Absolutely, it’s run by a bunch of delinquents.

I know a lot of people in North Dakota with $ to spend but the Champions Club and Alumni Foundation puts up their noses to them. They spend so much time trying to get the big bucks (i.e., the big time donation) from select donors, that they fail to realize there are several moderate donations all over the place that they could be capitalizing on.

I think UND athletics fundraising, beyond the hockey community, is god awful. I mean, how could you say it’s not? UND’s non-hockey sports budget is below average… not good enough to yield banners on a consistent basis, that’s for sure.

Hate to say it, but NDSU Team Makers has blown UND out of the water the past decade.

This will prove that I am an old fart but I remember when the Big Green Club annually raised twice as much as the Team Makers!

The funny thing is, in most other industries in GF, the pay for the most part is above market value in order to get good out-of-state employees to move to Grand Forks. From a UND athletics standpoint, hockey does that, but in all other non-hockey sports, it’s a*s backwards.

Football and basketball tries to recruit and retain coaching talent with pennies when they should at least be using nickels and dimes …

Fully agree but it won’t change until UND figures out how to raise more $ from FB alums (and FB fans) and the Champions Club realizes they can raise much more by simply setting some goals and using better common sense in their communication and marketing!!

At some point all this “inbreeding” needs to be closely examined by UND athletics. It’s not like UND football has been consistently doing anything great since going DI, and the head coaches have been “UND guys” in Mussman and Schweigert during that time …

UND needs to take a hard long look at guys outside the program, mainly DII head coaches with great records of success.

For years, many talented coaches have been interested in our openings (in all non-hockey sports) UNTIL they learned what we were able to pay them.  Former UND players and coaches have been willing return to GF for less $!!

Just anecdotal, but plan on more specific conversations soon. Ultimately, as I’ve said, I think the agreement with REA/Engelstad, McGarry has also been limiting. REA takes in 52% of ticket revenue - all of that just directly or indirectly goes to hockey. UND has no say in that going to football.

That might be a pretty good deal. With the limited attendance at other revenue sports, hockey probably accounts for much more than 52% of all ticket revenue!

UND received $10 million from Altru in 2012, which was the same amount that NDSU received from Sanford in 2010.

    Doesn't mean there isn't a future opportunity, but that wasn't a coincidence.

UND did get a commitment for $10M from Altru in 2012. Many do not know that it was to be paid over 10 years - $1M/year for the 10 years.
I better not provide too much info but let's just say UND has not received 10 checks.

any word on what the champions club raised for 2022?

Not nearly as much as they could/should -  a lot of growth is possible with improved focus and some hard work!

I guess I missed something what happened to Jodi Anderson from last year I didn’t see her name in the portal. She had most minutes of last years freshman and I thought she would get more time this year. I guess this how they brought in bieniewiczs late last spring.

She left school not knowing if she wanted to continue playing BB. That said, she may be playing somewhere.

Why not call it the Sioux Collective? This isn’t affiliated with the university anyways so why not.

Why pay the hockey players when no one else is yet? Pay the football players so they do not leave for FBS

You can be assured that the P5 schools are already "paying their players!

The publicity for SS wouldn't hurt either.

I don't disagree with these posts.  I will look into it but I don't think we could use the Foundations system to collect the $ (as we have done with all the previous drives).

I was wondering if anyone seen if new recruits are in for UND Women's basketball I think i have saw number of them in pictures but one i have not seen is Beal which is one of the four star recruits. They still haven't updated their roster for the new recruits for this season and i see men's basketball has updated their roster with new recruits.

It is my understanding (and I hope this info is correct) that Beal has qualified and is officially enrolled at UND. We should know for sure soon.

Why not refocus this effort toward funding an NIL collective?

I had thought about that but assumed our total would be a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed.

    Any other opinions on this?

  12. As many of you know, ss.com members have provided assistance to UND’s football program in recent years.  In seven different drives, we have provided $60,000+ for a variety of purposes:  knee & ankle braces, Guardian caps, upgraded video equipment, new jackets for cold weather games, etc.  Last year, we raised over $12,000 for OL knee braces and new practice equipment.

For now, we will put LHB8 on hold. I had hoped Phase II of the Pollack Athletic Center would have been announced by now.  If it had, we would have raised funds for something the football program needed but wasn’t included in the Phase II budget.  If the interest among ss.com members appears to be there, we will undertake this drive when the timetable for Phase II is announced.

Thanks again to the many of you who have helped our LHB efforts in the past!

where is chaves? und behind again

At least one meeting with UND boosters has taken place.  This isn't something you are going to hear much about until something tangible has been determined.

Unfortunately, NIL and other recent NCAA decisions is going to make the difference between the "haves" and "have nots" in lower and mid-DI schools even more pronounced.  I don't know which category UND will fall.  It could be the "have nots" as our (Champions Club) annual fundraising efforts do not raise enough $ yet to fully fund all athletic scholarships.  Until that happens, it is going to be a challenge!

I think decisions are still being made. He might be here for the second semester.

It appears Ndoukou will join the team for the second semester (then redshirt, I assume).  Eligibility issues have now been addressed but not soon enough for this fall.

I agree with you. This matchup does nothing for me.

It may not mean much for you but it is huge for UND football. We are continuing to expand our recruiting efforts farther south in the Midwest each year. The exposure for prospects in NE, KS, MO, western IA and throughout the country is invaluable - especially if we give them a good game!
Hopefully, the game will get the team in the right frame of mind for UNI and the rest of the season.

Lastly, the guarantee pays a lot of bills!
