  1. Just about 16,000 there for the play in. Great turnout by Sioux fans, you have to think many more will show up tonight and tomorrow. Not too many gopher fans that I saw, but some might have been incognito.

That was me! Just didn't feel like getting any grief. Just going in "College Hockey Fan" mode this weekend! I might mix in a Gopher sweatshirt tomorrow and see what happens. :D

  2. Well if the league was worried about losing money without the Gophers there I would think they can rest easy, I thought it was a pretty packed house last night? Heck of a game to start the Final Five, it's ashame UMD seemed to give up at the end there, could have seen that game going to OT....or a few!

  3. Is there a timeline when the incoming recruits have to commit? Seems kinda late in the year to still not know.

I just realized that too, not sure what is really going on with this guy.

On a sad note, Maturi is on with Bareiro on KFAN right now saying John Hill will be back next season as Gopher assistant. Great, more "encouraging" of players. Next season is ALREADY getting off to a bad start. :glare:

  4. A Canadian? :glare: NO WAY!! :ohmy::lol:

Last I heard and that was a few weeks ago, the at kid hasn't committed anywhere yet. A guy in Ohio was telling me that his team (one of the Michigan teams, I forget which one) was also recruiting him.

Yeah, we're finally getting smart and recruiting outside the borders more. :D Hammy said it's pretty much between the Gophers and Michigan Wolverines.

Rumor is that Kangas is going to bolt this off-season. I could have seen Patterson jumping ship too the way Lucia snubbed him this year, not giving him much of a chance of playing and proving himself. Gonna be an interesting off-season if Gopher land with player departures, possible coaching changes.

  5. Yeah, I could see Hill doing it. I wouldn't be surprised to see the University ask Lucia to change one or both of his assistants.

Agreed. Yeah, I think they will probably make Don find some new assistants. Hill going is fine by me, I'll jump for joy the day they boot him out the door. Potulny on the other hand is a tough one, I really like the thought of him as a coach at Minnesota but he just doesn't have the experience to coach at this level yet. If he does go I sure hope he comes back down the road though.

  6. Ask Wehrs :)

Sidenote: Someone told me that tDon refused to shake hands with Hexy after the game...heard him say "I'm not shaking YOUR hand".

WOW, if thats accurate then it just goes to show how thin-skinned this Gopher program has become. I could possibly see him not shaking hands with Frattin as upset as Lucia was but why Hextall? I know he's good at talking smack but geez. Pretty unprofessional on Dons part as well......if it indeed did happen.

  7. I could be wrong, but I believe that FSN will be covering all the games regardless that the goofs are not there. They have a contract to cover all these gaems year after year. So it should be on TV.

Correct, FSN will be covering ALL the Final Five games this week-weekend.

  8. I see the official pre game party Thursday before the game is at Wild Tymes in St. Paul a few hours before the game. Is the same place as in past years? Is this the place to be? This will be my first Final Five so looking for the places to be. I assume it will be pretty crowded there but just wanted to see what the best pregame places to be are. Thanks!

McGoverns and Tom Reids are pretty good as well, closer to the "X" and always has a good crowd of hockey fans pre and post game.

For those of you that have joined us before on here GPL is having a tailgate behind the Dairy Queen on Saturday again, it's usually a pretty good time. Good mix of team fans show up.

  9. I'd love to see a grind it out close game tonight, just like what we hope we'd see when these two teams get together. Just hope the Gophers can play two solid games in a row, their inconsistency tells me no but it's do or die for them tonight. Key for the Gophers will be to get on the board first tonight.

  10. Guessing Fienhage sits. Gleason will do better against the forecheck.

    How the Sioux win:

    Stay out of the box

    Handle the Gopher forecheck

Make fewer mistakes than the Gophers

Score more goals then the Gophers!

    How the Gophs win:

Take the crowd out of it

    Handle the Sioux physical play

Force turnovers off the forecheck by pressuring the Sioux dmen

Score more goals then the Sioux!

    Fixed your post! :D

Sorry, my attempt at a little pre-game humor! :glare:

  11. He will be talking allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll night to get into the gophs heads too

I would imagine, he's pretty good at getting into opposing teams heads. If there is one player in the WCHA I would like to sit and have a beer with sometime he would be the one. Just seems like a fun guy, and I'm sure some of the stories he has about his old man are pretty awesome too.

  12. This is the WCHA, anything is possible...but I hope we kick azz next week!!

Well that is true, just don't think the Gophers have it in them this year to carry out 2 big wins to a team like the Sioux.....but as you said this is the WCHA, anything can happen.
