  1. I don't think you need to replace the interlocking ND at all. I think that's a great logo. Screw Notre Dame.

Delaware and Michigan have the same helmet design, so what?

I agree, the Interlocking ND is a good logo. Maybe to dfferentiate from that other ND ours should be superimposd on an outline of the state. Maybe use a relief map to bring in some color, dark geen of the valley to orange in the SW.

  2. Depends.

If the anti-nicknamers win, the results will be very soon.

If they lose, then it will take a while to find some loophole to invalidate the vote.

    Unofficial results: From WDAZ

    Support the nickname - 776

    Oppose the nickname - 369

  3. When you say, "Wahpeton and Grand Forks paid money" for flood levees, you are off-base. I wouldn't be surprised if Fargo spent more of its own tax money on flood control than GF has since 1997 - what Fargo didn't get is $400 million from the state and feds. I guess you can't get money for flood control until after you have a 500-year flood.

BTW, after waiting 12 years, Fargo is finally supposed to be getting the updated flood plain maps from FEMA... in June. By then, there's a good chance we'll know firsthand where the flood plain is.

Grand Forks local share is $83 million...

Cost Estimate: $409 million total (Grand Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN)

Cost for recreational features: $22 million

    Federal cost share: $203 million

Local (GF) cost share: $135 million*

*State of North Dakota is funding 45% of Grand Forks cost share up to $52 million

Local (EGF) cost share: $ 65 million (majority funding from the State of Minnesota)

  4. I know the committee won't be in charge of this, but to reiterate, please no new nickname. We are The University of North Dakota. "The U". Vicariously and unofficially, people can still call us the Sioux. Could merchandisers still produce the logo and sell it, even though it wouldn't be recognized by the NCAA? I don't know the legal ramifications of it. Who owns it officially? The university or the artist?

Bottom line: PLEASE, NO NEW NICKNAME.

    Just my opinion. :D

I like it.... "Here's Your University of North Dakota Fighting U Scoring!!!!!!!!"

  5. My wife said "we should get season tickets with some of our tax refund" tonight ;)

I've never had them and wonder if there's any "inside information" about getting them. I'm new at this, so I have a few questions (two tickets):

    1) What is the time frame

    2) Is there a best time to purchase

    3) Cost per ticket package

    4) Are there any discounts or savings

    5) Any guess where the seats would be

Start at Fightingsioux.com and click on Fighting Sioux Club. The different club levels indicate your scholorship contribution. Then check the link for Seating/Parking to see the sections where your selected club level has seats. According to ticket prices listed on theralph.com, adult season tickets are $355ea. Your total is the scholorship plus ticket price. Not sure if there is a waiting list, you wil need to contact the Fighting Sioux Club.

  6. Lennon was on KNOX this morning. He didn't shed much light on the subject of scheduling. He said they have 10 games scheduled right now, but two of them are "pending". Mentioned road trips to the states of CA, LA, and TX. He did say that they have a contract with every GWFC team for next season, but are ironing out details. Also said they are currently having talks with both Idaho and Wyoming for FBS games starting in 2010 and beyond.

Don't know whether to post this here or on the Facilities Master Plan thread, but Dale also said on KNOX this morning that information will be released soon on developments that have the "WOW" factor and should make the community very proud.

  7. From outward appearances, this seems a very ugly situation. It's got to be hard to get the next job with a situation like this in your wake, whether you are or are not to blame. Therefore, it seems wise and intelligent to bury as many hatchets as possible on the way out.

    Settlement

  8. Before we all get bent out of shape about this settlement let's analyze what would have happened had we won this suit in court.

I'm not up on all the details but I believe this wouldn't have saved the Fighting Sioux nickname necessarily, but would have invalidated the current policy as being improperly instituted.

While the NCAA might have instituted this policy around its normal procedures, it is still possible that after losing the lawsuit they would have gone back to the drawing board, dotted their i's and crossed their t's and we'd be right back here at a later date, bemoaning the probable need to change the nickname (or at least suffer the consequences of continued use).

This settlement gets the NCAA to "take back" the hostile and abusive charge, and some manageable changes to REA if necessary. It also buys some time to work out agreements with the tribes. I'm also concerned with the variable winds that can blow, but let's see if any agreements can be reached, and what those agreements might be before we doom them to failure.

I hate to see the nickname change, but unfortunately I can see too many scenarios where it comes to that regardless of the outcome in court. I'm hoping that the powers-that-be believe they can work something out.

If not, then we move on with our heads held high.

Stenhjem, Earl Strinden & Tim O'keefe were all on the radio this morning and all indicated that the state would win the lawsuit on the improper actions of the NCAA committee. But -- the NCAA has already proposed ammended bylaws that they anticipated would be approved in January that would give the exec committee the authority that they lacked the first time around. The NCAA would then pass essentially the same rule lawfully within its own new bylaws. All three were very confident that by getting the NCAA out of ND business, progress can be made on this issue.

  9. Holy Cross!!! :silly:

    Thank you Engelstad Family!!!!

I know that this was discussed somewhere on this forum before, but about how much annual income will be generated from the $4 million endowment for mens hockey. How close does this bring us to having all mens hockey scholorships funded through an endowment?

  10. I was curious if anyone had some pictures of the ralph they would be willing to share with me. I am brining a hockey team to the twin cities this winter for some tournement and i am trying to convince the parents to drive us up to Grand Forks to see the ralph. I thought a preview would help. PM if you would like to help me out

Here is a site with a lot of pictures.

    The Ralph
