  1. Being from North Dakota, I completely understand the apathy for the Beanpot. I argue all the time that it's not the biggest, greatest tournament of college hockey. However, to be fair -- it IS a great time -- and it is unique to have 4 Division I hockey teams all located in one city. I would much rather have an NCAA title (or the championship trophy from the Dartmouth tournament, at least this year), but I agree that the tournament is rich on tradition. Plus, it's played on the first two Mondays in February! There is a buzz in Boston and it definitely adds excitement to the work week... you even get to leave work early on a Monday...

I've got my tickets, I'm excited and will be proudly displaying my Sioux jersey... as will my boyfriend (he's a Bostonian, a BU season ticket holder and rabid fan of the Sioux).

  2. I was at Dartmouth and never saw that woman protesting in or outside of the arena. The reporters really had to search hard and long to even find a story about the name. TV reporters searched out Sioux and Dartmouth fans to ask them about the name controversy. We politely declined being interviewed (we were worried they would take something we said out of context), but were able to catch the local news after the game. They showed the lady with the sign but said she was the lone protester, and then said that the night was really just about hockey. They interviewed about 4 Sioux fans, and a couple Dartmouth fans who all said positive things about the name. The Dartmouth fans said they had no problem with it. I think the reporters were disappointed.

As for our own experience, the name was really just a footnote at the tournament. Never heard a negative comment. We did overhear one man whisper to the woman next to him that there were Sioux fans in front of them wearing their jerseys (referring to us). The woman next to him said, "Good for them!" (The man went to Dartmouth twenty-some years ago.). The next night, an older gentleman (B.U. fan) walked up to me and said, "Fighting Sioux -- are you okay with that name?" I said, "Yes, I am." He said, "So is everyone else." There were plenty of friendly smiles and really just talk about hockey itself. When I mentioned to the Dartmouth fans next to me Friday night that the Sioux were really struggling this year, they said, "Well, you mean struggling by North Dakota standards." Just as I said, "Yes, struggling by North Dakota standards, " the Sioux scored and they said, "Enough from you..." I must say, though, that winning the tournament there was very, very sweet! The Sioux made their own statement there!!

There was an article in this morning's papers up there that had a reference that bothered me. It was about "the best and worst of the tournament." The "best surprise" was that the the Sioux fans didn't do a tomahawk chop.... But once again, it's reporters not knowing the facts, trying to be clever, but just ending up saying stupid things.

  3. Ok, I can't remember the date exactly, but my favorite game was at home vs. BC. We were down 4-2 going into the 3rd period and we scored 4 unanswered goals to win 6-4.

It was loud, we were proud and Kaltaiinen (BC Goaltender) probably felt like crying. :D

Other than that, being in a seat where I could hold up signs that could be read by the players and viewed easily by the cameras (so I was frequently on the jumbotron) was cool too.

I was at that game, too, and agree it was my favorite at the Ralph. Very electric! I don't remember the exact date (10/18 or 10/19/03?), although remember vividly that it was the night after the Red Sox lost to the Yankees in Game 7 of the ALCS that season. I am a Red Sox fan, so beating B.C. in such dramatic fashion made the sting of Game 7 immediately evaporate...

  4. I'm traveling to Milwaukee but have a friend (Boston native) who is going to wear his Sioux jersey and watch at Champions in Boston. Other Bostonians who are Sioux fans should join him!!

    Go Sioux!

  5. Coop will be in Milwaukee, we talked to him in GF at the Regional. I don't know if he plans to meet the team at the airport but it's very possible.

I'll send him an e-mail and direct him to this thread.

Any luck? Thanks for trying to track him down. I'm traveling solo so want to make sure I can catch up with everyone. Keep me posted ...

  6. I got an email about the UND pep rally before the game on thurs. $10 covers food...ham and turkey sandwiches I think on Thurs and chicken strips on Sat. Last year it was pretty fun, band played, Eddy was there and signed a few (many) autographs. The employees were all decked out in Sioux jerseys. Door prizes. Who's going to that?

Where's the pep rally? Can't miss that! Anyone know anything about the Ambassador Hotel? Is it okay, is location okay? If anyone knows of availability of a hotel closer to the arena, I'd appreciate a shout.

    Thanks.

    Go Sioux!

  7. Coop, are you out there? I suppose you're a member of this board but I wanted to see if you were going to Milwaukee... Always see you at the FFs...and Sioux games out east...

If anyone else knows who I'm talking about and has info, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  8. Trying to bump this up to the top to ditto what North Dakota Hockey said ... those of us living out east would love to go to the UNH/ND games. Any help would be extremely appreciated (season ticket holders can buy). Help... Going through UNH is not working.

  9. Didn't want to start a new thread, but what hotels in GF have shuttle buses to the games? I'm trying to grab tickets to the Northeastern series and am bringing a friend from Boston who's never been to North Dakota. We want to do the town right so I want to make sure we have shuttle service...

Is Red Pepper still the hot pre-game spot in GF? Where else? Suggestions???

    Thanks everyone!

  10. UNH still knows nothing.  UND says they will have tickets only for for season ticket holders, but I expect this will change when they realize the have a bunch extra.

If season ticket holders can get tickets from UND I would be interested in talking with a season ticket holders who is not going to UNH and perhaps get 2 tickets through them.

Same with me. I am hoping to get at least 4 tickets to Saturday evening's game. Help!

  11. A UMaine hockey fan forwarded this to me the other day after we talked about the game when the Sioux wore their specially-made Sioux "Walsh" jerseys and then presented them to the Maine team so that money could be raised for Coach Walsh's medical bills. He just happened to get this email later that day -- it's from the UMaine hockey email list.

"Frustrated Maine fan going to see hockey Last Four in Columbus next week.

"Intending to give full support to the Fighting Sioux in their quest to beat

what could be BOTH teams that beat Maine to end their last two seasons.

"Would love to be adorned with a Walsh-named Sioux jersey whilst in Ohio next

week. Would offer a promise to pay FedEX costs to me, FedEX costs to get it

back to you and a donation to charity of your choice for right to wear as a

rental. Think of it like you are in the tux business....

"We could use a lot of Walshes in Columbus, but I had this idea...There must

be a few of you with a "Walsh" that are not doing the Last Four this year...

"If interested, email reply off-list, but quickly. We leave Saturday morning 3/30 early.

    "Many thanks.

"GO SIOUX (sort of sounds like GO BLUE, huh...)"

  12. I know the BC/BU rivalry pretty well.  BC fans would taunt BU w/signs reading "SUX to BU" while BU would chant "where's YOUR beanpot?" to BC ripping on the Eagles' lack of success in that tournament.  That being said, assuming Denver can beat UNH tomorrow, all I can ask is...

    ...WHERE'S HOCKEY EAST?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was at both games this weekend. At the end of the BU-North Dakota game Friday night, the BU fans (the few of them still there) started chanting to the Sioux players, "Beat BC!"

  13. 5. Will we have BC fans cherring for us?

        GO SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I doubt if many BC fans will even be at the game. They're all talking about Saturday night already -- not sure if they'll even show up for their own game!

Me? Can't wait! Got tickets! Heading to the games in a few hours! Go Sioux!!
