  1. I think und is catching the Gophers at the right time. Minnesota has been riddled with injuries--Stoa out with a knee, Bostom out with hand surgery, Wheeler banged up a little, Mike Howe missing some time from a concussion. Therefore, Lucia is forced to play Hoeffel, White, Fisher, Kevin Wehrs as a forward but natural position is defensemen who are all true freshmen. Playing that many young guys typically does not add to the scoring punch or to victories. Missing Mike Carman the 1st half of the year does not help matters any. Add to the mix 3 freshmen blueliners and it equals a middle of the pack WCHA team so far.

The Gophers have looked very good at times this year but they also have looked very bad at times. Inconsistent is the buzz word right now.

I do think the Gophers will be a lot better in February than they are in December but for this weekend I do not see any way the Gophers take 3 or 4 points. Possibly a split but more than likely und either sweeps or they get 3 points.

  2. I'd like to see the Final 5 at the Ralph once - But I have to admidt I really like the Excell Center & going to the twin Cities that weekend - It is the WCHA at it's Best - I even have the parking thing all figured out - wonder how one less bridge will affect things down there ?

Here is my take on the Final 5 @ the X--Does it favor the Gophers??--yeah I think soooo. Only because of the 19k in attendance about 14K of them are Gopher fans. I do think in most sports having the crowd behind you does provide a "home field advantage".

Try this on for size--What if the Final 5 were to be held in Denver or Chicago??? Both locales have everything St. Paul has and you truly have a neutral site tournament.

  4. Why do some fans get so upset about other teams being talked about? Especially in a thread like this that is about all teams and their loses. Sioux fans brought up the discussion of how the Gophers will do next year and what their weaknesses will be. Why get your shorts in a knot when a Gopher fan expands upon this? You can't talk about Goligoski and the effect his departure will have on the Gophers and then get all huffy puffy when a Gopher fan talks about the Gophers.

STOP THAT!!!!!!!! a common sense logical post has no place in this forum. Sheesh

  5. Don't let anyone kid you losing Briggs was a gift to the Goofers. The kid never won what I would consider a big game when it mattered most.

They might be better without him. That being said their defense is going to be their weakness followed by goaltending.

Holy mother of pearl I actually agree with what Goon says. Do you believe in miracles YYYEEEESSSSS

Anyway, Briggs solid during the regular season but brutal in post-season. He folds faster than a tuesday newspaper. Frazee seemed like he matured a little last year and turned the corner. I actually had more confidence in Long Island Frazee than Briggs.

Defensemen will be an issue. Awfully young back there. tDon is bringing in some beef with Bickel and Shack but I don't think they are mobile enough. Shack struggled mightily at times last season.

Either way, they still will be a solid team. Might have some growing pains Oct - Dec. but they will be in the hunt.

  6. I'm getting really sick of this defense. Toews lives in the US. He knows what the laws are here. What he can do legally in Canada is totally irrelevant.

STOP THAT!!!! That is a well-thought out logical response which has nnoooooooo business being on this forum.

Shape up or ship out PCM :(

  7. Many years ago I heard that UND does NOT get a share of the revenue from the National Tournament

because of the fact that we are Division I in hockey only. Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

If in fact UND does not get revenue, isn't that alone enough reason to make the move to D-I in other sports?

You are 100% correct in the fact that und as a D-II school does not receive a dime of the revenue from NCAA events(except maybe a percentage of the concession sales). To me that is a crock of horse bleep.

As far that being a reason to go D-1 is not a very good reason. To fund a Divison 1 athletic department you are talking some major $$$. My father-in-law is a big time sioux booster and according to him und would need to generate an additional $1M - $2M revenue each year. What und would get back from the NCAA in hockey revenue does not make the sole reason to go D-1 much sense.

  8. Don't come over here and flame away to be a-holes. There is no need. Our/my team lost to und in the regional final and und lost to bc in the national semi-final. Point being is that both universities will not be national champions this season. Let's be honest here, the NC is what both teams are playing for nothing more nothing less.

  9. The one thing I learned back in April of 2001, was that you win some and you lose some. It took UND's championship loss to BC for me to recognize just how hard it is to win EVERY SINGLE GAME. I was spoiled-I expected the Sioux to win championships every single year. I was cocky-I thought our dominance over teams like Denver would go on forever....I suffered the same fate in the West Regionals of 2004. Living in Denver, I think some DU fans experienced this air of invincability after winning two straight NCAA championships. When the bar has been raised so high, a fan expects their team to maintain that level or, in some cases, raise it even further.

I can't say a negative thing about the Gopher fans at the Pepsi Center-they were as energetic and supportive of their team as any of the other three teams' fans. I knew that I could just as easily be taking that dreaded walk out of that arena, having to listen to the celebration of Minnesota fans. That being said, I told myself I would not be a jerk about it if the Sioux should prevail when leaving that arena. I also credit the Gopher fans who came over to Brooklyn's after the game to have some drinks and food.

This game was truly a coin flip. I wouldn't touch this one in Vegas if my life depended on it.

One thing I do know, Minnesota will come back next season as loaded as ever.

People can say what they want about Gopher fans. I think 99% of us are solid hard-core hockey fans. We cheer/support/root for our team. I really think the "Arrogant Gopher" fan is soooooo overblown. Look at the first paragraph of this post. A sioux fan admitting about being cocky & arrogant. DU fans were the same.

