  1. Go for it 0303! I'm sitting here right now reading SiouxSports and I'm have a dish of Schwan's ice cream, and Mr. Siouxmama is having a slice of pecan pie also from Schwan's. YUM!!

Ugh how I love their grasshopper pie....I love their ice cream...my grandma shoulda took stock out on that company we had so much of their ice cream growing up going to her house after school...aah memories.

Unfortunately my own mother cant even ship our christmas gifts up here...stupid postage, stupid duty, stupid trade agreements and barriers....but it surely does sound heavenly! ???

Actually could ya'll send me milk in plastic jugs, thats what I really miss these days...these tree hugging CanadiEns believe in plastic bags and it drives me nuts! How can the milk taking on your other aromas in the fridge and still taste normal...guess what it doesnt!!! Uggghhhh....thank the lord they still believe in cardboard cartons...

    End rant

Note: My husband is a semi tree hugger...he doesnt mind if I make fun of him. Any other tree huggers that get offended should take after him and note that my comments are entirely tongue-in-cheek (and I only feel the need to add this disclaimer because an awful lot of people are getting offended on this forum lately!!)

Oh and MafiaMan, he LOVED the Canadiens jersey!! His best man and one of the other CanadiEn groomsman noted that it was a very good gift and that they might not get something like that from their girlfriends...I scored mucho points! I did the puck bunny thing again for Halloween this year but with the new jersey as my Sioux jersey is in NoDak. The new jersey made it easy to wear slutty hooker red shoes too! :silly:

  2. City and state where you were born and where you live now: Minot North Dakota, North Bay Ontario Canada

Did you attend UND? Yes 2000-2004, BA Psychology

Favorite current Sioux hockey player: Kaip, Kozek, Oshie

Favorite all time Sioux player(s): Panzer brothers, Hoooogsteeens, Ryan Hale, Mike Commodore, and Andy Schneider

Favorite all time non-Sioux WCHA player and team: Matt Carle, Duluth

Are you a season ticket holder? No, I was a band geek so I always had a seat at the Ralph! My parents have tickets though.

  3. My dad went in to help a friend and customer of the company he works for and he said the coverage on the news and the photos do no justice for the widespread damage. The friend's buildings are totally gone and it sounds like they'll be razing the house and starting over. My dad said he spent the day walking the yard, picking up garbage...so much devastation.

During the flood, this guy was a customer of the company and became a friend of our family when he helped us move our stuff out before the water was in our neighborhood and then stored it all in his storage areas for the summer while we rebuilt. Wonderful man, now lost almost everything. So very very sad.

  4. Did you just use your jersey, skirt, heels, heavy makeup, and enormous wig from your puck bunny days in college on Halloween?

Back to the subject, I don't know if they were UND students, but I certainly wouldn't expect to run into UND jerseys being worn at the Bloomington Jefferson hockey practices at the Bloomington Ice Gardens after last season's sweep at Mariucci. One of their coaches (I believe it was of one of the squirt programs) was proudly donning his jersey on Sunday morning. I also had a bet with my son's Kennedy mite coaches and both of them ran Sunday's practices wearing my green and white jerseys. Good times!

Haha...my puck bunny days in college never came to pass as I was one of the band geeks in the upper corner of the Ralph! :D

As a broke Masters student, I needed a cheap costume, so I just used what I had in my closet, and bought a big curly blond wig. I carried a sign too with stupid crap like "D-men can body-check me anytime" and "I heart Crosby"..yada yada...it was quite ridiculous which made it all the more hilarious.

I think next year I'm going as a band geek, I just have to find my marching shoes....

  5. When my brother and I were little (I was about 8, he was 5), we were playing in my grandma's driveway while mom was talking to grandma in the house. Mom's car was running and my brother got in the car and put it into drive, he figured it was a race car and he was going to race. I was in front of the car as it started to roll forward...I got out just in time but the car hit the garage door. I was lucky I didnt get hit.

So parents dont leave the car running and if you do, make sure its locked or your kids know NOT to play in the car.

  6. If all else fails, there's always stripping ....

    /runs

Thats the new thing me and my fellow MA grads are saying now that we are broke as hell and we need to find "real" jobs... :D

  7. Thanks for your guys' input.....

    1) I don't think I'd be a very good bus driver...

    2) I can't donate blood or plasma because I don't weigh enough...

    3) PRACS turned me away! Seriously, who does that?!

