  1. No, they have been shut down for a while. The closest "club" is in Shelly, MN about 45 min from here.

Shelly is worth the trip, but make sure your wallet is full before you go there. I think the drinks are cheaper in the MPLS airport than at the Bear's Den... :(

  2. I listened to the whole thing. It was a pretty good interview. Hak said all his focus is on Michigan and if they wake up Saturday morning still standing they will worry about whomever they will play that night. Also talked about the freshman and mentioned Stafford as being day-to-day so nothing really new on that front. The mention of Briggs was brought up becuase they asked Hak about Jordy and said that without a doubt the goaltending advantage in this region has to be UND's. Hak said that it is pretty hard to argue with how well Briggs has played over the last couple of months.

  3. I am really surprised that Zach is only fifth on the team in penalty minutes (32 for 83 mins)? I have never seen anyone go into the corner with both arms swinging, constantly banging on the opponent, the way ZJones does. He reminds me of one of the droids in that old plastic game "Rock'em Sock'em Robots" punching away.

    I love that pic!!!!!!

  4. OK, so what are the best shuttle locations? If people are serious about the Memorial Stadium parking lot, I could be talked into it, although I'd much rather enjoy The Italian Moon before the game. Do they have a shuttle?

MafiaMan, what day are you coming up?

I don't know if the Moon has a shuttle or not. Personally, I think the better shuttle locations are Rumor's, Whitey's, Dagwood's. Southgate has been pretty late to the game recently if they even have a bus show up at all.

Personally, I was thinking about starting at Suite 49 about noon before going to cheer the Crusaders on...Then stopping back at the Suite for one or two between games. I don't know if a person is going to be able to buy a beer in the Ralph or not.

Suite 49 charged me $10 for parking one night, but gave me a $10 coupon. I imagine that might change for the Regionals as to what they do.

  5. Thomas Vanek actually has 40 some points in the NHL not the minors. While Parise is stumbeling somewhere around the 20's. You seem to know your stuff though.

Let me represent the SS.com message board in apologizing for the "behavior" of a few.

  6. I wasn't really talking about the fans, I really was referring to their Head Coach. When fans whine I agree that just part of being a fan, but when the coach takes it up with the NCAA that's really whining on a whole new level.

Direct me to proof that he was whining? You really think that he doesn't want to get the extra rest into his team before playing the winner of the UND/Michigan game the next night? I believe it is to the gophers (or the #1 seed in any case) who WANT the early game. Check the schedule. The #1 seeds all play the early game. I don't think anyone was whining about having to play the early game.

  7. Oh my good Lord! :D Take off your maroon and gold blindfold and look at reality. If the Gophers would've won the Final Five and beaten each team by 10 goals you would be saying they will breeze through the NCAA. However, they got embarassed (face it), but you "suppose" you would rather be in the Sioux's position. Admit it, your team just got rocketed into reality last weekend.

If Potulny doesn't play out of his mind and Briggs doesn't do anything different, your boys will have a difficult time against Holy Cross.

    :ohmy::D:D

  8. I suppose I'd rather be in the Sioux's position, but I think the Gophs aren't in as much trouble as people are saying. In my opinion, the goaltending wasn't THAT bad on Friday. 3 or 4 of Briggs' goals were tipped in, which means we need to work a lot harder in our defensive zone at taking the body and breaking the puck out. If the whole team can do that, the goaltending falls into place.

I didn't get a chance to watch all of the championship game, but didn't St. Cloud handily outshoot the Sioux? It looked like St. Cloud was playing very tough, and that Goepfert had his worst weekend of his life, yet the Huskies made a game out of it by the end of the 2nd period. Although I think think the Sioux are a fine team, I'm not ready to say they are the favorite to win it all (same applies to the Gophs, however).

This whole tourney is pretty wide open. If Miami gets hot, the might have a shot.. if Wisco stays hot, they have a great chance. And it looks like BU is a real contender from out east. I can't wait for this weekend to come, we should all be treated with some amazing college hockey!!!

Yes, I think a tip-in goal is the defensemen's responsibility. In a 15 goal game, no one is playing much defense.

St. Cloud outshot the Sioux 40-29. 15-8 in the 3rd period. It was 5-2 at the end of 2, and their 3rd goal isn't something I would wish on any goaltender...bounces off the glass, darn near against your back, and into the goal...an odd goal nonetheless.

What concerns me is how the Sioux laid back in the 3rd trying to hold a lead. Granted, they got it done, but I don't think they are going to hold it like that against a MN, Mich, BU or BC in a national tournament. I can't help but think that even though they didn't show it on the ice, St. Cloud had to have been mentally and emotionally drained from Friday night.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to coast through this tournament. I give odds to a team like Wisco, if they can start playing again like the did at the beginning of the year. Or even a BU who got embarrassed by none other than my favorite team last year. MN might have a chance if the FF weekend was a fluke for them. I think they might build back some confidence playing against Holy Cross, however. I do think the Sioux have made some great strides this year, and they are capable of beating anyone, but I don't think that they've beat a good team playing at their best, either. I think the Wisco game is about the best I've seen a team play against them when the Sioux have won.

