  1. I noticed that rep hit FHG...sure now you can laugh... :D

I mean I don't like DU just because they have given the Gophers fits for so many years.......but I don't wish that much ill will towards them! :) Although it's not like we'll be playing them that much anymore with the move to the B1GJOKE Conference.

  2. It wasn't the last time they were meeting for the next 3 -4 years. If we were number one rival, why haven't they ever moved this game to the target center like they have the badger game.

I can't remember why but Mariucci had something else going on that weekend which was why they had to move that game to Target Center. Target Center stinks for hockey so it was not moved there because of rivalry purposes.....they basically had to settle for it.

  3. I find it funny that Mariucci is posting here when his team isn't playing UND this weekend. So who is the biggest rival?

It's a thread about the Gophers.......started by a UND fan on a UND board. Sooooooo why shouldn't he? And I don't think many Gopher fans would argue that UND is the biggest rival.

  4. Heck of a game tonight, just the kind you hope for when these two teams meet. Really thought UND was going to bang one in in OT there, they had some really nice chances.

It's a shame to see this rivalry take a break but I'm sure there will be some pretty epic battles in the Regionals and maybe Frozen Fours in the next few years to keep the fires burning. :)

  5. Sure sounded like one on PA's show a year or so ago with some comments he made. Pretty sure he got booted from calling for a little while.

I've never called into PA's show, so not sure what you are talking about there. You MAY be thinking of Drunk Hockey Guy.

  6. This is NOT true, I have a relative in the scheduling dept and UND was their first choice and got it. Nice try d-bag...

According to my UMD source the Gophers were the first team picked to open the new Amsoil, it sounds like Sandelin wanted UND for obvious reasons but the school itself wanted the Gophers. I'll refrain from calilng you a name though. :)

  7. yep I think it is telling of who Bemidji and Duluth wanted to play as they opened up their new buildings a couple years back, it sure wasn't the "big brother" looking out for them in minneapolis.

Actually UMD wanted to play the Gophers to open Amsoil but the Gophers had the Classic already scheduled. So they had to settle for UND. ;)

  8. Looks like the NCHC next season is going to be tough if you look at how the teams are doing this year:

    NCHC

    Miami 11-3-4 (#5)

    W Mich 11-4-1 (#8)

    UND 10-5-3 (#7)

    UNO 11-6-1 (#12)

    SCSU 11-7-0 (#16)

    DU 9-6-3 (#14)

    UMD 7-8-3

    CC 8-10-2

    BTHC

    Minnesota 11-3-3 (#4)

    Ohio St 7-6-5

    Penn St 7-8-0

    Michigan 6-9-2

    Wisconsin 4-7-5

    Mich State 5-10-2

    BTHC looks like a joke.

Is it really worth moving teams to new conferences and breaking up rivalries all because the Big Ten wants to suck up whatever money they can get.

It is, to go from the greatest hockey conference in the country to the worst, just plain sucks! Just like everything else it's all about the mighty $$$$. Bright side is, I'll personally save alot of money by not having to make as many roadtrips anymore......cause the only place I have any desire to go to is Yost.

  9. Nobody faults UMN for playing the other Minnesota schools first. We'll be playing games annually against many of them too. It's the multi-year agreements with Hockey East teams that irk people.

But UND fans always seem to point out how the Gophers will not play or travel to the East coast teams, so how can it "irk" people? I for one love playing UND and am pretty bummed that we won't be playing them, until 2017 is what I heard or read a few weeks ago somewhere, I just think Lucia wants a cooling down period between the teams. I would imagine, and hope, there will be some tournament match-up between two in the next few years though, so that should keep the fires burning just enough hopefully. :)

  10. So I was never able to afford to go in the past but I'm heading there this year. Come heck or high water

I've got a couple questions for those that have gone.

I put down the reservation through ticketmaster for $75 a seat a while ago and today they called me to select my seats. Never been to the x.

    The gave me two options

Upper deck ends of exel for $80 total ($5 more per seat)

Lower level corners or the club level for $165 total ($90 more per seat)

    1) anybody know what section you are in yet? Where is the best area for other SIOUX fans.

    2) Is it worth it for the lower level?

Darn that's spendy but I can't wait. I will always regret not going to last years.

I was planning on going to the series @marriuci cupcake palace but this might eat all of my road trip budget for the year.

