  1. Thanks for the heads-up. I think I saw most of the report, but not all of it. Overall, I thought it was fairly well done. Based on the statement they showed from the NCAA, I'd say that UND's appeal doesn't have much of a chance.

The one problem I have with this show and others like it is that people are quoted as saying, "Many Native Americans are offended by this." As was the case tonight, the people making the statements aren't Native Americans. The question is never asked: How many is "many"? The polls showing that a large majority of Native Americans aren't offended are seldom mentioned.

I think this tends to give people who aren't familiar with the issue a skewed view because they assume that "many" means "most."

About 5 minutes into the program they had an interview with a member of the Seminole Tribal Council saying he was tired of None-American Indians telling them what is offensive.

  2. GK should follow his own advice. It's unfortunate that in this day and age, with all the information out there that people respond to other people without reading/understanding their statements. Some folks are just too anxious to sling a little mud.

But I don't agree with Tony's statements. The programs that UND has in place and the proposed GF casino agreement (or non-agreement), IMHO, will NOT change because UND will or will not keep the Sioux name or logo. The American Indian programs and services are not in place because of the Sioux name or logo. They are there because it's the University's mission to teach and prepare all it's students for a successful post college life. Any decision GF makes regarding the casino will be for strictly economic reasons with, hopefully, input from the citizens of GF.

  3. Just wondering what the differences between the two colleges are.

For example--type and location of campus, type of students, strengths and weaknesses of each school, are many programs dupicated, are they under one "university system" or are they completely independent...? Thanks

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The difference between the two colleges are.... the Bison Suck and the Sioux do not.

  4. Did HD come today, or just the other channels?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

HD is available but Midco is behind and it will take about three weeks for them to get to your house to hook it up if you were to call today. I called today and the soonest date they could hook it up is September 6.

  5. Although I am not Sioux, I am of Native American descent (Cherokee), and I am proud of the Fighting Sioux name.  I know that the school and its athletic teams are proud of the name and represent it well.  Most Native Americans I know take pride in seeing their heritage displayed so prominently as it is with the Seminoles, the Fighting Illini, and the Fighting Sioux.  I believe the NCAA should drop this whole mascot issue.  These nicknames and mascots can do more good raising awareness of Native American history than they will ever do harm.  I enjoyed the following article (although it is a couple of months old) and I hope all Sioux fans do as well.

Great link, thanks for sharing

  6. Yes, the difference is that the Bookstore is selling Koronis jerseys, which while made out of dazzle material are still just replicas. The ones sold at REA are Nike authentics.

    Problems with the Koronis jersey:

    Overall Jersey Design

    • -It is composed of several different pieces of material, the front is one piece, the back is one piece and then the sides are seperate pieces.  The jersey should be made of just one piece of material I believe.
-It only doubles back a small amount at the bottom of the jersey. It should double back much more, like any typical hockey jersey does.
-It does not have double elbows or double stitching. It also doesn't have a fight strap, but replicas don't usually have a fight strap so this ok/
-The green is not the correct color. It is a bit too light.
      • -The white jerseys have green on black letters.  This is not correct. On white jerseys it is black on white on green letters.
-The logo is not correct, it is too light in color and lacking detail.
-I do not believe the actual letters and logo are the correct material.
-Because it is not the real thing, they have small
TM next to the shoulder patches and on the logo.
-The size of the letters on the jersey is too large in length and they are not angled correctly. The "Sioux" noticably angles up and then back down when it should be nearly straight.

    Sides and Collar of Jersey
-The side of the jersey is not correct. The two secondary colors (i.e. green and black on a white jerseys) end. The only color on the sides of the jersey is the main color (i.e. white on a white jersey). Each color should go all the way around jersey.

-The collar is incorrect as the diamonds are too large.

