Jerry The Great
-
Jerry is a killer Jesus
-
Is this the spot for score predictions? I'm going with 3-14 at halftime KSU with a final score of 16-35 KSU.
-
So is he hurt, or transferring, or neither? lol
-
You’re right. All trans need to be placed in insane asylums. Problem massively improved.

Good points. Outside of just the overall record at the end of the reg season, I think another good gauge for culture change (or lack of) will be how they progress as a team throughout the season. Instead of the same old ups and downs with a general downward trend with a usual really bad loss late in the season, I hope they are at least playing their best ball of the year toward the end. And with QB1 convo included, I hope the same goes for Jerry or whoever it is at that point. I hope they progress and grow confident with a positive overall trend into the end of the year rather than struggling late.

Not to mention UND is predicted to overall have the toughest schedule in the entire FCS. Not exactly a great combo between that and being a first year HC. 6-6 seems pretty good given both those factors honestly. For me, no matter the record, if Schmidt can show he's broken the trend of team's clearly getting worse than the competition as the year goes on, and actually shows they are outpacing the competition in improving as the year goes on, ill be happy. Good recruiting classes coming in, combined with noticable improvements from start to end, and I think it's a great sign for finally heading in the right direction. Winning season with the toughest FCS schedule with a brand new coach just doesnt seem realistic TBH. Props to him+them if they pull it off year 1.

Realistically, I just hope Jerry settles in sometime within the 1st half to ensure the game is competitive. Hopefully he puts together a decent full game against likely the best D he will see all year and it bolsters his confidence and solidifies his spot at QB1 right out of the gate. Dare I say 200yards and 2TDs with 1INT plus a few legit rushes that wash out his mobility "disadvantage" vs JTJ? Maybe the best-case scenario is actually that Jerry does well enough and the game is so close throughout that they dont even dare giving JTJ a chance in this one. Solidify Jerry right off the bat, and just work on some special JTJ packages for when the O need a spark and have a good lever to pull when theyre in a funk.

Special Teams overall has been a bright spot in the past 2 years overall due to long returns, TDs, blocked kicks etc, but kicking and punting specifically has been below average to embarrassing over the past 10 years or so. More often than not the average punt distance has been D3 level, kicking touch backs non existent, missed PATs far too common and FG confidence low. Both can be true at the same time.
-
Absolutely unprecedented for a UND to bring in a DC as a HC. Never been done before. Horrible decision making.

GFhockey didn't warn us that he had an angry oddly spiteful son.

okay fine Dickinson State

Pipe Dream here but how cool would an FBS conference realignment be that created - Both Montana schools, both ND schools, both SD schools, then Wyoming and Nebraska join too for a total of 8 teams. Minnesota would be too prideful to join but maybe them and Mankato could join to make it 10. Fun to dream, but man how much more exciting would every week be playing those teams instead of SIU, Indiana State, Murray state etc....aka teams I honestly never even heard of until 10 or so years ago. And with that said, the benefits of being in the MV are obvious, but I still can't get myself to be excited about playing most of the teams outside of cow college and the SD schools. The Big Sky actually had a lot more relatable teams just IMO, but I understand the move was still a good thing overall.

I can see why you added the "on the road" factor because otherwise their SU records are pretty similar too. UND vs NDSU is 1-6 in that span, and UND vs SDSU is 1-4. Which totals 2-10 for 17% win percentage. USD is 3-7 vs NDSU and 2-8 vs SDSU. Which totals 5-15 for 25% win percentage. But to your point, the on the road factor needs to be fixed badly. Especially due to the fact that deep playoff runs will almost always involve road games. But overall USD and UND are in the same boat in essentially every category and don't belong with the SUs but for whatever reason have been put with them more often than back with UND. At least recently, which might make sense due to their at least somewhat successful recent seasons.
-
Agreed, but in a lot of the pointless banter online, those 3 are named with UND being left out despite USD and UND being far more similar with eachother than either of the SU schools.
-
4 playoff wins in the past decade isn't exactly SU level of a resume. 2017: Won First Round, lost in Second Round → 1 win 2021: Lost in First Round 2023: Won Second Round, lost in Quarterfinals → 1 win 2024: Won Second Round and Quarterfinals, lost in Semifinals → 2 wins
-
Looks like UND is 61-50 over the past decade, and USD is 58-52. UND has made the playoffs 5 times in that span and USD 4 times. USD has 4 playoff game wins in that span and UND only has 2 (someone fact check this). Yes, UND did play half of that in the Big Sky, but overall they have very similar resumes over the past decade but USD will always get the better benefit of the doubt when it comes to rankings and playoff seeding for whatever reason.
-
Yeah I don't get it. I also don't understand how they often squeak into the Cow College and rabbits convos for FBS moves while UND gets left out. Given their similar results, you'd think they would be feeling the same disrespect and negative bias that UND often feels with rankings and playoff spots.
-
He'll have his hands full on Saturday. I'm excited to see how he does.
-
Yes exactly, so when realistic score predictions show to be far different than current spread, it is a likely winner. I don't sports gamble, but it seems the FCS vs FBS games often present obvious high percentage winning opportunities far more often than any other sporting events that I see. Likely due to large numbers of normie college football fans underestimating FCS teams and/or not understanding how small the gap can sometimes get between top FCS teams and FBS teams.
-
With that said, Oregon vs Montana state is at -27.5 and Illinois vs Wester Ill is at -45.5 LOL. Am I crazy thinking I should take all these bets as easy lay up wins.
-
Over/Under is currently sitting at -25.5?! Jesus. Despite a new coaching staff, new defense, and tons of new starters, I think week 1 UND will be a better team than final week UND last year due to morale, leadership and injuries. Guessing they will keep it a decent football game until the 4th and lose by 2 scores or so. Maybe 34-17 or somewhere in that ballpark. I need to find a sports betting app asap. Iowa State vs USD is at -14.5 which sounds more realistic and is what I was expecting for K state and UND. Guessing it will be closer to -20 by game time.
-
Who says it's not the mentality? The game hasn't even been played yet and you're already asking why we didn't do something? Also, if we're planning to just run it down their throat then why does the QB situation even matter? This is truly getting bizarre my man...what are we even talking about right now And this is coming from a pessimistic frustrated fan. But I can at least say I complain about real things that have really happened
-
Seems like you just want to mad about something TBH. There’s been zero qb announcement, let alone even decent evidence what they’re doing yet. Tom floated the guess of seeing more than 1 QB in game one and some Twitter anon states his guess and here you are just pissed LMAFO.
-
How about we just wait to see what they say Monday? Maybe they did solidify a QB1, we have no idea yet. I’m not going to get worked up about what some Twitter anon is guessing lol
