  1. I dunno. I would think making trips to BC, BU, Michigan, etc. would be a good recruiting tool.

Maybe if Minnesota recruited those area, but we know they don't. Minnesota plays Michigan and Michigan State every year. They rotate the home ice. The Gophers usually have one other OOC road trip every other year. 2006-07 play at Ohio State 2 games. 2004-05 played at Alaska, played U Mass. and Anchorage. 2003-04 they played at Omaha and played Maine and Omaha. 2002-03 play 2 at New Hampshire. It all comes down to the money. The Gophers have about 22 Div. one sports and they have three sports that make a profit and womens basketball that just about breaks even. Maturi is not going to give up very many home games to play home and home series with teams when the Gophers can stay home and sell 10,000 tickets at #35 each. Playing in the big ten is not cheap. Hopefully the football team will someday be good. They might then be able to expand the new stadium to around 70,000 seats and if that happens then the budget pressure will not be there and the Hockey team might just schedule a few more OOC road game. Maybe the bad case scenario will happen and there might someday be a Big 10 Hockey Conf. and then UND will be looking to schedule Minnesota home and home every other year. Not saying it will happen and not saying it's out of the question. I am not sure how it would be handled if Penn State or Illinois ever went Div. 1 Hockey. Something to think about though as college Hockey evolves.

  2. Where's the pairwise predictor?

No Wisconsin at their own regional. :(:(:D If you get placed there, don't buy tickets ahead of time. They will be giving tickets away at the Kohl Center.

  3. I could be wrong, but I believe that UAA pays for much (if not all) of the travel expenses for teams to go up there. If that is the case, your theory on draining WCHA budgets is out the window.

I am not 100% sure on this...anyone else know?

EDIT: I found a site where it says:

The expansion would continue, with the addition of Alaska-Anchorage in 1993. UAA's membership further reinforced the mold of the WCHA as a "plane" league, although UAA's membership was contingent on helping to pay for teams to come visit the Seawolves.

Now what percentage that is, I have no idea.

plus two extra home games each year we play up there. For Mn. that is 10,000 seats times $30 = $300,000 per game. Minus a few $ for the studnt section. Thats still about $250,000 per game. I don't think having the Alaska teams are much of a drain.

  4. Well played game by both teams and they both represented the WCHA well. Now go out and kick some Eastern butt. As much as this pains me to say, get #8 and keep the title in the conference that it belongs.

  5. AZSIOUX,

Sure I would be. I was around the week after the Sioux thumped us in Minneapolis. I enjoy the banter, no flaming intended. Just talk from WCHA rivals. This time of year is the best. Win tonight and then lets get it on Sunday.

  6. Yeah, but a 10 foot goal isn't as impressive as a 180 foot goal :D

As a Gopher fan, I think it is. Since it was for the WCHA championship it is a more meaningfull game. Also the guy was on his belly. You gotta love that :(:D

  7. The gap has been close for several years now. Mercyhurst, Bemidji, and Wayne St. pushed teams to the brink. AF/Huntsville showed Holy Cross was no fluke. I'm sure there will be some blowouts again at some point, but the CHA/AHA league champion knows they can compete without a doubt.

A team like AF that works hard and is well coached can do some damage in a tourey game. No pressure to win. There not going to lose kids to the NHL, so they have more Sr. leadership. Average age of AF is 18 mo. older than Minnesota. I think UND and Mn. are two of the younger teams in Div. 1. There is not much of a reward anymore to be a #1 seed. Maybe the NCAA's go to a 20 team field and the #1's get a first round bye.

  8. Are you kidding me, Lucia? Did anyone else hear how loud it got at the Xcel Energy center when St. Cloud scored on the Sioux in the semifinal of the Final Five? It was loud, and it was mostly Gopher fans.

Let see here, you have Minnesota fans cheering for a Minnesota team. Wow, what a crime that is.

