Who is to say why someone SHOULD or SHOULDN'T cheer for anyone else? It's the same old debate about whether WCHA team's fans should cheer for other WCHA teams in the playoffs. To each their own, IMO.

Thiessen thread on BCHL board

Stayed up and watched the game last night. Was disappointed in the Sioux D who seemed to struggle last night. I wonder if the whole team was tired, as Kessel didn't show me much either. Fritsche and Schremp were a blast to watch. I thought they were the most dynamic of the US players last night. Didn't understand Sauer's griping about the crowd. The way I see it the Canadians and the US are rivals not much different than the Sioux and the Gophers. Throw the Badgers in there in place of the Russians and it's a pick your poison situation no matter which side you are on. The Canadian fans picked someone else to cheer for, and Jack Johnson didn't give them much reason to change their mind after the US/Canada game. I also thought the US took some cheap shots as the game wore down last night, and am not surprised the game degenerated. I'm sure the Russkies did the same, but I don't see the US as blameless. I thought I heard that the Russian D would turn over the puck if pressured by a strong forecheck. Where was that? Not too many quality chances put on the Russian goalie either. If the US team had played better we likely wouldn't have heard much from the crowd anyway. Can any player look more impressive without scoring points than TJ Oshie? OMG.

Simpson got a few jabs in to start but once Greene got his feet he took control. I think Matt took more punches but Greene but the momentum was al Matt's way at the end.

There are a couple posters on the BCHL board who claim they heard that Thiessen has made a commitment already for college. One claims "to the WCHA of the NCAA". Just going by the Herald article that might bode well for UND as that article mentioned UND and Cornell as being in the running. However, one might also assume other teams are in the running that the Herald wasn't aware of. And the rumors could very well be false. It will be interesting to watch it play out.

I wasn't trying to pick on you. It seems that's widely used around here. That was a general memo. Not that I'm great with spelling or use of the english language. But like "borrow" vs "lend", the "pre-madonna" usage was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I don't think it's racism either. I think it's one of these: commercialism, fanism, funism, UNDism....

Unless you are just playing a joke on me, can we start using "prima donna" from now on?
-
Thiessen's saves % is in the top 2 or 3 in the BCHL of goaltenders who've faced a decent workload. Interesting that Cheverie, whom I was getting excited about before he committed to Denver, has dropped WAY off. Maybe after the commitment he's lost his edge.

Tomahawk Hatchets? Give me a break. You can't even use "Hatchets" as a nickname now. Good grief.

Hennessey says Smaby and Zajac were big players tonite. Hak says both teams played better tonite. Hak said Harvard scored their second goal due to the youth of the Sioux, they were caught standing around a little bit and Harvard squeezed one through. Hak says Jordy was excellent, several very big saves. Says the Sioux took a big step back last night, maybe not all the way back tonite, but a good step forward. Put Spirko, Stafford, Zajac back together and counted on them to make plays, and they did. Felt the Sioux had a lot of good "second efforts" tonite that paid off for them, specifically Stafford and Spirko's goals. Smaby had a great game tonite. Recently had a few down games but has rebounded from that. Stafford maybe played the best 120 minutes of hockey of the year this weekend.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm enjoying listening to Lotyz tonite. "A beautiful saucer pass....You coulda had a cat lick milk out of that one!"

No problem. Sometimes I can be a bit slow.

I think you missed the implied . Or else I missed yours.

You were there and I only listened to 2 periods on the radio. I think you are full of baloney.

For a prestigious tournament like the WJC's, it's a great opportunity for the players. No one likes to give up talented players for something like this, but it's too great of an opportunity for the players to hold them back. Better to recruit the best kids, and let them play if they are selected. It's a feather in the cap of the program that your players are selected for the WJ team, even if it creates a bit of a hardship.
-
I have not seen anyone connected with the program use youth as an excuse. In fact, from day 1 Hak has refused to talk about how young the team is.

(psssst.....it's "prima donna") Old Barn Guy, I appreciate your optimism. And while there's some truth to what you say, I'm going with the coach who apparently was very upset with the overall effort of some players. jk, I'm not sure who he'd put on the ice, unless you mean to have him sit a few guys and go with a short bench. I guess that wouldn't be such a bad idea when I think about it. They've got an extra day to rest up for AA...

Exactly. As much as I would like to say the team was shorthanded, I hate to think that we lost to Harvard because we were short several freshmen. It is probably true that made the difference in a 1-0 game last night. However, it probably SHOULDN'T be the issue at all.
-
Herald It's really too bad the team is shorthanded this weekend, as I'm sure Hak would like to sit a few butts down for tonite's game. I would bet we'll see Foyt tonite.

Second period over. No score. Sioux outshot 15-13.

Harvard outshooting the Sioux 14-13 at this point.
