  1. Do we have on black jerseys???

For your sake I hope they do because on sunday the entire team will be attending their own funeral after the Gophers sweep the sioux by a score of 102-1 and 56-1

  2. Duncan-Oshie-Toews line scares me.........

Join the club... From all accounts I have read they basically dominate any team when they are on the ice. I assume the same would be true this weekend. If we can hold them scoreless all weekend long (big task) the Gophers could sweep. If they start hitting and sticking like Popeyes fried chicken I just may have to head back to the hardware store for more paint thinner

  3. No Kidding... Count on the Gophers having at least 3-4 more power plays that the Sioux this weekend.

    Will happen for sure.

Goon Goon Goon, of course the Gophers will have 3-4 more penalites than the sioux--the officials are on the Gopher payroll. Where the hell have you been all week?

  4. Go ahead, call me a troll. I find your board fairly entertaining during Gopher/Sioux week.

Here's an honest take. Gophers win Saturday night for sure. Friday is the iffy night. If the Sioux get a point or two, it will ocme on Friday, that makes tonights game the big one in my opinion.

One last thing, I'll admit it i can"t stand the Sioux, but I respect the fans. YOu guys are passionate and that's cool. I wish/hope you could return the repsect. I like good natured jawing, but some of the comments here (and on GPL) get a little rediculous. It's almost as bad as sying my dad could beat up your dad.

To sum things up, I want a fast, physical game with a hard shove or two on both sides but a clean, stand up game over all. And I hope the Refs keep the whistle in the pocket as much as possible.

No trolls here just Skippies

  5. Swept in a first round WCHA playoff series in 2002.

Lost by THREE to something called Ferris State in the first round in 2003.

With Parise, Bochenski, Murray, Stafford, etc., a #1 NCAA seed holds a team to 17 shots on goal and still loses in 2004.

In 2005, following a nice run to the title game, the all-mighty Jordan Parise stops 83.3 percent of the shots he faces as they get beat by THREE GOALS.

In 2006, another Frozen Four flameout. Decides to give BC a 5-1 lead and then remember the pride they have wearing the Sioux sweater to make a game of it. Once again, holier than thou, better than Briggs, Jordan Parise stops 80.6 percent of the shots he faced.

Only 2,463 days since the last Sioux title.

Prepare for the onslaught of Holy Cross references. You have done it now. Good luck to you and may God have mercy on your soul.

TC is a Gopher fan & I am a Gopher fan, however I do not want to be affiliated with his/her comment

  6. No s&!t, Kaip can't afford to drop them either. That doesn't mean that Radke, Finley or maybe Jonsey wouldn't consider it though.

My money is on Cary Eades into the crowd. The blue-hair security guards with their canes screaming "Stop it Sonny back in my day we never did this type of thing"

  7. How about proper and fair officiating.

(This is meant to justify my excuses should the unthinkable happen.)

Not gonna happen this weekend. I sent the officials their "payoff" money since all of the WCHA officials are on the Gopher payroll.

This virtually gurantees a Gopher sweep. Man now I can rest easy this weekend

  8. A miracle.

That is non-sense. 2 months ago I would agree with you but today these teams are a lot closer than their record indicates. Believe me, I would love to see the Gophers sweep in a dominating fashion this weekend but it ain't gonna happen. UND could easily get 2 if not 3 points.

  9. And if you are one of those thin skinned Gopher fans that I alluded to in my previous post, why in the name of hockey would you visit another teams chat. Do yourself a favor and stick with a site that only speaks highly of your empire.

That is why we come to this board to get all of our Golden Gopher hockey news

  10. Was there as much loathing of the Gophers back then? Were we as arrogant then as now?

The first taunt I heard was the old 5>3 on the 1st incarnation of USCHO. Or maybe it was a hockey list.

I think that is a fair question. My guess would be it all started in April 2002

  11. One more question - How come I can't pronounce alot of the new better players names for the Goofs - Did the Red Army all immigrate to Minny since the break up of the USSR ? ? ?

Darn those pesky names like Briggs, Howe, and Flynn. Can't forget about Anderson & Johnson--residents of the upper-Midwest have a very very difficult time with those names. And obviously Vannelli, Goligoski, and Okposo are names that synonomous with Russian heritage. ;)

  12. If I had a quarter for every time one of you Skippies use that phrase I could pay off my mortgage Funny how all of that should never seems to come through when it matters.

