  1. I have a friend who is trying to create an account, and he has been having issues doing so because of the CAPTCHA verification. He said he has probably tried 50 times to create an account on different computers, and networks, and every time he is unable to because it says the CAPTCHA code was invalid. Any solution for this?

I'm really sorry about that, I've never heard of anyone having that much trouble. We get a lot of successful registrations every week, so I generally assume things are going well.

He can just drop me an email (from the email he was trying to register) to let me know he's having troubles and I'll manually approve the account. There's a forum feedback link that most people use, but he can also just send it to admin08@siouxsports.com .

  2. A seemingly partially botched upgrade has left the forum with a few odd issues. Noticed so far--

    * You may have noticed in your user profile that you have a "warn status" of 100%. (I think I've fixed this)

    * Clicking on a new thread title from the index page to see the newest posts results in a "cannot connect to database" error. Just avoid doing this for now, click on the forum title and navigate to the post from there instead.

I'll try to get it all resolved this weekend. Enjoy your holiday!

Ok, I think I now have a successful upgrade in place. Let me know of any remaining problems.

  3. As others have noted, this post could have done without the crossed out parts and still made the same point of disagreeing with what the other person said. The attack was uncalled for, but hijacking the disaster that's the topic of this thread to wish it upon someone with whom you disagreed on a sports message board is way over the top.

Well, this might come off as a personal attack....BUT

you, sir, are a first class D-bag. Everything you seem to say on this site seems to completely contradict whoever you are responding to. I would think there are probably more people on this site that would prefer you stop posting than continue. I hope you get flooded out of your house, out of the state, and to a location that denies you the privilege of using the internet for the purposes of posting on this forum.

And for your information, said neighbor has never been kind to her, her family, or her visitors (including myself) so I think she was rather polite in the way in which she handled this. Maybe get the whole story next time instead of making juvenile judgments based on your own narrow-minded perceptions.

  4. Nice, poke fun of a native persons name

Agreed -- mocking a person's name for being of a different ethnic heritage is not only pretty rude and undermining to one's own arguments, it's pushing the boundaries of the forum rules.

Everyone should acquaint themselves with the Forum Terms and Rules and remember that while all viewpoints are welcome in this discussion, slurs and racism are not.

  5. No politics, please.

Frequent readers already see then tensions of known differing political persuasions leak into other discussions between frequent posters. It seems like a bad idea to amplify that by encouraging people to discuss issues sure to create divides and bad feelings.

Other off-topic discussions don't harm the board's primary mission as a place people interested the Sioux can comfortably converse and can help increase the sense of community and familiarity between members. We've always thought political discussions could make people less comfortable or friendly with others in the community, thus harming its primary mission as place to have friendly discussions about the Sioux.

The Community forum notes "no politics please" in its description and "no politics and religion" is posted near the top of the Forum Terms and Rules.

  6. Unless you saw the game in question you are not qualified to have an opinion about it.

Please avoid attacking each other. Disagreeing with Dave, or anyone, on the topic (i.e. gun ownership) is great; letting that disagreement turn into personal attacks or badgering makes the board much less inviting for everyone.

  7. Although I agree with you, saying what you said could get you suspended around here. I know this from personal experience. :D

As Triouxp intimated, please keep the debate on the topic instead of attacking each other.

If you think a post is out of bounds, report but otherwise ignore it; attacking back usually just makes things worse. Pretty soon, the thread becomes about the posters instead of the subject (as evidenced by a lot of the last two pages of this thread).

Thanks to everyone for continuing to help keep this a place where people can engage in a debate and disagree without being personally attacked.

  8. Some of the posts in this thread do seem to be for the sole purpose of annoying other members. That's pretty much the definition of trolling and does not make the message board a better place for anyone.

I've contacted a few people individually, and hope everyone cooperates because I'd really prefer not to close this thread given that there is legitimate discussion to be had of Brian's recent accomplishments.

Everyone, please refrain from making posts that have no purpose other than baiting or annoying others.

  9. Apologies to those who have been receiving "Friend" spam or other inappropriate communication from the board.

Former member the"source", after being suspended, proceeded to use additional dummy accounts to issue threats against members of the board so was banned. Validating our decision, he has continued trying to disrupt the board and annoy members by registering dummy accounts and spamming other members.

I'm taking technical steps to address the situation and apologize for any inconvenience this has presented any of you. As a reminder, you can control what email the board sends you via "My Controls" if you prefer not to receive email notification of friends requests.

  10. from GPL

Reminder -- it's already been said a couple times in this thread, but please don't drag discussions from other message boards over to this one. Feel free to point out an interesting discussion on another board that may be of interest to members here, but don't copy posts.

  11. Everyone -- stop attacking other posters. Discussion on Oshie's suspension, the circumstances of the incident, and his role as a public figure are quite on topic, and can be disagreed on without resorting to attacking the other posters with whom you disagree.

    Followup -- civility

  12. It's been a growing concern of mine, the moderators, and quite a few members that civility on the board has greatly declined in the past few months. Posters are attacking each other at a rate at which we're having difficulty moderating on a post-by-post basis, so we see no other option than beginning to remove people who show a repeated inability to debate civilly.

This warning went out in the "Oshie suspended" thread, and is now being repeated here for everyone--

Everyone -- stop attacking other posters. Discussion on Oshie's suspension, the circumstances of the incident, and his role as a public figure are quite on topic, and can be disagreed on without resorting to attacking the other posters with whom you disagree.

Suspensions have already been issued to people who chose to ignore this warning in that thread.

Each member of this board can choose whether to participate in discussions without attacking other posters or to lose the right to post here.

  13. Everyone -- stop attacking other posters. Discussion on Oshie's suspension, the circumstances of the incident, and his role as a public figure are quite on topic, and can be disagreed on without resorting to attacking the other posters with whom you disagree.

  14. I moved the forum's email from the old server to this one last Friday.

Unfortunately, I didn't get it quite right, so any outbound mail from the forum this weekend was held until now; nothing was lost, it just wasn't sent until I fixed the error. That includes any email notifications of thread changes, any new user verification emails, or any emails to other members.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.
