Agree 100%. I actually groaned out loud during the UND/Denver game last Friday when certain sections tried igniting the "SIOUX FOREVER" chant. I wear the Sioux jersey, that's enough for me.

I think the new scoreboard and video boards and new lighting have really improved the in game visual experience. I'm with farce poobah about the ice surface. If the Target Center could put good ice on the concrete then I'd be fine with it staying at the TC. I love the X and it's a great facility, but I don't see that many more people attending just because it's at the X if the playing surface was good and the boards/glass was up to snuff. Perhaps that will happen in the future but I'd be fine if they moved it to the X.

I thought it was bad at first, and worse on the replay. It looks like he really tried to finish off the hit and didn't just barrel into him.
Agree he really drove into Cam. that was the worst part of it.

I would have agreed with a GM call on that play, for sure. I think they called charging, and I think guys have gotten GM's for charging. This could have fit that definition for sure.

Spotted another sweet dive re-watching the highlights. This time Raskob #15.
Watch at 4:15 during the scrum. He's on the ice then gets up a huge fury, initially almost pounces on his own guy. Simo sticks an arm out to keep him off and Raskob hits the ice like he's been shot as well. Then immediately looks at the official and spreads his arms looking for the call while laying on the ice. What the heck Bullpups? And then a couple seconds later, he sits up after realizing he won't get the call and he takes a punch at Ausmus' leg. Of which Gage doesn't even acknowledge.
Wasn't that a Bulldog player who "died" when almost punched by Pattyn a few years ago, too?

I recorded the game and need to look at it again. If that's true, I can better understand the question about a suspension. My memory of what I've seen was that he buried his shoulder in Cam's chest, but I could have missed what you saw.
-
Regarding Pionk, does that hit rise to the standard of what is suspendable? There's no doubt it was a dirty play, but there are dirty plays all the time that don't get suspended. This wasn't a hit to the head or a hit from behind, the 2 most common incidents that lead to suspensions (I would guess).
I'm asking the question, not arguing against a suspension. Even if I am right, it doesn't mean there's not a good argument to be made that this sort of thing SHOULD be suspendable.
I'm just wondering if it rises to the same level of things that have resulted in suspensions in the past.

Ref's had a horrible game.
Absolutely. For example, I believe the first penalty called on Duluth was a bad call.
2 hours ago, UNDColorado said:Pionk is nothing more then an oxygen thief. I will cheer for any team that is playing Duluth now and hope Pionk gets a dose of his own medicine.
that's a big 10-4. Duluth may be lucky Healey from Ohio State was removed from next weekend.

I understand the concern about the penalty on Janutuinen putting us down 5x3 at the end of the game, but watching it in real life, and then watching a replay I can see how the call was made. JJ does wrap his arms around the guy as they hit the boards, and the guy goes down. In a penalty fest like this, with the 5x3's and PP's UND received (right, wrong or indifferent can be argued) you have to be careful. Wrapping the guy up just puts you at he mercy of what the ref sees. JJ's pressure causes the Bulldog's skates to catch the boards and drops. I'm not even sure it was a flop, but it was almost certainly going to be called the way this game was being played. JJ should not have wrapped the guy up, simple as that.

that actually sounds like a horrible game experience

Clearly it must have been built prior to the concept of hot water in rest rooms hit Minneapolis.
Must be a water saving initiative but day-ummmmm that water was cold. Anyone who doesn't know what we're taking about needs to step up on the hygiene...
From a venue perspective, I strongly prefer the X. From a personal perspective I prefer TC as I live in Mpls but that's not a huge deal. I actually kind of miss the walk down 7th street from where we used to park to the X and seeing all the fans, etc.
Some people are luckier to see a lot more hockey games live than I. The venue could be improved but I saw 2 damn good hockey games in person this weekend and I was really happy I could, rather than just on tv.

Ice looked jumpy again. The new lighting and replay boards greatly improved the ambience. Have never had a problem with ushers etc.

A defense of Ausmus, Wolanin, Shaw, Peski, and Colton Poolman just played UMD for 40 minutes to a draw (and probably should've won).
Lots of things to talk about in last night's game and the weekend in general. But this ^. Seems to me like we should be very optimistic about the state of the defense for the next few years.

Love our coach.

I don't recall last time I've seen a guy run a goalie like that. How blatant.

This is the first game I've seen live this year. I'd heard the comparisons but hadn't been able to see him play. I get it now. Just solid, responsible, talented. He reminds me of Zajac too, because when he had the puck, you were never concerned he'd do the wrong thing. Just seems to be in the right place at the right time to do the right thing.

I'm not an expert but man is he responsible. And he covered up a mistake or 2 with a good back-check, etc.

It was sarcasm. When UND plays at 4:00 pm and the Gophers play at 7:00, we b*tch about favoritism for the home team. When the re-shuffling of games is in our favor because most of us prefer 7:00 pm games to 4:00 pm games, we don't complain at all.
I was just joking around too :-)

Guessing it was Denver wanting their fans to be able to watch on TV (since they won't come to Mpls).

On 3/13/2017 at 11:38 AM, MafiaMan said:So when #1 seed UND played at 4:00 pm, it's because we got screwed over by the WCHA and the Gopher Rule. Then when we played at 4:00 pm in the NCHC, it's because the #1 seed needs the rest and likes the extra time off before playing on Saturday or avoids the quick turn-around in the 3rd place game.
Trying to figure out what your issue is with this?

I understand not going if it's family or resources, etc... But to not go because of Target Center is just creating an excuse to bail, imho.
This is how I feel too. If I'm willing to go to Mankato or St. Cloud to watch UND play a couple of games, what could be so wrong with Target Center? I agree with most people that the X was a better facility and I'd like to see it back there. But it's still a couple of meaningful UND hockey games and I'll still enjoy them. I think the worst thing about the new Target Center is the less than exciting performances by our favorite hockey team there.

There is absolutely ZERO doubt in my mind that you are hoping we don't make the tournament this year, just so you can yap to everyone who KNEW Hak was a choker and that we'd never win the big one with him about how Berry is no better.
You don't know MafiaMan, clearly.
