard without the puck. He grew out of that real quick as a matter of necessity. Now he's a beast and loves to get greasy in the corners.

Are you saying that he hasn't made some questionable "decisions" both on and off the ice ?

Maybe you folks should find out who Jason Zent is before making comments.

  2. Yeah he's really having a crappy career at UND with that attitude. Who gives a crap. This season i take 7 over 27 on your squad. 27 could be the version of a hockey Terminator if he wanted to be but for whatever reason isn't.

Who ever said he had a crappy career ?..........quite the contrary, he has an ENORMOUS amount of talent, and has been a great college hockey player.

You'll get no argument from me on that...........

  4. Via UND Men's Hockey twitter:

Sure seems like he was in a hurry to get the hell out of ND.

Something must have been going on that nobody outside of the program knows about, otherwise the whole thing just seems weird.

  5. Case-in-point is the Gophers' losses to Vermont and Northeastern this past season.

Correct........if the Gophers had won JUST that one game against Vermont, they would have finished #3 in the Pairwise.

  6. You ever been to the championship of the Final Five the last two years? Probably not since the gophers a)weren't there. I rest my case, boner!

You DO realize that most UND fans (and 13,000 is a bit of a strech) at the Final Five live in Minnesota (most in the metro area), right ?

  7. I would think so too, and I don't buy the idea that the B1G Mistake is going to get the Xcel over the NCHC.

At this point, haven't heard alot about the B1G Mistake tourny, but i can't imagine the Xcel would be in the mix. Ohio State and Penn State attendance would be non-existant (though thats probably true where ever it's held).

I would guess the thing probably gets put in Detroit, which is about as "centerally" located as it can be.

Jeez i hate this whole thing, lets just rewind and leave the WCHA the way it is..............as Lou Nanne said the other day, all of these AD's need to stop worrying about only money, and start thinking about whats best for collage hockey as a whole.

  8. This weekend I had the chance to watch a bit of the Michigan State/Minnesota games and came to a more clear understanding of why Lucia is excited to get into the Big Ten league. The amount of contact and hitting in the games was very minimal especially when compared to a normal WCHA series. Many times a MSU player had a Gopher lined up and either made a soft hit or just played the puck. That type of play is what the Gophers want to engage in with the players they get. After they are in the BT league it will be interesting to see how the do when they play more physical non-conference games.

Lucia (as well as most Gopher fans), are decidedly NOT excited about the Big 10 HC.

  9. No problem pal. I've brought us the same amount of National Championships as Hakstol has. And I'm doing it for FREE. He has had the most talent in the last decade than any other team in the country and still has produced SQUAT.

You "happy to be there" fans can take all of your frozen four "appearances". I've been a UND hockey fan for 2 decades and expect NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS from a program with the history that UND has.

Hakstol CHOKES time and time again and gets outcoached by Hockey East time and time again. We don't need to pay a coach an arm and a leg to do that.

So again, my "resume" for you includes ZERO National Championships. The same that our overrated coach has. Good enough for ya?

I love it when people use ONLY national championships as a measuring stick. It just means they are completely clueless what it takes, and what it means to actually win one.

Yes, you have to be good, and well coached. Thats a given. But seeing as the play-offs is a "one and done' deal, you also need to have more than a little luck on your side.

A case can certainly be made for saying more often than not, the BEST team does not win the National Championship, but the team that gets "hot" at the right time. Take nothing away from UMD, but who really thinks they were THE best team in the country last year ?

  10. So if the Big Sky picks up hockey in a few years, UND will be obligated to drop out of the new conference and play hockey in the Big Sky or get kicked out in all sports?

I don't think they can force a team to move from an established conference to a new conference of their creation by force, but again, if you can provide that from the Big Ten bylaws it would be helpful.

The difference is the University of Minnesota is a member of the Big 10, not each individual sport.

The UND hockey program is (currently) a member of the WCHA, the football program is a member of the Big Sky, the University as a whole, is not aligned with any single organization.

  11. So you're saying they were forced to drop out of their current hockey conferences and join the new BTHC...OR get kicked out of the Big Ten for all sports? Really?

You would have to provide a source for that statemnet to have any credibility at all.

