so we aren't lacking for funds to be competitive in FB....day by day........

Read my post closer - I didn't say anything about not lacking $ or any reference to REA.

Regarding my source - I really can't do that.  Therefore, it is up to you whether you believe me or not!  For those that know me, you are welcome to PM me.

Is that the best strategy when our athletics programs are failing and we are seeing massive inflation in construction, while we are also struggling to finance facilities improvements?  With the delay in starting construction on phase2 of the HPC, inflation/increased construction costs essentially just ate up that fund within the last year alone.  Not the best strategy if that is actually the plan, especially when UND can't technically finance facilities or facilities improvements, and the Ralph currently can.  I don't think that is actually the plan, though, as the Ralph is generating enough cash flow annually to pay for any needed maintenance and repairs.  Maybe some of it will be used for larger priced maintenance items, but it seems to be used mostly for arena enhancements, such as the new scoreboard, (where UND will only get 1/3 of the new ad sales it generates).

How do you start building Phase II when you don't have the funds to do so?  The State Board of HE isn't going to approve the start of construction until the necessary funds are in the bank or pledged. We aren't there yet!! Funds from the Ralph aren't going to be used for Phase II.

Personally, I don't think Bubba is going to go anywhere until the high dollar donors start demanding a change in the status quo. It's obvious, the school is okay with the football team being competitive. Code word for mediocre. Personally, as an Alum, I am tired of losing to SDSU and NDSU in football. I want to see UND play for an NCAA title in Frisco. Moreover, I am also tired of the basketball teams not challenging for a conference title in the Summit Conference. It is what it is.

I absolutely agree with your frustrations with continually losing to the SUs but I am not sure that there are any real high dollars FB donors!

The firing of Todd Lee at South Dakota there are some references to Bruns in their forums there may have been may have been some questionable recruiting  for Bruns. This may be just talk but i did see where we had both offers to Bruns younger brother also.  Now we have McGrath transferring a redshirt freshman after consuming scholarship for us this past year and saving his eligibility to develop him and get him ready when we were playing short handed most second half of the year needing additional front court help doesn't make much since. This is just getting messier and messier as it goes along here with this whole program. The worst is silence from UND and even our local media there are hardly any coverage on what's happening or explanations for why we are loosing some our best recruits year in and year out. Does anybody know what going on it always seems there's group around Grand Forks that knows what going on but rest of us left to guessing and just accept what's happening when they choose communicate to world if ever. I just don't see how they are going to build a fan following without getting the fans involved in the program.

You may ask “well, why did we recruit him then?” after reading my comments.  That would be a very good question!!

I don’t think the BB coaching staff is losing any sleep over McGrath leaving. In fact, I bet they are happy to have another scholarship available. I also think that McGrath may realize he is in over his head trying to play D1 ball.  We will know if I am right 2-3 years from now!

Anyone else see the problem here? 100K more than what UND pays now would still be a middle of the road mid-major salary.

The problem is that you can't spend money you don't have!

Has admin and the AD given Bubba the “infrastructure” he needs? Scholarships, facilities, salary, and help with discipline? Not having someone video answers that….

Yes, there are coaching issues but it is not just coaching, IMHO.

I don't disagree but where do you find the $ for those improvements?  This is exactly why I run the Let's Help Bubba fundraising every year.  There is not enough to do all that we fans (and the athletic department) would like.  $10-12K isn't much, but it helps!

Someone will likely respond that we shouldn't have moved up to DI if we couldn't afford it.  That may be true but it is not worth rehashing - "water under the bridge"!!

You can't have it both ways. When you unexpectedly lose an all-Summit league player, the Summit league ROY, a starter plus the previous year's Summit ROY all to the portal, you don't get to complain about "how many legitimate players are on this roster" and in the same breath say that the portal is just an excuse. It is an absolute fact, that without the portal there would be quite a few more "D1 players" and some pretty damn good ones that have proven themselves at this level already.

I haven't heard Sather complain a single time about the hand he was dealt. This roster looks incredibly different with at minimum Rebraca and Ihenacho on it. You don't magically replace unexpected losses just like that. Don't think its a stretch to say some of the biggest weaknesses in this year's team are a solid post game and a steady PG.