  9. My phone would not stop ringing saturday night. The lame messages filled my mailbox. Yet like you said, I never made a single comment to anyone about how the Sioux would beat anyone this year. I was getting calls from people who don't even watch hockey. They just saw Wheeler on SC Top 10 and thought it might be fun to call and laugh. Then again some of those same people called and texted when UND was down 0-2 at MN. Shortly after that, my phone went silent. :D

Sounds like you need to be more carefull on who you give your phone number out to. :silly::angry::huh:

  10. dont forget brian lee is a possible goner. my predictions are: toews is the only goner with chorney a 50/50 and oshie a 65/35 to stay. dont ask how i came up with the predictions...its a very lengthy and scientific process. :silly:

At least they didn't mention Duncan or Okposo. Of course this article will will have No bearing on who actually signs when the season is over.

  11. I hate to say it Sioux fans, but we have a tough draw to the Frozen Four. I can see our team beating Michigan in a tough battle and then playing Minnesota the next day. The Minnesota game will be a tough game as well, but I think the Sioux will get redemption from last night. On another note, with the brackets set as they are I don't see a WCHA team winning this year. When I see the West region bracket in general, the Sioux and Gophers might have to play against each other and then more then likely face a tough Boston College team in the Frozen Four. Whoever wins in the West regional has a long road ahead of them to the championship game. I hate the how the brackets are set, but it is what it is. I hate to say it, but this will be the year where a WCHA doesn
  12. A good championship brawl would boost tickets sales for next season

Very intense game, but what would you expect. How can you boost tickets sales when the championship rounds are SOLD OUT. I watched the first period of Mich. and the Doomers. No comparison. Either one of these teams will have there way with that conference.

  13. this yr ? & when do they sell tickets ?

& is the game this thursday on cable tv here or fargo ?

The two in the west are at Denver and Grand Rapids , Mi. Tickets have been on sale since Oct. Whoever goes to Denver would be wise to NOT buy tickets ahead of time. Get them cheap once you are there. With NO CC or Denver, the place will be empty. They are playing in the Pepsi center and it holds around 18,000. TV coverage is on FSN, don't know if you get that in Fargo or not.

  14. For all of them Goofer fans that say this isn't a rivalry I guess tDon just debunked that theory.

Hum, just what I thought. tDon considers UND one of their top rivals. Ha

I have never said UND is not a rival. I have always said Wisconsin is the #1 rival and I say that because we play them in ALL sports. Except Baseball. If I had to make a list in the WCHA it would be (I know, like who cares)1. Wisconsin 2 UND. 3. UMD 4. SCSU 5 CC 6 Denver 7. Mankato 8. Michigan Tech and 9 AA.

  15. I haven't heard or read anything about it - so it probably won't happen - but I was wondering if there will be a fan bus from GF this weekend. I know tickets were hard to acquire as I can only get SRO two minutes after they become available every year - but just wondering.

That brings up another thought. I know the University of Minny Mystery downplays us as a substantial rival - sighting Sconny as the main one due to the Big 10 - and their arrogant fans ridicule us for even thinking that we are their biggest rival - as they are ours for obvious reasons. With that, why can't we get other than SRO tickets (if any at all) when these games mean so little to that elitest group of folks known as goofer fans.

Sounds like I wrote the last paragraph for the Trolls - perhaps I did

Maybe you can't get any tickets, because ALL games are sold out and season ticket holders like myself go to ALL games. Unless I am on Winter vacation in Mexico. My guess is there will always be a few tickets for sale on the street, but not many and not for face value.

  16. It's one of, if not THE, biggest college hockey upsets in history, and they beat our #1 rival, on our ice, in our building....i think we can give them more than we give most teams for a win. sure, its going a LITTLE far, but remember, people can celebrate how they want, as long as they want, for whatever they want. kudos to the U.S. Constitution for that one.

Its great to see UND lossing all these home games at Mariucci West. UND in 8th place man is that great or what.
