  1. Either that or they should put sharpshooters in the catwalk above the ice. That way they could shoot anyone who stands up at an inappropriate time. That'd learn everyone real good. Students thought they were picked on before? They'll be wishing they minded their P's and Q's and listened when they were told to sit down by the ushers!
  2. So HockeyMom is lying? You can read minds! You're amazing!
  3. So the clock at Marriucci lied? I am proud of you that you can read minds though. Can you also do lottery numbers?
  4. Me too!! I mean....awww crap.
  5. Actually it is a matter of money. When it's ok for students in sections 308 and 309 to stand up because they are only blocking the view of fellow students, it's about money. At football games, many people get their view blocked by students standing, but it isn't considered a big deal. It's all about the money. That's fine though. Find out when they can and when they can't stand up and problem solved.
  6. Frozen dead animals now get you kicked out of the game. This is one of the little things that REA could "overlook". It's really no harm and is something that could be eased up on without any real negative consequences.
  7. They were removed about halfway through the first season I think because for some reason, a few students felt the need to steal/break them. Not sure why they thought this was cool. The standing problem I think is the easiest problem to solve and will be solved after this meeting. All that needs to happen is a clear and consistant policy towards standing. The first year it was ok for students to stand during PP and select other times that were subjective but pretty obvious. It worked. The 2nd year this policy went away for some reason and since then there has been no stated policy toward standing and it's become a problem. Just make a policy about it, make sure students know the policy and it will be resolved. Swearing will be more difficult to solve, but it is doable. Having students unite in a group like Sioux Crew is a great idea, but I don't think it would work. I don't know why either. At every other sporting event it works, Sioux Crew doesn't work at hockey games though. I have no idea why. Perhaps because 95% of students go to FB, BB, etc. for the game, while only 70% of students go to hockey for the game and 30% go to be seen or as an excuse to get drunk.
  8. Maybe compromise isn't the right word. I think students would just like REA to use their many resources to get others more involved. They certainly don't deserve cookies and milk at every game. Though gettting cupholders back would be nice.
  9. OK, fine. Cut the sarcasm. What is the solution? I'm serious. Students need to sit more and not swear, so how is that going to be accomplished?. How are we going to get this to happen? How can students work with REA to get it done? And don't say I don't know, the students should just figure it out for themselves. That doesn't help any. It makes it seem like people want to point out the obvious problems, but want no part in helping to solve the problem. Sure it ultimately falls upon the students to solve and implement the solutions to the problem, but helping out sure doesn't hurt any. And once again the point of students feel like they are being persecuted is ignored. Why? That is a problem and it has to be figured out. You can sarcastically make fun of me and the point if you really want to, but the problem will still exist in the minds of the students. How do we solve that problem? Fix this problem and it will go a long way to solving the swearing and standing I believe. It's stupid but students, like all people, will be much more receptive when they feel like they are being respected. This meeting has the opporunity to start the path towards this happening and I hope it does.
  10. I like how you only address half of my point while ignoring what I say about students ignoring what others say. It's nice, in fact it proves my point! I know I'm right, so your use of sarcasm doesn't work real well. Both sides need to work together to solve the problem. When everyone sits around saying it's you fault, no it's your fault, nothing gets solved. It's both sides fault for refusing to work together. There has been plenty of time to solve the problem, but somehow everyone seems to think that one year it might just magically solve itself.
  11. Did you forget to take your meds today, PCM? The problem in it's simplest form may be students standing, swearing, etc. But the reason for this continually being a problem is that neither side will even listen to each other.
  12. This attitude here is one of the problems. When someone brings up the real/percieved antagonization of the students, they are immediately dismissed. Whether the antagonization is actually happening or not, many students believe that it is happening. This has to be addressed, not ignored. The administration seems to expect the students to address everything they bring up, but shouldn't have to address anything the students bring up. The students expect the exact opposite. Meanwhile, nothing gets done.
  13. It would seem you are the one who doesn't know what he is talking about. People were saying it was terrible for Phil to do because the game was over when actually the game wasn't over. HockeyMom pointed this out.
  14. That's what I was asking. People were saying it was so much worse because it happened when the game was over. I wanted to know if it would be such a big deal if it had been done with a second left in the game.
  15. This is just silly. No one is saying Phil should have done it, but bringing up a girl that was killed by a puck as a reason why what Phil did was absolutely horrible, is ridiculous. It is not that big of a deal. Would anyone give a crap if yesterdays game went the exact opposite and Briggs sent a puck into the stands? Or if Phil would have done this at REA?
  16. Nope. I pay attention when I'm at hockey games and thus wouldn't have the problem in most cases. If I was hit, it would be because I wasn't able to get out of the way, not because I was too busy picking my nose. If I get hit by a puck, it certainly would suck but I wouldn't get my pants all in a knot because of when the puck hit me.
  17. The horn blows, a half a second later Phil shoots the puck into the stands. Had the whistle been blown with 1 second left and Phil shoots the puck into the crowd, then it's not as bad? Umm ok. He shot the puck into the stands and while it wasn't a smart move, but it's not that big of a deal.
  18. Pay attention then. The player is doing the exact same thing and in both situations he certainly isn't attempting to injure anyone. I don't care who does it though or when he does it, I have big worries in my life then something like this. Sure Phil shouldn't have done it, but who cares?
  19. Why is it ok for students to stand at the basketball games or football games, but not at the hockey games? This is one of the things I don't understand. I'm not making an argument for standing at hockey games, but why the difference?
  20. How is this any different from when a player purposely fires the puck out of play to relieve pressure in his defensive zone?
  21. No. I was making fun of the students who say that. Everyone pays a good amount of money in one way or another to go to these games. that's why instead of always arguing about it with each other, something should actually be done. Arguing about the same things every year doesn't solve anything. Both sides have to be willing to actually give something up and right now it seems like neither side is willing to give anything up.
  22. But students have to pay thousands of dollars to go to school.
  23. One of the problems is that every one of these meetings has seemed rather one sided. It has always been about what the students can't do, never about what the students can do. It's never been about what REA can do to help the students, it's about what the students can do to help REA. And when it has been about what REA can do for students, REA hasn't followed through. I do hope this meeting will be different though and it can be. as many things can be done to make everyone happy, but both sides have to work together. This has never happened though for the reasons mentioned above and many others. To hopefully finally end this, students need to stop feeling persecuted when it comes to these meetings and the hockey games, even if they are, and put a positive spin on it. REA/UND needs to find a way to make students feel like they aren't being ignored and perseuted. As long as students feel this way, things will not be solved.
  24. Not excusing those fans, but I think it's rather easy to explain to young children. When I was young and went to games, my parents pointed out to me how stupid fans like these guys were. I listened to them and believed them. It seems simle to me.
  25. But 3 of the 4 shouldn't have been penalties.
