  1. Thanks to PCM and US College Hockey Online, SiouxSports.com is now the repository for the archive of photos Patrick Miller has taken for USCHO. This archive will include the full collections of future game photos, including those that USCHO doesn't publish.

You can view the UW photos immediately at:

    http://siouxsports.com/hockey/showgallery.php?id=1

We've only been working on this for a couple days, so there may be future changes or downtime as we continue to refine the service.

  2. He is expressing thoughts that really arent welcome here.

Right you are! Debates about the merits of moving to D-IAA aren't welcome here, in the football forum.

I'm leaving this thread open in this forum, but future posts to it shouldn't debate D-IAA any further. Feel free to take it up in the D-IAA forum.

  3. When possible, please remember to try to provide links to articles instead of posting the entire article. Exceptions are allowed when circumstances demand, but links are definitely preferred (for both legal & readability reasons).

  4. This message board verifies your email address before you are allowed to post. Another advantage of registration is that it keeps track of what posts you have viewed and which you haven't.

Though the registration process works for most users, some users' spam filters have erroneously prevented them from receiving the verification email.

If you do not receive a verification email within 24 hours of registering, please send an email to admin@siouxsports.com with your login ID and I will manually approve it.

  5. Alright -- let's try to keep the pissing match to a minimum. We all know that NDSU grads all work on farms and UND frat boys all wear women's clothing. Just saying that by itself doesn't constitute an argument -- at least tie it back to the subject at hand (in this case: UND Football -> NDSU decides to move to D-I).

  6. If anyone has an image in an electronic format (GIF/JPG/PNG) that you want to use as a custom avatar on the message board, drop me a note and I'd be glad to store the image on the siouxsports.com servers for you.

FYI-- the avatars are those little icons that appear below some usernames in posts.  There are a few built in avatars (smiley faces and so forth), but you can also specify custom images.

  7. Sorry, the name "siouxhockey" is already taken.

Your best bet if you want to change your name is to simply reregister -- that way the board can tell you whether the name is taken or not.  We do allow multiple IDs attached to the same email address so that shouldn't be a problem.

  8. Good question.  That's a setting that I can only change for all users -- there's no individual thread listing preference.

I did a lot of looking around and the VAST majority of boards list threads top to bottom (the way we currently do).  It makes the thread particularly newcomer friendly, in that you read in the normal English fashion (left to right, top to bottom).

However, I'm sure the majority of viewers are regular USCHO viewers.  They have chosen to list threads in a reverse-order, newest on top.  While that makes it easy to quickly read the newest replies in very long threads, it creates sort of an unfriendly newcomer experience.  To read a thread in that setup requires starting at the back and reading bottom to top.

So, that's why it is the way it is today.  However, this is a Democracy ;)

  9. When you logon, it should remember who you are for about 45 minutes, so you can reply to as many messages as you want in one "session", only having to login once.

Also, when you login there is a checkbox that reads "remember my login".  If you indicate that you want it to remember your logon, the computer you're currently on will remember your logon for much longer.  That feature is, of course, suitable only for computers on which you're the primary or only user.

Of course, if you have disabled "originating web site" cookies, the message board software will have no mechanism to remember who you are.

  10. Huh -- that wasn't intentional.  Though I've been playing with this new software for about a month, it's significantly more complex than the previous.

The good news is that it marked your name as being a guest name (when you look at the post, it's obvious that it came from a guest who called himself -Doc Nodak-, not the registered Doc Nodak).

Apparently the default for migrated forums was to allow guests to reply to existing topics, though not start new ones.  I've changed that so guests can only read, not contribute.

I rushed the software change a bit more than I should have because of the problems we were having with the old software.  Hopefully it will be a smooth transition.

  11. Whatever error caused the disappearance of some thread previously happened again this afternoon.

I'm uncertain of the cause, and the recovery process seems to lose a certain amount of data (in this case, back through yesterday).

I have currently rebuilt the hockey forum and pruned it down to the most recent 30 days only.

I'm also pursuing a long term switch to an entirely different version of the message board software that stores its messages in a more reliable database.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  12. Sorry about that folks.  By the time I got the message that there was a problem, it had corrected itself.  I wonder if people posting made the board rebuild its indexes, which made the messages appear.

Good to know that its largely self-correcting :)
