  1. I was just going to say it looked like only the seniors did the stick salute tonight... and then Tim confirmed it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The entire team saluted the fans right after the teams shook hands, the seniors salute came about a minute later. I was at the game. Tim must have been checking out the cheer leaders and missed the first salute.

  2. I perceive that "Gopher" means "dirty, rotten, cheap @##%&@#%!" Is that what Gopher means? (<--- That's rhetorical. ;) )

People will always have their perceptions.

    Fact and reality matter.

Of course "Gopher " means "dirty, rotten, cheap, @##%@#%!" . No one in our community questions that definition. In some Native American communities, "Sioux" means "Snake in the Grass". I guess that means their fact and reality is our fiction  . No, I don't work for the GF Herald. I don't live in a tunnel either ??? .

  3. Read the whole post linked to.

An expert in native languages says it doesn't mean that.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thanks, I did read the whole article  what he has written is not definitive. The expert states Sioux does not mean snake; to the Native American gentleman I spoke with, Sioux means 'Snake in the Grass'. Therein lies the rub my friend. That is why this issue is so controversal. But, I believe that as long as we have the Ralph, we will remain the Fighting Sioux.

  4. I'm here for the first time and I'm in GF and taking in what I can before the Sioux/Wisco series.  REA was great along with watching the Sioux practice and some high school hockey.

As I have read on previous posts parking sucks (or is nonexistant) at the REA for Sioux games. Other than Dagwoods, does any one know other establishments that may have shuttles?

Thanks for any advice any one can throw my way.

Looking forward to seeing some Badger ass swept up this weekend (one can hope...)

Welcome! UND has three buses piggy backing from the large parking lot between University Ave and 2nd Avenue North - just east of Columbia Rd. I have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for one of those buses, coming or going.

  5. This is all easily solved.  Change the nickname to the University of North Dakota Redskins and have the mascot be a big red potato.  I know some people wanted to do this whet GF Central changed it's mascot and I have liked the idea ever since.

As a former Fighing Illini, and a Fighting Sioux alum  , I agree, keep the name. I believe it represents honor, strength, loyalty, etc. and UND has provided more opportunities for Native American's than any other school. But I have to add, a Sioux elder told me that the French gave the name Sioux to the Indians during their warring, he said it means 'Snake in the Grass'. ???