Personally I think club is the way to go, the view of the game up there is pretty awesome IMO. Lower level is a better option if you want the real "fan" experience with the rowdy crowds and whatnot. I'd stay away from the upper level, I think you're too far away from the good action way up there, plus as was said before it can be a ghost town up there at times. Either way you'll have a great time, Final Five has always been one of the funnest weekends of the year as a college hockey fan, the whole town is full of college hockey rubes the whole weekend.

  11. Wow, really? I'm surprised. Kristo should have had a game suspension for his hit during the gopher series, then. But maybe the league is cracking down, which would be a good thing.

I think that is exactly what we are seeing here, it's starting with Rau and will be the new trend to hopefully get these hits to stop.

  12. They are no longer the Sioux, so that shouldn't be an issue.

For now, but lets face it, the issue is not over yet and you guys know it. If I'm not mistaken the tribes are sueing the NCAA, not? The issue could go on for some time still.

  13. He didn't go after Rau, He went after Ambroz, and yes the coaches should have used judgement after the altercation. I saw how angry Blood was, did Hakstol not see the same?

WHAT? The video pretty much shows he went after Rau......I missed the end and saw the replay but I'm pretty sure it was Rau he hit?

  14. We'll see how it plays out. I will bet you it will be because of the gophers that it doesn't take place, unless they expect it to be in their barn every year. I'll say it again why are you scheduling long-term agreements with one team when you want to keep your fanbase happy and play regional rivals like St. Cloud, Duluth, Mankato, North Dakota, etc. Lucia has frequently left the name North Dakota out of his conversation when talking about the need to come up with scheduling agreements. Proof will be in the pudding I guess, but if it doesn't happen, you need not look any further than the coach the everybody was wanting fired a year ago.

Pretty sure alot of the schedule has to do with UND and the whole nickname issue. Pretty sure Minnesota will not play UND if the Sioux name does stick around. Obviously they play now because they are conference opponents, but that will change when the Gopher go to the BigJOKE Conference.

  15. This series marks the first time in a LONG time that UND goes into this series as the underdog. I like coming in under the radar. Gopher fans haven't had a lot to cheer for in the past what, 5 years or so, so I don't blame some of their fanbase for being so excited about their start. Remember though, gopher fans, banners aren't hung in October. I think these 2 teams are closer than the current records indicate. UMN-TC has played some bad competition, but dispatched of them quite easily, and UND has outplayed teams at times, and lost. I wish I could make it this year, but it wasn't in the cards, those of you who are there, cheer loud!

We know that, we're not SCSU fans :) . But the fact that this team is doing pretty well so far for being so young is pretty promising. The "D" still needs some work but with Guentzel back (I'm still jumping up and down that Hill is finally gone) things can only get better as the season goes along in that aspect as well. No one is looking past UND though, that is for sure, but like you said this is the first year in probably 3-4 years where things have actually been looking up!

  16. Should be another great Sioux vs Gopher series. I think the Gophers are the better team "right now" but that by no means makes me think the Gophers will run the Sioux out of the cities, when these two teams play "the record books can be thrown out the window". Have not really seen the Sioux in action much, did catch the Friday night game vs UW last Friday. Just hoping this deal with DirecTV gets solved so the games I'll be able to catch the games from the local watering hole.

Just a little warning for those coming to the cities for the games, the streets by Sally's and Stub and Herbs are all tore up for the light rail so traffic getting in and out is pretty hectic.

  17. I think people who are against the Big Ten hockey conference are being very short sighted. Having the Big Ten brand associated with college hockey automatically raises the profile of the sport. Minnesota is a Big ten University. Why should we playing Bemidji, Mankato, Nebraska, and Alaska mulitiple times per season but not Michigan and Michigan State? The WCHA is watered down now.

The Gophers have not exactly been lighting any of those teams up lately, can hardly call it watered down. I'd much rather play them then PSU, OSU. The Big 10 is all about basketball and football, could give two rips about hockey. I hope the formation of this conference changes things but I have alot of doubts.

  18. Congrats to the Bulldogs for sure. I did read, however, that only 200 fans showed up at Amsoil arena to congratulate the team. Are you kidding me!? Those guys deserve better than that after winning the first title ever for their program.

Most fans might not have been ok to drive yet (boozing) after the previous nights celebration to make it back to Amsoil!

Congrats to UMD, was a great game and was great to see all the awesome UMD fans I've met over the years be able to celebrate their first title.
