The Penguins have to expose Murray, since he's the only goalie they have that can be. If I was Vegas I'd take Murray if he's not protected, they need a franchise goalie. The Kings goalie situation is interesting do they keep Quick or Bishop. If I was Vegas' GM I'd take two NHL capable starters and a prospect for their goalies.

Yes, I don't disagree with you at all here.  However, there HAS to be something in the works regarding Murray/Fleury.  Either they're going to deal Fleury and protect Murray, or they have some sort of deal worked out with Vegas to not take Murray.  I don't see any way that the Penguins expose Murray and let him get taken.

I believe I also read somewhere that GM's are trying to work with the NHL to not disclose the lists of who they protected and who they exposed to the public/fans.  That better not happen!

A lot can and will happen from now to the draft...this is going to be fun!

Can't wait to see how this shakes out.  I read this earlier and one thing I thought was "wishful thinking" on the part of Joe McDonald that the Knights take Malcolm Subban off of the Bruins hands.  Maybe he thinks that the Knights' owner and management reads all of these and he's trying to entice them into taking Subban!

I also see that nobody has them taking Murray from the Penguins, which leads me to believe that either (A) they think that the Penguins will deal Fleury before this draft and they'll protect Murray or (B) the Penguins will work some sort of deal for a draft pick or two for the Knights to stay away from their goalies.

I find in interesting that even the owners say they can't stop the players from going to the Olympics.

Agreed.  I think it's safe to say that the players want to go.  Although, in all the hubbub I haven't heard much from the NHLPA on this...it seems to be Bettmann and the owners vs. the IIHF.

Let's say the NHL doesn't go to the Olympics, but a player decides to (as Ovechkin and others have said they would).  Would that player then just not get paid (fined) from his team for the time that he's gone, and also have to pick up his own insurance and whatever other costs come with it?

Every spring, prepare yourself for the inevitable discussion as follows:

    "The big bad Bruins suck."

    "The Penguins suck worse."

"The Bruins spoked B is the best logo in all of sports."

"No way, the Penguins skating penguin is better."

    "They just copied Boston's colors."

"I don't care - Sidney Crosby is the greatest hockey captain in the history of sports."

    "Bobby Orr was the best."

    "No way.  Marc-Andre Fleury is."

The Big10 conference has not won any Nattys  1 > 0

Sorry...apparently you missed the inside joke, and the lengthy discussion in another thread with our resident Gopher-lover.  That, and I didn't add all the smileys at the end of my post to show you I was joking...

Although they have zero teams in the frozen four, the Big Ten hockey conference is probably the most prestigious conference in the country.

The Big10 conference has won 23 national championships, however the Fighting Hawks have only won 1.  On a similar note...Gophers 5 > Hawks 1.

Would be sort of funny to have Notre Dame win and then have Big Ten fans claim it as a Big Ten title next year.

It's funny you say that because I was thinking the exact same thing watching their game last night.

HA - I thought the same thing.  You KNOW DaveK and others would include that in their totals for sure.  Heck, he's already told us that the B-one-G conference has 23 national championships, or something along those lines.

Willing to play two games in Sweden and play a game in China, but won't send players to the Olympics.

The difference I see here is that the games they are going to play in Sweden and China are league games that would get played somewhere anyways, right?  Whether they're played in Vancouver, Halifax, Grand Forks, or China...they are NHL games (pre-season and regular season) that are going to get played with NHL players.  The Olympics are games that take away from the NHL season, where NHL players are leaving their teams and risking injury to play for a different team - in this case for their country.

I see both sides of the issue...I like (and want) NHL players playing in the Olympics, but I can also understand NHL owners not wanting to risk sending their players away and getting injured.

Hmm... look at who is tied for first!

After ND punches their ticket to the frozen 4 today,  I will probably be in first outright.

  10. Just able to put some thoughts together now from yesterday's game:

    • Thanks to Duluth for the great seats down low, just off Oettinger's glove hand side.
    • The atmosphere in Scheels yesterday was electric.  There may have been a couple lulls (although that's all relative), but for the most part from puck drop to the end of the game it was nuts in there.
    • UND dominated.  Plain and simple.  They deserved a better fate.
    • It was fun watching the team control the game and move the puck like they did.  Unfortunately couldn't get 1 more past Oettinger.
    • I would love to see the time of possession.  We all know about the number of shots and saves, so that all goes without saying.  But the way UND controlled the puck and cycled it down low was a thing of beauty yesterday.
    • I understand that UMD is the #2 ranked team in the country and there's a reason for that...but if you just take yesterday's performance I think BU is going to be coming out of Fargo.  The UMD/OSU game was a JV game compared to the opener.  Yes, the atmosphere in the building was night and day, but beyond that the play on the ice between the 2 games was night and day as well.

    There's more...but that's all I can muster right now.