    Seriously ??

What part of "UNIVERISTY" being a member of the Big 10 don't you understand ?

The individual Universities don't get to pick and choose where they want to play. Once the BTHC came to be, it was a done deal. The only reason these 5 Univeristies did not play in the same conference is because the Big 10 didn't have one.

Do you seriously think Ohio State is free to join a another conference in football if they desired ??

BTW.........I HATE the idea of the BTHC more than you can even imagine.

  12. Would there have been a Big Ten Hockey Conference if Minnesota and Wisconsin said they weren't interested? Would the other 4 teams have formed the league without them? Minnesota and Wisconsin are not as innocent in this as you guys like to portray, they knew what was going on and they went along with it, they didn't go kicking and screaming. What was the Big Ten going to do if they said no...kick them out of the Big Ten Conference for all sports? Not hardly.

Thats exactly what would have happened.

The University of Minnesota is a member of the Big 10, not just the football or baseball, etc teams. To assume that it was even an option for the University as a whole to tell the Big 10 they were dropping out so that their hockey tem could remain in the WCHA, just plain defies any commom sense.

The tail (and in this case a very nubby tail) doesn't wag the dog.

  13. I can't believe the BTN propaganda is re-published verbatim without journalists thinking about the premise.

No-one/nobody/ziltch/nada viewers in the Twin Cities market will tune in to a BTN broadcast of a Penn State vs. Ohio State/fill in the blank match up when the Gophers are playing on another network. If they can't get MSP viewers, do they really think they will get viewers from the rest of the BTN coverage area to watch?

the BTN already holds the rights to ALL of the Gopher hockey games (and all other sports for that matter). FSN has to get approval (and possibly purchase the rights ?) from the BTN for every games that they show. So in theory, when BTN is showing the big PSU vs OS match-up, that COULD be the only hockey game available in the twin cities area, or any other place that gets FSN.

  14. EDIT: This, of course, assumes that the other four Big Ten schools want to play in parralel leagues. My guess is that unless all of the Big Ten schools sign off on parralel leagues, the Big Ten would dictate a full fledged BTHC.

Thats the way this thing will end up going. Everyone is stating "if MN/WIS decide" to join the BTHC (when it is created). I don't think they wiil have a choice or a say in the matter. The Big 10 will mandate the move to accomodate the BTN, who at this point really holds the purse strings for everyone's athletic budgets. Lucia has been on record as saying he does not want to leave the WCHA for ANY reason, but even if he is still around when the BTHC gets created, he ain't going to have much to say about it.

  15. I know how to ref. I am a ref. I am just saying that it should be consistent. Not a horrible night for the ref crew, but not particularly good either. And to make a game-deciding call on a bench penalty that was not in-play........

Serious question...............is this the first hockey "match" you have ever seen ?

  16. ... and that would be an incentive for Minn to join the BTHC? What's the UM $$$ cut of the OSU/MSU game versus the $$$ from FSN?

Do the math and it's why Maturi will fight the BTHC.

No argument here......that's why Lucia(and hopefully Maturi), aren't real keen on the idea. In the end it would probably mean less exposure for the program.

Personally, I hope it never happens.

  17. There are other forces driving the BTHC. not BTN (see the article that started the thread).

If they REALLY want college hockey on BTN, they could do it now - there are plenty of games to show with the existing B10 hockey schools now.

Here's the problem - If the Buckeyes and Spartans are on B10N Friday nite, do you think Twin Cities viewers are going to switch away from a Gopher game to watch it? If not, what's the point for the B10N? They could get the same eyeballs showing Volleyball, Swimming, Football replays, etc. Only hockey markets (Detroit/TC) will be tuning in for hockey. They would need/want all their hockey viewers tuned in.

If they were smart, they would "Beanpot" the current Showcase on 2 Mondays. Then they would have an exclusive audience. They could do this now, without the BTHC.

There are games, but they really don't want to show a Big 10 vs Non Big 10 team. And if they decided they wanted people to watch the Buckeyes and the Spartans on BTN, there could just not give FSN the rights to the Gopher that night, and there would be no Gopher game to watch anywhere.