Just my thoughts: Lucia loses both games on purpose in the FF so that he doesn't have to play Bemidji.

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts, and my thoughts, only. I'll be looking for 4 more wins this year just like any good Sioux fan! :D

  9. Hey.....I'm Proud that WE were associated with such a first class team like the Fighting Sioux Hockey program.

Maybe some of it will rub off.......LOL

(Does that get me a ticket?)

    BisonFanofSiouxHockey

The price is going up! :D I probably won't know until game time if I have an extra ticket or not. Sorry, man...

  10. And if Zach Parise wouldn't have left two years early we'd be looking at a repeat right now.

I hate this when someone uses this on me, so I'll use it here... :D

"If my uncle had tits, he'd be my aunt!"

  11. Does anyone have an EXTRA copy of the North Dakota State University Sioux POSTER. Priceless!

    (sorry, I could't resist)

    BisonFanofSiouxHockey

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

And you really expect to get an extra ticket?

You'd better look to your Bison compatriots after that remark! :D

  12. Honestly it is so fun to watch all this talent come together in the past month. I love seeing my FIGHTING SIOUX make a run like this almost every year. Obviously Hak knows what he's doing and how to get this team ready when it counts. Would be great to win the Broadmoor tonight and get some momentum going into regionals. In my mind this is easily the best freshman class in the country:

It seems like our freshman carry this team pointwise about 75% of the games. They have really come through when it mattered. I love seeing Duncan take that wrister. He has such a nice shot, and yes he has shot over the net a few times this year, but I will take 50 shots over the net if he can come up with goals that huge and that pretty. Kaip had a breakout game yesterday. One of the best players on the ice yesterday defensively I thought. And how great it was to finally see him score(2 goals!!!). Chorney had a fantastic game last night, as did Finley. Toews played his usual very solid and reliable self. Oshie was one of the best players on the ice every shift last night, his work ethic is the best I have ever seen at any level. Watkins and Kozek worked very hard all day yesterday, and Watkins had a beauty of an assist. It was nice to hear Woog say that when he talked to Oshie, TJ said that Watkins is probably the unsung hero of the team because he works so hard, he just has been snakebitten. Prpich had a nice game yesterday. Lee played fairly well. Zajac had a very good game I thought. Spirko also. What a game this should be tonight. We need JPar to carry us. Goaltending is essential at this part of the season(as Minny found out last night....what the heck was going on?). Good luck to all teams today, and I hope to see a good 3rd place game also. GO SIOUX!!!

Wasn't there discussion on this board about how Oshie can't skate? I guess I'm no expert, but I think the kid is hard to get off his skates, and when he does, he's back up quicker than you can say "underrated"

Loved Woog's comment about how that line has six skates moving all the time...

    GO SIOUX!

  13. The Gophs choked last night to be sure, but it's not like the boys in green are immune to gagging occasionally...

On topic. Tonights game should be fun. SCSU will no doubt go all out as long as they can, but I think the Sioux played VERY well after the opening 10 minutes yesterday and should win fairly easily. Of course I felt that way about the Gophs/SCSU game as well.

I agree! If UND can show up, I think they can win the NC. If not, it'll be a flat disappointing game that they lose in either the Regionals or FF. I just hope they show up.

One think I like about playing SCSU tonight is that they will be playing their 6th game in 9 days, but I also thought that I saw that their 4th line was still getting shifts late in the game last night. Could mean that they will be a bit better rested than the Sioux might expect.

The scary part is that MN honestly isn't going to lose many games this year, and I hope Fri's game wasn't the last they needed to get out of their system. It truly is a meaningless game in terms of the goal of winning the NC for them. I hope they learned nothing from last night's loss! They are a very scary team.

  14. When the two goopher pundits had to "analyize" the Championship game tomorrow they once again gave the nod to St. Cloud because "the Souix will take penalties that are undisciplined". I think the Sioux have been much more disciplined as of late and their skill will finally show tomorrow night.

I'd be surprised if anyone from St. Cloud has any gas left inn the tank tomorrow night. There has yet to be a team to win the tourney after playing the Thur game. Let's hope that trend continues.

  15. Funny that the UMD site says "has been named" yet there is no info anywhere (including on the WCHA site) on the teams that are to be named today.

Maybe the F's are Raymond, Oshie, and Toews and Kessel has been snubbed (*ducks and runs for cover*) :)

You ARE a brave man, Sprig!