Did you happen to read the last paragraph in my post where I said this series will be a split?? I even highlighted it for you. Yes statistically the Gophers are superior to UND so far this year. Break it down any way you want but MN's record is 13-2-3 in WCHA play where UND is 7-9-2. Does that equate into an automatic sweep this weekend---obviously not that is why they play the games (worn out cliche)

  13. I haven't seen much eveidence to suggest this. I think they were actually lucky to beat your team in Madtown.

See I disagree. UW style of play is very very defensive-minded. They basically sit back and wait for the other team to make mistakes and then capitilize on them. I think when they swept UND in the ralph a few weeks ago it gave them a boost of confidence. The MN series Friday UW was clearly the better team and I thought the Saturday game was 50/50.

  14. I am sorry to cloud the issue with facts but UND hasn't been swept in Mpls since 1995.

*Sigh* Please go back and read my posts. I have been saying this series will be a split from the get go. In the aforementioned post my point was IF (key word IF) MN can sweep UND along with a SCSU/DU split would result in further seperation in the WCHA standing. The possibility of MN sweeping UND is very real, the possibility of UND sweeping MN is very real

  15. Here is my take on this weekend:

For UND--this is a huge huge weekend. They need to continue to build upon their momentum from the previous 4 weeks. They need to get at least 3 points to keep ahead of Wisconsin for the 5th place in the WCHA. UW has played 16 league games where UND has played 18. UW appears to be turning the corner a bit. UND does not want to finish 6th in the WCHA and have to go to the Kohl Center for the 1st round. A series split does not do much to UND except improve their Pariwise ranking. If UND gets swept it could be a long remainder of the season.

MN--A sweep can give them some more seperation from DU & SCSU. Said teams are squaring off this weekend in Denver. I see a split with the SCSU/DU series. A sweep of UND coupled with a DU/SCSU split would vault the Gophers 7 points ahead of the 2nd place team in the WCHA. I guess I am not too concerned about the outcome of this weekend though. I want to see MN play their style of hockey and keep improving on the PP & PK.

  16. Ha ha! Best story I've heard all week! Let's go Sioux!

    Let's see here.

    Minnesota 18 13-2-3 29 58-32 27 21-3-3 105-51

    2 St. Cloud State 18 10-4-4 24 63-44 24 16-4-4 88-52

    3 Denver 18 10-6-2 22 46-42 28 18-8-2 77-59

    4 Colorado College 16 10-6-0 20 50-43 24 14-9-1 79-64

    5 North Dakota 18 7-9-2 16 50-50 26 13-11-2 80-70

    6 Wisconsin 16 7-8-1 15 34-32 24 10-12-2 53-52

    Alaska-Anchorage 20 7-12-1 15 48-70 26 11-12-3 71-83

    8 Michigan Tech 18 6-10-2 14 45-44 26 11-13-2 63-60

    9 Minnesota State 18 5-10-3 13 50-65 26 8-14-4 72-91

    10 Minnesota-Duluth 20 5-13-2 12 45-67 28 9-16-3 77-97

    Joe Fallon, Jr, UVM 22 13-7-2 1297:03 35 462 .930 1.62

    2 Kellen Briggs, Sr, UMN 15 11-2-2 908:12 26 374 .935 1.72

    3 David Brown, Sr, ND 24 19-4-1 1449:27 42 534 .927 1.74

    4 John Curry, Sr, BU 20 10-4-6 1228:28 36 510 .934 1.76

    5 Peter Mannino, Jr, DU 11 6-3-1 634:36 21 289 .932 1.99

    6 Jeff Frazee, So, UMN 12 10-1-1 724:53 24 251 .913 1.99

The Gophers have a 21-3-3 record. They are outscoring their opponents at about a 2:1 ratio. They score an average of about 4 goals/game and only give up a little under 2goals/game. They have 2 of the top ranked goalies in college hockey with Briggs giving up 1.72 GAA & Frazee giving up 1.99 GAA. They damn near never give up any 5on5 goals during a game. They reeled off an 22 game unbeaten streak and 21 straight victories at Mariucci

Statiscally speaking they should sweep UND, however, the games are played on the ice not on the score-sheet.

I am sticking to my guns and saying a series split. I think the last 5 years UND has split with MN in Mariucci. I see this trend continuing this weekend. UND wins Friday but MN wins Saturday

  17. I was looking through the Blackhawk's message board and came across this radio interview with Toews, I believe it's from this week.

    http://www.92citifm.ca/mp3s/2007/jontoews02.mp3

I would like to think that the idea of going back to the World Juniors for a third time might keep him at UND another year, but only time will tell....

I think that is a stretch. Under the new CBA his salary is about $800,000 annually or $75,000/month plus some type of signing bonus (with that type of money he might qualify for a mortgage, YO JT give me a call... the mortgage business is slow this time of year). As much as he may like UND passing up that kind of money is awfully awfully difficult.