No one is happy about the results. No one is saying they are the expectation or that they are acceptable.
But logical people can look at what the coach has done previously and when he has had even a portion of the talent needed to compete.
It is his job to build the roster back up. Sending him packing isn't going to do much of anything but reset the cycle (unless there is some wizard out there who somehow knows exactly what combination of transfers and JuCos would skip a few years).

    Well said!!!

Mosiouxfan  i can agree somewhat with that rational but i just went through SDSU stats on their team They have four Freshman on the team lead by outstanding Myer who has played in all games with 25 minute average, Timmer who has played in all but one game and has 18 minute average, Vlastuin who has played in 24 games and 9..8 minute average, and then there last freshman Byom who has played in 22 games and 6 minutes a game. I found this impressive that these freshman had gotten that much playing time. Now i look at UND freshman this year Anderson who leads freshman class has played in 17 games and 11.2 minutes per game, McCarthy who has played in 16 games and averages 4.3 minutes per game, Sieben who has played in 11 games and 2.8 minutes a game, E. Land who has played in 10 games and 2.3 minutes per game. This quite difference between the freshman classes and i believe will be advantage for next year. Yes i do know that Myer and Timmer are exceptional athletes. But even there least played freshman for SDSU has more minutes played than McCarthy, Sieben, and E. Lane combine in playing time for this year. The point i am trying to make practice does develop players but there is more to learning basketball than practicing and it is just playing time in real game conditions. The next point is we have four talented players coming in next year by all accounts i am hoping by next year at this time they are becoming major contributors to the team. If we are going to reach next level we will need to develop these players quickly to go along with our proven talent developed.  I have even heard Mallory say on radio she has tendency to play players to many minutes durning games and it does have effect longterm on their level of play. Finally i am not picking on Berhard because i think she like this team are better than last year and i know she is learning becoming a better coach like playing nothing like experience makes you better especially if keep you keep studying and learning from what your counter parts are doing.

Even though you are talking about minutes, this is an "apples & oranges" average comparison.

SDSU has a winning margin of 15+ points per game including 10 wins by 20 points or more.  Everyone of their roster is going to get playing time under that scenario - especially if you are a talented freshman.

UND's average margin is -1.1 points per games with no wins of 20+ points (only one win of 20+ points).  That obviously means we are in close games and don't have the luxury of using our bench (which is thin in talent) nearly as much as SDSU.  Two of the four UND examples you used (Lane & Sieben) are walk-ons so they aren't likely to get as much time as others.  (I don't know if any of the SDSU freshmen are WO's.)  Our other two (Anderson & McCarthy) were not highly recruited.  They may turn into excellent players but they don't have more talent than the ladies who are getting the minutes.  I agree that both Anderson and McCarthy have looked good at times.  Anderson played more minutes earlier in the season and, I thought, played pretty well.  I am not sure why her minutes have dried up.

    Apples and Oranges!

  9. I have a large number of UND press guides (all sports) along with game programs from many big games that may have the interest of some of you.  The time frame for game programs is the mid-70's through the end of the 90's.  The press guides are from the mid-70's until they quit printing and made them available online.  Also have some other programs from games I attended over the years (DII championships, Frozen Four along with Final Four, All-Star games, WS games, etc.)  I do not have a list of what I have and, over the years, some of these have been given to former athletes in their respective sports.  Therefore, please do not ask what I have for a specific sport "in the early 80's".  I will look for specific press guides and programs when requested.  I don't have the time to go through them all to provide a list of what is available.  They should all be in excellent condition unless one was crunched a bit while in storage boxes.  I also have VCR tapes of UND/NDSU basketball and football games during these years along with most UND/UM hockey games.

Feel free to PM here or simply make your request on this thread.  I will get back to you as soon as I can - it may take a few days.  I certainly don't want to charge anything for these but we might have to figure out something.  It would be quite expensive to mail out 50-60 envelopes/packages.

From my expereices, the FB showing up and being active in the student section for basketball was a lot more under Bubba when it was under Muss.  Not saying they didn't show up to games, but not to this level of organization or energy they bring.

Without them, it would be pretty quiet (and that is a whole other issue I could spend posts and posts about when it comes to student sections at UND... even hockey is not immune to this issue)

While the guys have fun at the games (and I wish they attended more of them), you can be assured that it is/was Bubba who started it.
