  1. There are many, many people within the oil industry that have been saying, even warning, that the current slump is only temporary. And that North Dakota and the Bakken communities need to be prepared for the second boom that is just down the road.

What this slump has done is created many efficiencies in drilling and production practices. And continued advances in horizontal drilling, equipment, fracking chemicals/techniques have been ongoing. This all leads to the next boom being twice as big and twice as fast.

This slump, while an overnight financial 180° for the region, was needed from an infrastructure standpoint. But now that everyone has had a chance to catch their breath the state can't just sit here and end up in the exact same position where the Bakken communities fall behind again. North Dakota needs to continue to make investing in western NoDak a priority. It can be done in a financially responsible manner. But it definitely needs to be a top priority.

  2. Helms predicts oil will come back ‘with a rush’

    Quote

“This is going to come back pretty hard and pretty rapidly,” Helms said told members of Williston’s Chamber of Commerce. “And we’ll be back running to stay ahead of it.”

Helms told city leaders he projects Williston will support 40,000 permanent oil jobs by 2050, which could mean a population of more than 80,000. Williston’s current population is estimated to be about 30,000.

I've never understood why people are concerned with what other people think of their school - supporting clothing choices.  I wear my UND green and white borat mankini to the beach because I want to; not to elicit a reaction from others.

    Pictures or it never happened.

Do you have 2 years worth of living expenses saved up at all times? That's basically what Cratter is suggesting since North Dakota only holds Legislative sessions every 2 years, and makes their spending decisions during those sessions.

    Yes.

I started working in the oil fields in 2011. I lost my job 6 months ago and am still unemployed. I have lived off of my savings account for half a year already.

I purchased a new truck two years ago and paid over 3/4 of it in cash.

And I have a second savings account that I have a very large amount saved up to eventually use as a large down payment on a house.

I try to always pay at least 50% in cash before financing any major purchases.

    It's calld being financially responsible.

  5. Yes, I always have a majority of the price of something saved up before I buy it. I worked as a personal banker for many years. I have decided to be financially smart instead of financially in debt.

Wait until you have the money in the bank?

What a ridiculous idea. Having money saved up to pay for something before you buy it!!!! Crazy!!!

Looks like the Hawks were too haughty in their play tonight. That's okay I'm feeling pretty haughty after that win

We were just taking one for Josh Fenton and the conference. Trying to help a fourth NCHC team get into the national tournament since that team couldn't get it done on their own.

I am watching the game in cbssn. Can Sharman and the other guy be anymore for Duluth

I think Starman and the rest of the CBS crew is one of the best in hockey. They have always been extremely complimentary of the UND program and the city of Grand Forks. We just haven't given them much to talk positively about today.

  9. The boys just look like they aren't into the game. Maybe the coaches should have stuck with the game day routine and picked the evening game.

Duluth's bear hugs and tackling aren't helping the team get any flow either. I thought the refs were supposed to be putting an emphasis on holding and obstructions.

Hopefully that goal picks them up.

They throw the hang ten hippie sign and shake their hand. Apparently they think it looks like a hawk flying?!?

So . . . are we really on board with referring to UND women's teams as the "Lady Hawks"?

No. It sounds even worse than Fighting Hawks. And it isn't the 60s. Thank Cratter for starting that one.

I'm also not on board with the Hang Ten Hawks the team has started doing.