I may just have to go back to the hotel business lol

You dont want to do PRACS anyway....my brother did it and had to pay in a buttload on his taxes that year (for 20 years old, any kind of pay-in to the govt is a lot). Yeah its good temp money but you pay for it later anyway.

Try one of the greenhouses or construction. For construction, you get paid 10 bucks or more an hour just to hold up their flags and be outside. Greenhouses are fun places to work too, but its not easy work either.

  8. Thanks for the alternative perspective. Don't really care though. He's a monster. I don't care what made him do it. All that matters is that he did.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cho was deemed a black eye to the Asian American community.

According to KFAN, Cho's parents were considering moving back to Korea but even Korea doesn't want them back. THAT fact is sad. Harming or harrassing Cho's parents isn't going to prove anything. They didn't kill 33 people. They didn't encourage Cho's behavior, to my knowledge. Leave them out of it.

If you dont care what made him do it, then how do you expect to prevent it in the future??? :D

  9. I noticed the Canucks jerseys at the beginning of the game and was confused because their other jerseys don't look that bad. And my god is this game like watching a badgers game at the end of this year! I don't pay attention for awhile and look up to find that I missed nothing.

The CanadiEn just told me that is their original logo or something. It needs to go away. Though he also said the Canucks have never really had a decent jersey.

  10. I don't even think it's that easy to figure out.

Most of the people I grew up with that I still communicate with said that their first time with alcohol was due to the influence of friends, not parents. I think everyone here went to high school knowing at least one person they'd classify as "stupid." However, in the context of what we're talking about, how many high schoolers can identify a friend that is truly "stupid" in this way? I seem to recall not many people wanting to hang out with the "idiots." So, it is natural to exclude your friends when you think about the crowd you hang with.

My best friend's father is an alcoholic. This means alcohol has been around the house his entire life. He's not "dry" by any means, but he certainly isn't the kind that goes out for a drink every Friday. In fact, he rarely drinks alochol at all.

I think there are MANY reasons why kids drink. Most of the reasons are infantile at best. Sure, I'm aware that most of the time drinking doesn't cause any problems regardless of age (within reason). However, the justification for doing so has never been so meaningless.

I do think Toews got way jumped on for this, especially from the country and culture that he comes from, I will agree with Sioux Hab-It on that point. However, being a CanadiEn doesnt excuse his behavior in the States, and if you're caught, you face the consequences. If I'm speeding down the 401 and forgot to convert mph into km, the OPP isnt going to let me off because I'm an American in Canada. Ignorance or disregard of the law is not an excuse and should not lessen the consequences. Hopefully he'll learn from it and not get caught next time. He isnt the first and wont be the last to be busted in a bar

RW77 Having worked with youth and at-risk juveniles for the last 3 years I have encountered four kinds of kids and how/why they'll use or abuse drugs and alcohol

The party kids--considered socially accepted for whatever reason. Can handle it or spiral out of control. Can lead to abuse and dependence, can also influence their already ridiculous levels of impulsivity

The pressured kids--dont want to, get sucked in by the group. Again, increases impulsive behaviors that can cause problems.

The dependent--use and abuse to cover up their problems and likely have alcoholic parents and chaotic home life.

The non-user--doesnt touch it, might later when its legal. May also have alcoholic parents and work hard to avoid that path.

Bottom line like some have said...if you can save one by a speech, fantastic. But most wont listen and its one of those things that parents need to educate their own children, set expectations boundaries and values early and its one of those things that impulsive identity seeking adolescents/young people need to figure out on their own

    Taking off my Skinner hat...

  11. I am glad that the cheerleaders won't be gone, never bothered me, and i have enjoyed them from time to time. I remember being super surprised the first time i saw one do a somewhat figure skating like move through the center one night.

As for the band and whatnot, I think they should be moved back up to the upper deck. Give students back those seats, and go back away from season tickets. Thats what made the lower deck rowdy before, the diehards would wait in line for hours before every game to get lower deck. It's too easy for people who don't deserve the tickets to get lower bowl season tickets now.

Either way, I'm graduating in may, so I won't be directly affected :(

I dont understand why people continue to say "give the seats back to the students" when it is in fact STUDENTS in the band, occupying those seats. Its not like the Ralph hired out the GF City Band to play at the games...those are students in those seats. ;):( The only difference between those students and the rest of the student section is that the band has instruments and they are working a helluva lot harder than some of the other fans in the arena to bring spirit and energy to the crowd and the atmosphere of the game.
