  1. Some talk of high school hockey as it relates to the Sioux is welcome in the Sioux hockey forum. Other topics likely to be of interest to UND/Grand Forks/North Dakota residents and alums (including N.D. high school sports) are also welcome in the community forum.

GDM explained why the cited thread was closed -- in addition to having deviated very far from the forum topic (Sioux hockey), it had taken on a bad tone of personal bickering.

  2. and this is how to spell asshole...i'll do it SLOW for you...A-S-S-H-O-L-E!!

Remember everyone, no personal attacks. As a general rule, try to comment on the topic of discussion rather than on other posters.

  3. Simply pointing out the discussion of a previously posted article would be much friendlier. Mocking other posters for unintentionally posting an already-discussed topic doesn't encourage participation or provide a welcoming environment for newcomers. ;)

  4. If you see a particular thread or message that concerns you, report it. We have troubles keeping up with every thread but have been paying closer attention this time of year. The only two I have seen of possible concern were:

    • The thread about "Which #1 seed will not win", was quite valid hockey talk until the past hour, really. (now closed)
    • The thread about fan experiences at Xcel, though clearly influenced by some sour grapes, were legitimate tales of fan experiences.

From a quick scan, well over 95% of threads in the hockey forum in the last 2 days have been directly about Sioux hockey.

On the topic of new user registration -- in the past couple weeks, I have yet to see a new user cause any trouble, and have seen quite a few new users make meaningful contributions to discussions. I'm not particularly interested in preventing someone from joining our community to discuss Sioux hockey because they decided to join it on March 24 instead of Oct. 1.

Again, if you feel a thread has gotten out of hand, point it out. Odds are you saw it before I did.

  5. OK, threads joined together.

I guess the point I wanted to make is there's a difference between a new thread beginning with "haha xxx sucks", which is a troll thread that would be closed regardless of who "xxx" is; and a legitimate discussion of an opponent's schedule. As I indicated previously, NDSU's schedule is a fine topic for discussion.

FYI, here it is (from the Forum):

    Aug. 28 -- Valparaiso (tentative).

Sept. 4 -- at Northern Colorado

    Sept. 11 -- Montana Tech.

Oct. 2 -- at Nicholls State.

Oct. 9 -- at South Dakota State.

Oct. 16 -- Southern Utah (Homecoming).

    Oct. 23 -- California Poly.

Oct. 30 -- Northwestern Louisiana (Harvest Bowl).

Nov. 6 -- at Weber State.

Nov. 13 -- at California Davis.

  6. ARe we allowed to just use the Hockey Page to sell tickets?

REA runs a ticket exchange for Sioux fans, so we haven't felt the need to duplicate that effort.

While others will probably quickly point the seller to the above site, there are no restrictions on listing them in the sports forums because it has never really been an overwhelming problem and some people prefer to offer their tickets to specific fan communities rather than REA patrons at large.

  7. Great post schmidtdoggydog, I copied it and posted it on USCHO.  :D

    NO, NO, NO!

Reposting the contents of this site on another site is strictly forbidden.

Almost all the posters here know how to find USCHO and can post duplicates of their own messages there if they choose.

  8. Especially the administrators--Tony and Jim I believe.  You lead the charge and I am sure the rest of the sheep will follow.

    I've tried.

Feb. 29. -- Bison fans on this website

All of you who want to bicker about UND-NDSU fan relations on Bisonville should take it to email or back to Bisonville, the rest of us aren't interested. This petty name-calling and interpersonal bickering really isn't welcome on SiouxSports.com, from anyone.
Mar. 2 -- The NEW Rivals! (Screw NDSU!)

If anything, I've been surprised by the anti-NDSU obsession that seems to have dominated this forum this off-season.

Don't blame the Bison fans, these threads are almost universally being started by Sioux fans who just seem to want to rip on the Bison. I guess we can start locking all threads that venture into anti-NDSU smack and suspending posters who can't take the hint. Is that what people are really looking for? Believe me, nothing would make me happier than getting rid of the tired old smack, but this board is here for you.

  10. From the moderation perspective -- things do get a little looser off-season, simply because there's less football to discuss, which makes it harder to enforce being "on topic". There have been enough complaints over the last week or so that I did start to crack down a little over the weekend and will continue to keep an eye out.

I don't usually read every thread on this board, so dropping me a note does get my attention (as I said, a few people did last week).

  11. There have been quite a few complaints over the past couple weeks about too much smack from NDSU fans on this board. However, when the Sioux fans' topic of choice is denigrating the Bison, there's not much I can do when they choose to respond.

Talking about happenings around the NCC is certainly on topic, just keep in mind the implications of how we choose to discuss it.

  12. Ack. Stop. All of you.

While I suppose polls about the players are somewhat on-topic, limiting discussions about non-hockey things like players' looks should probably be limited to a small number of threads so they don't dominate the conversation and draw less negative attention.

The threads do have titles, thereby allowing disinterested parties not to even read them; but certainly don't respond and those unpopular topics will quickly fall off the bottom.

  13. BTW, what's the deal with these idiots all of a sudden taking over this site and talking about worthless stuff?  Hopefully they get canned before this message board is considered a joke and we become dumber by checking it.

I've been keeping a close eye out today. It can be hard to catch things instantly, but there have been a couple suspensions.

  14. Honestly, I'll never understand why some people come here just to complain about disliking the discussion and patrons of this site. If you don't like it here, don't visit. The rest of us are here because we honestly want to discuss UND athletics.

  15. Mea culpa. You're both right. From DataFlix T&C:

Currently, each flix is allowed 5 views, eitherfor yourself or to give away as gifts. We reserve the right to change the number of views with respect to future flixs but will not change the number of views with respect to flixs that you have already paid for. You can watch the flix whenever you want, up to the allowed number of views for that flix. After those views are used up, if you want to watch the flix, you will have to pay the PPV fee again.

Once you buy the PPV flix, you may watch it from any computer or device with access to the Site. We do, however, reserve the right to change that policy at any time and from time-to-time.

I'm quite surprised that's their policy, but there it is. Carry on :glare:
