  1. I'm not assuming anything...but still curious why you picked Detroit over a city with 1,500+ shooting victims thus far in 2014 to compare to Fargo...

I grew up in a safe, inner city, culturally diversified, blue collar neighborhood in Chicago. Detroit was  a place we didn't go, maybe because it's the home of the Detroit Lions and/or a place that had more crime than my neighborhood.   What I did was bring attention to the rising rate of crime in Fargo by comparing it to an area that has a lot of crime.  I could easily have said Chicago given the number of murders there have been in the recent  past or I could have said any one of the 25 most dangerous cities in the US.but I didn't.  What I didn't do was attach a group/race/culture/religion to the title.

  2. LOL...steretyping! Read the title of your own thread here and this is coming from you. Now that's really rich!

I'll let you have the last word if you want...I'm gonna bow out.

You're head has been bowed this entire thread.  See ya.

  3. So .357 is automatically labeled a "racist" because you know what you read, but the "new Detroit" reference doesn't reflect any racial undertones? What if Governor Dalrymple was quoted as saying he was concerned about Fa rgo becoming the "new Gary, Indiana" or "the new Memphis"? I'm guessing you'd think differently...

I posted the definition of racist, his comment fits.  I don't see mention of a country of origin in the title of this thread. Why would I think differently if he he is talking about crime?  You're assuming I  believe only minorities or immigrants are responsible for rising crime rates in Fargo.

  4. I've never thought of myelf as anything less than an American. It's only in the last 20 years or so that it became important to hyphenate yourself.

There were three distinctly different countries of origin in my Chicago neighborhood.  We were 'hyphenated' as far back as I remember and that's more than 20 years ago.

  5. By pointing out you are a complete hypocrite. You throw the "racist" card on this site whenever you can but you are worse...you hide behind your gender and that fact you are a minority.

Detroit is 83% black...and you compare their crime to Fargo. This thread was "racist" when you started it.

    You are a joke.

So, I'm not the submissive, 'Yessa, massa', you expect from a minority woman. Enjoy the jokes. :D

  6. A friend of mine, born and raised in another country, who has traveled extensively all over the world, told me that only in American do people say 'I am other country-American'.  Regardless of their origin people in many parts of the world only identify with the country where they live. He told me I wasn't Mexican-American, I'm American.  That gave me a hmmmm moment.

  7. You're wrong.  Most Mexicans that we know have nothing to do with the country of Spain.

Some are but the descendants are more tied to Mexico than to Spain.  But, like everyone else, who we are is not where we originated.

  8. Sioux-cia: I'm going to extend an olive branch to you. You're no doubt a very nice lady & I don't get my kicks outta insulting other people. Enjoy your evening & see you in the hockey threads.

Thank you. You are certainly welcome to express your opinion.  I'm certainly not known for keeping my opinions to myself..  See ya there.

  9. You are aware Mexicans have a spanish past right?  Spain is where?  Europe.

I don't like when people cry about nonsense.

What?? is that suppose to make statements about how one group has better values than another ok??

And, I don't like people making generalizations about other people.

This thread Fargo becoming the new Detroit is suppose to be about the rising crime rate in Fargo/ND. I won't accept comments about one 'race' being better than another quietly. Deal...

  10. .

But you being female and a minority obviously give you as pass in everything and all things "racist".

BTW I bet with someone here as to how long it would take you to throw out the term "racist". I lost...thought it would come out earlier in this thread.

    And, you're right on schedule,  ;) .

  11. Are Fargo's (North Dakota's) rising criminal rates due to the number of immigrants or, IMO, a wide variety of new comers to our state who don't share the values of the majority of ND (rgardless of race, religion, sex); a strong work ethic, a respect for our neighbor, etc.

  12. Sioux-ciaa person who believes that a particular race is superior to another., yours included. Just stating my observations & opinions over the course of almost half a century. What I said may be the furthest thing from a fact, but it is my opinion to which everyone should be granted one. I love all peoples & believe we can all learn from each other.

Edit after reading your latest post: Geesh, really? The old "you must be a racist" canard because you don't think like everyone else? I'm married to a beautiful Filipina, btw.

'....a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.'
'I have noticed some HUGE differences between the way whites & non-whites think; regardless of how long they have lived here. Whisttes are ingrained with & accustomed to order, formal procedures, respect of personal property & other distinct European traits.'

'I didn't intend to ruffle any feathers here,'
'Try not to get your panties in a bunch.'
  13. Whatever, just stating an opinion to which everyone is entitled...Try not to get your panties in a bunch.

    Just my opinion....

  14. Holy crap!!! For real, 'I have noticed some HUGE differences between the way whites & non-whites think; regardless of how long they have lived here. Whisttes are ingrained with & accustomed to order, formal procedures, respect of personal property & other distinct European traits.'  I'm of Mexican descent and am deeply insulted by your broad generalization. I'm not going to 'defend' my culture against this bull shat, just know this is bull shat.

  15. If you left Chicago because it wasn't safe, why are you comparing Fargo to Detroit? Shouldn't your thread title be "Fargo the new Chicago??"

I didn't leave Chicago because it wasn't safe. I left to go to school. I grew up in an area in the inner city that was a safe, family oriented area of the hardest working blue collar workers anywhere in the country. It too changed for the worse but Detroit, for me, has always been 'the bad place'.  ;)

  16. Growth certainly has something to do with it but I believe the boom is also responsible.  It's bringing in people who are looking to make an easy, fast buck. There's a lot of money to be made in the oil fields but it's hard work.  A certain faction is coming into the state to get their hands on some of that money without having to do honest work for it. Just my opinion....
