  1. Is there any good reason for anyone to compare the UND hockey program to any other program on campus? It is one of the best, most renowned programs in the country. Neither football nor any other program is.

Doesn't mean I don't hope football will become that (and I believe it can) but the fan base for hockey is well established and night games in the Ralph are parties for lots of college students.

I believe a few of these seniors are the last Mussman recruits.  They stuck with it through good and bad...good luck to all of them in their collective futures!

    Great props to them.

    Which are Bubba's first recruits?

That was my point.  What do we think is going on that 3 members of the UND football team have been arrested by a drug task force in the last 6 months?  It is not like they were all pulled over in a car and they had a baggie of weed and were busted.

And I pointed out that the others in the house should be exonerated as it's highly likely EVERY room in that house was searched. Simply being on a team with 3 guys who are busted does not mean all or any of the others are dealing with them. I bet if they were we'd have heard about it by now in other charges being filed. It's too easy to say that those guys are the tip of the iceberg and I don't think I'm being naïve.

I don’t think anyone expects 85? young men to all be angels, but there is lots of crap going on that is not conducive to being a focused football team.

I bet when you got your dui yiu had tempted fate dozens if not hundreds of times, maybe it was a fluke but it usually is not.  We have had 3 out of 85 players arrested for drug dealing in the last 6 months in two separate incidences.  Think about that and use the same probablilities.

Well...as for probabilities, I have friends who have never been arrested but who drink and drive quite often, in fact, more often than me. 3 out of 85 doesn't seem like a lot. Are you saying there should be more because more are using?

It should be to the point where the players are scared to death of letting down their coaches, teammates, or school. To a certain extent that comes from within but a standard needs to be set from the top and supported by the team through accountability.

No doubt. But it still happens. Look at the hockey program- a few years ago they had Kristo, Frattin et al in trouble. S8it happens.

    Who was talking about family?

As far as the season, there are always reasons other than dumb luck for a collapse like we have experienced this season.  Most of the injuries could not have been avoided however the rest of the debacle including the poor game planning, adjustments and execution, the arrests, the discipline problems, the lack of focus and all of the games missed by multiple players for phantom reasons that are never explained or reported on, that is all on Bubba and his staff.

I just don't know how you avoid young men from getting in trouble and that can include arrests. I was in my 40's when I got arrested for a DUI (got a Miracle and got out of it) but this type of thing happens all over and I don't think a coach can be the Guardian Angel to all his players.

... but, but, but ... one more year, please ...

    Got to love that attitude.

I'll be taking a dirt nap by the time UND football makes it back to the playoffs. I'm just asking for raised expectations and for people to put their money where their mouth (typing) is. I donate in order to see a proud winning program belonging to my alma mater, not a hesitant overly-modest roller coaster of a program. Let's hope this year is just a fluke.

This season is over and done with after Saturday, I agree with that much. What should happen to rectify the situation and the 2018 expectations is a different situation and is interesting. Better coaches and players is an obvious answer but I think it's also legitimate. Bubba shouldn't and won't go anywhere. Changes can be made beneath him.

People don't want to hear but it is what it is. Let's see how Saturday goes and then on to productive, proactive changes for 2018.

Your last points are already being presented and discussed at the Fire RUDY post. I think most agree with that, though I've frequently said that Rudy is doing what Bubba wants and you have to look to him as you look at Rudy. If that's all you seek we are in agreement.

I don't know how old you are or if you have some terminal condition, but I hope, for your sake and the team's, you get to see a playoff game.

So what's the plan now with Reyes' eligibility expired and Harris' post-injury ability in question? Blame the injuries for any of 2018's potential flaws? You can only attribute so much of this to injuries. I'm sorry you feel it is that simple, but then again, some find solace in thinking that way. UND's senior QB and two all-conference RBs have been healthy all season. Studsrud's receiving corps returned intact from 2016 and those guys have played in most all the games. In the preseason, UND's offensive line was looked at as bening more experienced relative to 2016. Heck, the defensive line (which was supposed to be the strength of the defense) has been deep and remained healthy all season.

All in all, I think this team has bought into this injury explanation as much as some gullible fans have, and as such, mailed it in a few games ago. The second half of this season has been embarrassing and it goes beyond injuries. It extends to the young guys (who are available) putting in the work and the coaches guiding them along the way to improve game by game. I haven't seen much improvement; in fact, its been quite the roller coaster ride in that regard. This season has been horrid, but that is only partially due to injuries. The injury situation has revealed several other deficiencies within this program. To think everything will be just fine in 2018 while going about the same flawed tactics is insanity. I think we've witnessed how UND and Bubba handle success, and its not good. There needs to adjustments to the way everyone in the program goes about their business (and the health of the players is only part of that).

