  1. I hear the practices are extremly physical. The walk~on's have their hands full. Heck, the returning players have their hands full! Brian (Canady) has a partial seperation in his shoulder. :-( Can you believe that? Took an instinctive hit from D. Hale. He seems to be healing quickly but may miss the first road trip. I don't know who won Ironman. I know it was not Brian.
  2. Made by Nike. They have some mesh and a "swoosh" on the front.
  3. Okay, here's what I know... There are about 15 guys who are going to try and "walk on" when practice starts. They are not participating in the Iron Man. I guess last year there were some "walk on's" who worked hard during the Iron Man and were cut the first day of ice. They were pissed. So, this year Blais didn't have any of the walk on's do the Iron Man competition. The boys move into the locker room tomorrow and the Fighting Sioux have new jersey's this year. That is the news of the day. Oh, and Parent Weekend is November 15-16. (Thanks for the insight, Speez).
  4. There are several players running neck and neck for the IronMan champioship. Ryan hasn't been beat in the running events in three years. I think Brian has won all the running events except the mile run. That race they put all the sophs in one group and all other players in another. I think Ryan ran the mile in something like 5:20 and Brian ran it in 5:22. The two boys stay on eachothers heals. Jones is a powerhouse lifter. And I think Brian said Spiewack lifted a lot too. I can't really remember... (dont quote me ) Anyway, it is a tight competition this year. Good for the kids. They ran the 3 mile yesterday and I think they hit the 10K today. Sofie led the race yesterday for the first 2 miles. Brian follwed and passed him in the last mile. They had a real sprint to the finish line. Brian just had a little more left in his legs than Ryan. The boys are having fun. The Sioux's new strength and conditioning coach (I think he was the assistant S and G last year) is really working the team hard. Blais is on a war path watching for "slackers" and is riding these boys like race horses. The new assistant strength and conditioning coach is Scott Koberinski. You guys remember him? He is a former Sioux Champion and USHL coach of the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL. Regarding the "slackers"... I dont think there are any. It's going to be a great season for the Sioux.
  5. Hey, thanks for saying nice things about Brian. :-) I know he takes some heat regarding "dirty play". I like to think of it as, "intense play". If you watch him play, his shift always comes with great intensity. He shares his philosophy with younger players as, "never let anyone out work you on the ice". Any player who plays with great intensity will be called for stick infractions, etc. Off the ice, he is one heck of a great kid. You guys would like him. He loves fishing, his family and fishing. Just ask him! He plays the EXACT game Blais tells him to play. He is the Sioux the other teams love to hate. Oh well! He has showed up for this season in tip-top shape and is a leader in this years Iron Man competition. Nobody is harder on his game than himself. Nobody loves him more than we do (can you tell?). We are his greatest fans. BTW, Coach Blais appreciates his "intensity" (except at the end of the period... Yikes!). Okay... I'm sure your sick of hearing all this... I'll get off my soap box. Thanks for listening.
  6. Yes, you guys know which Sioux I'm the parent of. Canady, #22. We are VERY proud of him and so delighted he is in Grand Forks. We also have a daughter attending UND as well. She is a Junior this year. We'll be down for the week of October 20th. Three games in five days. Yahoo! :-) Can hardly wait. Brian, too, tells us the same things about Zach Parise. He is better than all the hype. Crosses the blue line and takes the shot. Ping~ping... it's in! I'm glad he's a Sioux. :-) Brian also tells us Brandt is looking great as well. I think everyone is excited to get the season started.
  7. jk, I'm a parent. Did you want to know about practices? I've talked with my son and his senior roommates about the practices a lot. Apparently, they are brutal! They say (seniors) practices have been harder this year than any previous year they have been a Sioux. The boys are working their tails off. Anytime anyone complains, the canned response is, "6th place!". The hockey team only has three events left in the Iron Man. 3K, 10K and swimming event. They have been doing dry land, on ice practice/scrimmage and top the conditioning day off with running stairs at the old rink. Under "watchful eyes"... (holding a stop watch.) My son also tells me Zach Paraise (sp?) is unbelievable. The greatest natural goal scorer he has ever seen. I don't know about practices open to the public. I will ask, but it seems to me the rink is always locked up pretty tight.
  8. Just thought you guys would like knowing Chris Fournier is no longer a Sioux. He showed up for Ironman/camp out of shape and coach kicked him off the team.
  9. I agree with Dagies. Wish there was room for Noterman. He'd make a great Captain. Much congrats to the Hale brothers and Spiewak. They will do a great job leading this years Sioux. Can hardly wait for hockey season to start.
  10. For the record: Canady dressed for all the regular season games. Yes, he missed the final game against Minnesota during the post season when he had his knee injured. Picky, picky, picky...
  11. Thanks guys... Don't worry about behaving yourselves. We Hockey Mom's have learned how to "toughen our skin" through the years. I've been reading this forum since it's onset. Everyone's got an opinion... including me... and FOR SURE we don't agree on everything. Now, how do I use that "quote" ? Thanks for your help.
  12. No! I have never made a post here... I don't really know what I'm doing. I ment a smiley face to be on the left side, by my name. By the way... I'm not a player. I'm a mom.
  13. We were saddend with Derek's decision.
  14. F.Y.I. Canady is ready to play... working out hard... expect him to have a great season.
