  1. USD is a difficult team to figure out. They obviously played well in Grand Forks last weekend, but somehow lost last night at Houston Baptist, which has an RPI of 330!

I think that USD team really lives and dies by the jump shot. Last night they must have died by it.

  2. It's really quite inexplicable that Jones didn't sign a true point guard, at least from the high school ranks, until last month. He was hired in June of 2006, and signed his first true point guard in November of 2009. ???

I don't really even need to post here anymore because you pretty much say everything that I'm thinking. There is no true point guard on this team, and sadly, the best ball handler might be Mertens and he's like a bull in a China shop.

  3. I will once again throw out the name that I pushed for before Jones was hired: Craig Smith. I was at the game tonight, and I can assure you that the Sioux played with no emotion, no hustle, no heart, and worst of all, no pride. With the embarrassment of losing to Mayville State hanging over their heads the entire night, they did nothing to stop it.

  4. Comparing Dr. Ego's mansion with the building of the Ralph Engelstad Arena leaves you with little or no credibility.

    You missed this bit:

That adds up to $188,000 over if you are going to include furniture in a construction budget for the schools - seems odd to include furniture in a construction budget though.

In UND's case, does "university funds" mean that the additional costs were paid for with tax money or did the writer mangle the story and actually mean "university foundation" funds? Anyway, if I recall correctly, UND didn't have a 500-year flood halt construction so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

I wonder why the legislature capped spending at all on a privately-funded project that cost 1/100th as much as a hockey arena? I mean, the Ralph went more than $60 million over budget and I think the only criticism of UND's President wasn't that he didn't show enough gratitude.

Oh well, I have a feeling star2city's fondest wish is to see President Chapman fired - maybe this will help.

  5. Anybody with updated information on which players accepted invites to this event? Last year it was only Osh and Porter at the autograph signing.

I can't answer your question directly, but I can add this to the discussion: there is a similar golf/hockey tournament being held in Faribault Thursday and Friday. I've seen the celebrity list for that event and it lists many of the same players as confirmed attendees. Something doesn't quite add up.

  6. I read in the Herald today that a Lakota band from SD was scheduled to play at the Fritz but cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Huh? So many peolple on this site have said they would like to educate themselves more about Dakota/Lakota culture and a native entertainment group comes to GF and no one wants to see them! Just goes to prove my point that 99% of name supporters don't give a damn about NA's or Native culture. And you all know thats the truth. All they are concerned about is thier precious logo/nickname. People of Standing Rock, take note of this. Me and my family were in GF today and we were in Target shopping. When we got to the checkout we were the 3rd in line. The check out girl was this bubbly person who struck up a conversation with the 2 customers ahead of us, both caucasions. When it was our turn all she said was "hi" and "did you find everything". That was it. Thats how it is for Natives in towns like DL and GF. You stay classy GF!!

This same band has canceled their Thursday concert in Fargo. Does that mean that the Bison nickname has to go as well?

  7. I'm watching Ben Jacobson's UNI team give Purdue all they can handle. UNI returns basically their entire team next year, so when they come to town it will likely be the second-best team we've ever hosted (after Kansas).

Watched it too. The 12 point halftime deficit proved to be just a little too much. They battled hard to get it down to 4 but just couldn't get over the hump. How great was it to watch Jake calmly working the sideline?

  8. While I believe we probably should be a little better than we are right now, nearly all of the players who are actually playing this year are juniors and seniors, meaning not only will they not be around much longer, they weren't really recruited to be dI players. I would expect to see improvement next year when we add this year's red-shirt class, plus Chris Clausen and perhaps the Schuler kid if he doesn't red-shirt, to the mix. If we don't see some reason for optimism this time next year, I'll be surprised and a bit disappointed.

    Well said.

  9. Kevin Fee blog

That seems to be a sharp contrast to what Summit commish Douple said on the radio today. Perhaps that was why he was so squirmish when pressed on the issue.

What schools have nickname controversies like UND? Every other school has either made a deal with their namesake tribes, or has changed their name?

IMO, Taylor is losing credibility fast. I recieved an email from him today in reply to a question I asked, and he told me the exact opposite.

What did you ask Taylor and what was his reply? I'm curious because somebody's story doesn't add up. Either Douple is lying or Taylor is.

  10. I'm glad Genoway is doing so well in Finland.

He seemed to excel in the AHL and never really got a shot at the NHL level.

I'm curious about salary though. I wonder if he gets paid more in Finland than in the AHL?

He's making more money and playing far less games.

  11. Come on we're not a bunch of ignoramous'. The tribe flag hangs on almost all entities on the rez. You should come to the rez sometime you'll find out.

Recently, enrolled members of Standing Rock and Spirit Lake asked REA if they would display the flags. REA said "yes". On Sunday, be sure to get out to The Ralph as there is going to be a very large contingent from both reservations on hand for the ceremony. It should be awesome and educational!

  12. Celebrity College Flashback - www.usnews.com

I have to admit that Chuck has done well for himself. If you told me that Chuck would become a pop-culture demigod back when I was an undergrad I would have laughed at you.

He is the only person I know who has been publicly threatened(?) by Metallica. He wrote a less than flattering editorial on one of their album releases which led to one of the band members stating (and I paraphrase)..."someone needs to kick Chuck's a$$."

I was living in Fargo at the time and when I heard the statement on the radio I thought...some metalhead is going to kick Chuck's a$$.

    ???

We (my buddies and I) could always tell how good a party would be by the level of Chuck's intoxication when we arrived.

    Good memories...

I remember Chuck having the same effect on Steve McAndrew. Steve was a Sioux BB player in the early 90's. Chuck worked at the UND newspaper and didn't think much of Steve's ability. And he wrote about it. I clearly remember Steve saying he was going to "kick Chuck's a$$".

  13. Time will tell won't it.

Let me get this straight. If what is being rumored ends up being true, this somehow vindicates your attacks on an 18 year old kid that hasn't even stepped on campus yet? And your actions are justified because he's going to play a sport at UND? What the hell is wrong with you?

  14. It doesn't help that the herald and the media in GF do a terrible job in regards to having any stories that are negative in regards to Sioux athletics. Any time any athlete involved in Bison athletics gets into trouble, it's big time news. The Jordan May news is over 2 weeks old, it's just no one has actually taken the time to report the story.

Do you have any clue what you're talking about? Without access to Jordan May's high school transcripts, how is it that anyone is supposed to "report" on this story? If UND hasn't released it, is the media supposed to run with rumors from an internet website? Unreal.

  15. I've been listening to and reading Reusse for 20 years. His comparison of the Gophers to the Yankees is in no way a compliment. It has nothing to do with championships, and has everything to do with all the advantages the Gophers have, the money, the TV contract, etc...Reusse takes every advantage at taking a swipe at that program, and he's always 100% accurate.