You've made up your mind and no one will change it and that's fine-you're free to believe and feel what you want.

You said you don't want regime change but it seems you really do. Again, that's fine to have that opinion.

Please stop telling the rest of us we're nuts for NOT wanting regime change. You say the injury situation has revealed other deficiencies in the program. and my response is the same: We are playing guys who were NOT expected to play this year. We are at times playing guys out of position (Nevermann is still playing LB). You'll say the recruiting sucks because we didn't have ready backups. I just don't see how a coach can plan to have so many guys in such keys spots.

Again, IF next year, with guys healthy, ends like this year, you will have MANY on this board joining you for a regime change.

I know what you're thinking...Harris had a solid year last year...his jr. season with the aid of a much better front 7 than we have this year. but I'm going extrapolate and say, he too would have taken a couple of steps back this year. We keep using injuries as a crutch for the play this year. I disagree.

You don't believe the hype of being voted a top 5 DB in the division?

You know what, I'm sick and tired of hearing you tell me I lack expectations for our football team.  This is about the 45th time you've said that in the past month.  If you are going to say that 5 times a week for the next 9 months, maybe you should start a separate thread for it and you and a couple of others can banter back and forth the entire off season about how low UND's expectations for all of our programs other than hockey is.    #BrokenRecord

I've never been the rose colored glasses guy, but my expectations for this team are clear:

I expect that in his time here, Blubaugh (Using him because he's been a big part of the conversation) will be on a National Championship team. This season DOES NOT change my expectations.

What? I ain’t heard that McElwain was let go unless it happened today.  He is on the edge. SEC coaches win games or else. Maybe he would like a job in the tundra.

I've lived in ND all of my 54 years, but if I had a taste of Florida, I don't think I'd want to go to ND

Injuries combined with lack of girth and strength on the D line. When we can hold our own on the line, we do okay; but when we are getting pushed off the ball on offense and defense it amplifies other weaknesses.

I don't disagree. We are getting pushed off the line, but IF we had the bigger, better, stronger LB's, those deficiencies would be mitigated.

  13. 1 minute ago, Old School Guy said:

They all have potential; he was beaten for big plays constantly in 2015, but he bounced back last year and had a much better year..  I think the pressure up front in 2016 made the back end look better than what they actually were.

No doubt. Going back to injuries, the LB's being hurt are the worst in this D. No run stoppage from the LB's affects the whole D.

I'd have to agree with geaux_sioux on this one. Harris was getting taken to the wood shed constantly in 2015. The Montana game and Idaho State games come to mind. But he was allowed to stay on the field the entire game.

True, but I felt even then, that he had potential. Please do NOT show the Bison game. It was awful and he was chasing WR's a lot.

No one is suggesting that this year hasn't been a complete and total disaster. But your solution is Regime Change. That is what I disagree with. I say we bounce back next year and surprise a lot of people.

Me too, and I know UND-FB-FAN said he understands the injuries, but doesn't want us to make excuses.

If this team had Reyes, Harris and the others playing MOST of the year and were giving up 40 ppg I'd be all over it.  We aren't talking about regime changes without the injuries as I believe that without the injuries this team would have been a LOT better.

    I hope!

I would bet Haas will improve against the run with more experience and another 20lbs. 220 at 6'5" is still pretty skinny.

Really skinny but he just seems to be too upright (I know his height enhances that perception) but he plays so high that it's easy for a OL to get his helmet into his chest. Yes, a 6'5" guy at 240 is harder to block, but if he doesn't fill out, use his speed on the edge. In my view.

  17. I would put Rodgers on the OLB and let him rush the passer and he can cover too. Haas is weak v the run so I'm hoping at the end he rushes the QB better next year. But they are interchangeable.

You're right Murray is a Sr. I forgot Bungum too.

  18. I hope our opinion will change by this time next year.

I'm looking at the following as starters (Pure speculation)

Cieslak, Tank and Ott on the line

Rodgers, Larson, Cam Hunt and Palmborg as LB's

Harris, Turner (Safety-you saw the speed on KR yesterday) Canady and Holm/Hunt

Morrison for Tank on the Nose. Bennett, Haas, Sequin, Honerlaw and Greer in reserve

Rastas, Geier (though I really don't know what he does well) and Murray in reserve. Could move Turner to LB too.

Blubaugh, Shannon and Stewart in reserve

Didn't even mention Steiger, Richman, Carter Wilson and Nevermann

In light of the injuries, a Juco at LB with size wouldn't hurt nor would a Frosh or two.

    Better?