Diagonal Striping at bottom of Jersey

-It is difficult to see in a picture, but no colors are sewn on top of others.  The main color should be sewn on top of the two secondary colors (i.e. white should be sewn on top of black and green on a white jersey). The same thing goes for the sleeves.

-The color that is at the top(i.e. black diagonal line on the white jersey); The left side extends to the bottom of the jersey and the right side stops where it meets the left side.  This is wrong it should be the other way around, the right side should extend to the bottom of the jersey and the left side should stop where it meets the right side.  -The primary color of the jersey should not extend to the bottom of the jersey on the left.  It should end when it meets the top secondary color.

Here is an authentic Nike jersey:

    Here is a Koronis jersey

You can see the differences, the wrong color/type of letters and logo, the lack of colors on the sides of the jersey, no double stitching, wrong collar, problems with diagonal striping, etc.

UND should hire me for all this pointless knowledge.  Heck, I'd settle for them just giving me a free jersey

    Nice presentation :0

  7. I am hopeful that Matt stays, but I really think that he will most likely leave. However, in 2003-04 onlyabout 14 teams were below the cap of $39 million (before the salary roll back), and the Oilers being one of those teams. I see those 14 teams the ones who will be eating up those players that will be released by high revenue teams. Could it be possible that the high revenue teams will be the ones having to fish into there minor league teams and prospects pool to fill empty voids left by high priced talent they can't afford leaving and lower revenue teams keeping their prospects in the minors or college? The Oilers are one of the teams the will definately not have to cut any players to be under the salary cap. Just a thought.

  8. If Greene does leave our D will be so green next year it will not even be funny....Smaby and basically all freshman.  Lee, Jones, Chorney, Radke (basically a frosh) and after that it is a serious reach.  That is only 5 d and inexperienced at that.  That is not usually a recipe for success in the WCHA.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I totally agree, the good thing is we have two outstanding goalies that can take on 30-40 shots a night. I'm sure their save percentage will go down a bit and their GAA will go up, but they will definately help out our young D.

  9. Does anyone have an update on Nick's condition?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I know he is back in Grand Forks, also, from was I hear, don't bring up him wearing a face shield or he'll get PO'd.

  10. And as far out as Michigan, people just think he's a straight-up Nazi sometimes. I tell them otherwise as much as I can, but that doesn't mean that the perception does not exist outside the state, and it's sad that it does.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Are you trying to tell us that you tell these people, who think Ralph was a Nazi, otherwise as much as you can, and then write what you did? You're kind of contradicting yourself there pal. Also, you forgot to mention in your little acticle that Michigan shared the National Championship with Nebraska in 98, you must have forgotten that part. GO BUCKEYES!!!!

  11. Timing, as they say, is everything. I got out to the airport around 2:30 a.m. not long after the charter flight arrived. Was that "siouxyeahyeah" I saw parked and watching?

Unfortunately, the plane was out on the tarmac and unaccessable to the general public. A UND bus drove up to the plane to unload the team. Their gear was loaded into a truck. Both vehicles took off and I headed back into town. And yes, I saw "Uncle Rico" pass me in his red car on the way back.

Three vehicles passed us and turned south towards the Ralph. Rico and I followed them. One stopped in the north parking lot. I recognized Cary Eades as he got out, so I pulled up to say a few words. I'm sure I triggered a "WTF?" moment when I stopped and got out of my van.

I shook his hand and told him how proud he and the team made UND, Grand Forks and all of North Dakota. We only spoke briefly. I knew he was tired and probably wanted to get home. But he did give me a great line for my sig below.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

My "WTF" moment came we I pulled up to a van at the airport that I followed all the way from town, which I thought was PCM. I turned out to be some lady that gave me a weird look like "WTF you what". So I got the hell outta there.

  12. I'm heading out too. Look for a dark colored Ford Windstar mininvan, the official vehicle of PCM. ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think I passed you on the way back in to GF, you need to speed up man  .

Was that you talking to Eades in front of the Ralph, if so, what did he have to say?
