  1. Two Questions:

    First

Are they converting the lower bowl to all Coaches Club level?

Or is this a tactical move to get students more of the lower bowl?

    Next

What was tuition in 2001-2002? What is it today?

I really don't know, but I do suspect you'll find "linkage" between that and prices.

I received the letter also. REA is changing some seats in the lower bowl, sections 103-105 from Varsity Club level to Coaches Club. Their reasoning is that Varsity club is the only level that had seats in both the lower and upper bowl. We had the option to keep our current seats and pay Coaches Club fees or be reseated in the upper bowl and remain Varsity Club.

  2. yes, I did not feel like paying to see a game that was going to be over after the 1st quarter so that is why I did not go. how much of the revenue from the playoff game does the ncaa get? if they get most of it then it is not a bad thing that there was such low attendence :silly:

According to a TV interview with Tom Buning, the NCAA gets all of the revenue over and above expenses.

  3. It seems the reports of UND's budget problems were incorrect. The latest OPE data is now available.

    Revenues $ 10,427,002

    Expenses $ 10,080,241

That is $346, 761 in the black.

    OPE Data

Curiously NDSU has balanced their budget to the dollar for at least the second year in a row.

  4. I'm hoping the Sioux establish home ice advantage better than recent history, at least early in the season. Maine is a team with another very strong goaltender. If they play a strong defensive game like Bucky, then I guess anything can happen. A few breakdowns defensively by the Sioux, and a solid effort by Maine could make life difficult.

Hopefully the Sioux take care of their own zone this weekend. If so, I like our chances to sweep. I think the Sioux will have the edge offensively. Defense and goaltending can be the great equalizer. Would be fun games to see (they all are, aren't they?).

I wonder if they'll be on TV in Blackduck, MN...

Not in Blackduck, but if you drive up/down the road to Turtle River or Northhome, you can get it on Paul Bunyan Cable, channel 64. It is part of a premium sports package that costs @ $7/month.

  5. This article in the Illinois Herald & Review Herald & Review has a statement by Ron Guenthar, Illinois Athletic Director, that a large gift to UND is hanging in the balance of the nickname decision. Does anyone know if this is anything more than speculation or incorrect information? I know that rumors of this have been circulating for a long time, but I wonder why the IL AD would believe that it is true?

  6. There is a reference to a larger Native American Cultural Center/Museum in the UND Strategic Plan II, Building on Excellence (2005). Priority Action Area C: Complete the new American Indian Cultural

Center, and seek funding for an expanded center/museum.

  7. I seem to recall, but cannot find it in any UND press release, that when the new American Indian Center was dedicated, that it was described as a temporary step and that there was a much larger plan to build a Native American Center/museum in the works.

  8. Tom Dennis, opinion writer for the GF Herald comments in his blog Prairie Pundit

Although he wholeheartily supports Mike Jacobs 2 year "cooling off" period he seems to now realize that the NCAA is on shaky legal ground and a UND win would be the ultimate loss for nickname opponents.

UND might just win this thing in court. It has a case against the NCAA, as attorney general Wayne Stenehjem declared and the William and Mary appeal document essentially confirms.

And if UND wins in court, then the nickname will be etched in the university's "cultural granite" as deeply as it is in the Engelstad Arena's flooring and walls. The situtaion will not be "status quo ante," meaning as it was before the NCAA's action. Instead, UND will have emerged triumphant from a risky and expensive battle with a powerful national organization.

I'd guess that such a victory would cement the nickname at UND for decades to come.

  9. I assume, by this being privately funded, that in the off chance that there are fiscal damages assigned against the NCAA the funds would go only to UND.

I say this because if it would be publicly funded the funds would have to go to the State's general fund.

NCAA caused this ----"Jeannote said. "This has really divided our campus community. We're getting calls from parents asking about 'the hostile environment' here." by acting without any evidence of 'hostile & abusive'.

The courts should remedy this by awarding $$$$ damages.

  10. The state of Minnesota nickname is The Gopher State.

The state of Nebraskas nickname is the Cornhusker State.

The state of Wisconsins nickname is the Badger State.

The state of Michigans nicknames are The Wolverine State, The Great Lakes State.

The state of Iowas nicknames are The Hawkeye State, The Tall Corn State.

The state of North Dakotas nicknames are Peace Garden State, Roughrider State, Flickertail State

I see a trend that I would like to see continue.

    I like this one best.

    THE NICKNAMES:

The Peace Garden State: (Official) This name commemorates the International Peace Garden on North Dakota's border with Manitoba, Canada. The International Peace Garden was dedicated on July 14, 1932. The nickname was made official by the North Dakota legislature in 1957.

Land of the Dakotas: This nickname recognizes the Dakota tribes of North Dakota. The Dakota are also referred to as Sioux. See below.

The Sioux State: Similar to "The Land of the Dakotas," this name recognizes the Sioux or Dakota people of North Dakota.

The Roughrider State: This nickname was used to promote tourism in the state in the 1960s and the 1970s. It references Theodore Roosevelt's short-live excursion into the cattle ranching business in North Dakota. On a buffalo hunting trip to the North Dakota Badlands in 1883, he was moved to purchase an interest in the Chimney Butte Ranch, also known as the Maltese Cross Ranch. After the tragic deaths of his mother and wife on the same day in 1894 and after the 1894 Republican convention in June, Roosevelt headed back to North Dakota to seek some peace and solitude. He purchased another parcel of land, located about 35 miles north of Medora, and named it the Elkhorn Ranch. Roosevelt's ranches were run by others as he spent most of his time in the east. His last visit to the Elkhorn Ranch was in 1892 and by 1898 he had sold all his holdings.

The Flickertail State: This nickname references the Richardson Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus richardsonii) of North Dakota. This squirrel flicks, or jerks, its tail while running and just before entering its borrow. The Flickertail March, by James D. Ployhar is North Dakota's official State March.

  11. Another outcome from the committee today is the extension of banning off-campus sites with NA imagery from NCAA championships. Seems targeted towards one specific site --- REA.

  12. This gives the NCAA the opportunity to get out of the corner they have painted themselves into. They can reaffirm their policy with the exemptions that they have previously granted to FSU, Utah, etc. Do you think they will be smart enough to realize this and end this debacle?

  13. The River Queen (I lost more than a few brain cells in that place)! Anyone? Do nursing home residents have access to the internet?

What was the name of that bar in the Ryan Hotel? Brothers owned it and then opened a bar in the City Center Mall.

All named places are gone now.

The Lobby & Loft, operated by the Beloff brothers.

  14. Did WDAZ indicate that the report will focus only on UND or the nickname controversy in general?

If only UND...why are we so special? Is it because of Engelstad?

WDAZ's announcement indicated that it would focus on the NCAA's ruling and controversy. They showed video of the exterior of REA during the announcement. :D