What is my point?: Gopher fans are really no different than sioux fans with the exception of cheering for different teams.

I thought last nights game was AWESOME. Very even matchup. I don't think one team dominated the other. Overall, like I said earlier the two biggest, baddest, motherf"ers on the college hockey block squared off. Sioux won and they deserved to. They made a play when it mattered the most. So congratulations.

One more thing, I will agree next years Gophers squad will be loaded. Really they are only losing Briggs. A little birdy is telling me EJ will be back, Goli will be back, and Wheeler. However, Okposo might bolt

  10. Gonna be an awesome game. The two biggest baddest mothef'ers on the college hockey block going toe-to-toe & blow-for-blow.

What Gopher team shows up tonight-- the one that decided to play the last 10 minutes of the game yesterday or the one that played 60 minutes in the Final 5 championship

what und team will show up-- the one that let in 4 goals in 10 mintues or the one that dismantled Michigan in the 3rd period.

Anyway, good luck to both squads and may the winner represent the WCHA proud in St. Louis

  11. pstar, SLap Shot, Gopher crowd:

I'd like you to tell me what would you do as a goaltender if: You make the save and get barraged by slashes, stick checks, etc. after you have made the save from when you make the save to shortly after the whistle sounds?

Obviously, this should be an original answer. Raising your glove to say you have the puck in it would obviously be showboating. So what would you do?

Don't tell me the officials will take care of it. You have to pull a Bruess for them to do anything major. Don't say your D or your players should rush in to protect the goaltender. They'd head to the box for roughing or some other crap. So what would you do?

Well as anyone who has ever played the game of hockey knows you always, I mean ALWAYS, poke & slash at the goalie until the whistle blows. This is done on the off-chance that the goalie actually losses control of the puck & the opposing player knocks the puck into the net for a goal. Furthermore, all players on the ice are taught at a young age to play until the whistle blows---goalies, forwards, and defensemen. I really do not know the point of this since all players have been taught to play this way since the age of 5.

I don't think in this example the lamaro is "showboating" College hockey officials are very quick to whistle the play dead when it appears the goalie has control of the puck (obviosuly to protect the goalie) I think the "showboating" persists when a slapshot is taken from the blueline and lamaro makes a glove save and he "over-exaggerates" the fact he has made the save and starts to shake his head back-n-forth. This might be his way of motivating himself but from a opposing fan-base perspective it certainly appears as "showboating"

  12. In the late game last night it seemed that Albert Lea defenseman Adam Royce was the best player on the ice. I thought he looked better than Aaron Marvin from Warroad.

I thought Marvin would dominate that game. He really did not do too much except 2 big face off wins that led to the PP goals. Royce from AL did look impressive.

I gotta tell you something, the farmboys from AL may not have as much skill as the northern teams, however they play very well positioned hockey and they hit. I thought they out-hit & out-muscled Warroad last night. I think Warroad was a little shocked that AL physically manhandled them last night.

  13. Well shoot everyone knows it was a Gopher fan on the grassy knoll. The Great Depression? The fall of Saigon? The 1991 Halloween snowstorm? That's right - we did it.

I gotta tell you - it feels really good to finally get that off my chest.

    Slapshot,

Remember the secret oath we all took as Gopher fans to never reveal the conspiracy? Well I let the cat out of the bag a few weeks. I posted it on this website--I will try to find my post for you to read. I told them that it all started with Herb Brooks back in the 1970's then went onto Woog and now to Lucia.

Here is the conspiracy in a nutshell, Slapshot feel free to add anything if I have missed.

We all know that there is a massive conspiracy against UND. It starts with the wcha officials headed by that b@stard Shepherd which runs everything through McLeod who is taking orders from Don Lucia. Lucia is in coohoots with the NCAA (which is why they will not drop the lawsuit). Actually way back in 2001 when the ncaa started its anti-Native American imagery parade against all universities using said imagery, in truth it was just a front to attack UND and the fighting sioux name. Matter of fact, when Congress requested the ncaa to start investigating colleges/universities using native American imagery the leading House of Representative was from South St. Paul Minnesota who just happened to be boyhood friends with Doug Woog, Herb Brooks, and another individual who works for the CIA but needs to stay nameless. In the late 70's is when these 4 got together and started the conspiracy wheels in motion. The end result was to take down UND and let the university of Minnesota dominate. As evidenced of the multiple university of minnesota national champions during the 80's and 90's the conspiracy was worked like clockwork.

  14. OK I understand all that, but they had jsut been swept. That was my only point. But the Sioux should have moved up a little I think. Just my opinion

For the Gophers to have just 1 let alone 4 first place votes just proves how absolutly worthless the polls really are. The Pairwise and KRACH are an accumulation of the entire season but looking at the Gophers results/record over the last 10 games and to think they are even worthy of 1 first place vote is laughable.

  15. Wow, that really narrows it down. That's like a SCSU fan saying they are the one in the Polaris jacket drinking turpentine.

I am thinking about buying a camoflauge hat that says "Get R Done" and bringing a case of Blatz with me so I will fit right in at the NCCC

  16. Who are you going to be cheering for? :D

That is an awfully difficult question. Its kinda like this: raw explosive diarehea spraying from your rectum or passing kidney stones that feel like razor-blades coming from your urinary tract=== Either way it is going to be painful

More than likely I will cheer for UND since the outlaws love em so much.
