Unbelievable. Verbatim from your first post...  "Got a lot of ink but left no legacy. We don't need any more short timers like that, especially the injury prone type. One and done or two and flew programs don't win championships."

When you tear down a specific player, you cannot be talking about a general concept.

Reading comprehension, yeah, ok. You just got caught looking silly because you called out a kid who was a heart and soul guy, and so you pivoted to a general concept to try and make yourself look better.

Whatever, dude. All good in the hood.

There was no tearing down of Jake. He was a great talent and really disappointing that he was such a short timer. Played maybe the equivalent of a season. As fans, we all wanted to see more of him. You're the one who pivoted. Smart people like Oxbow6 understood my point exactly. You, on the other hand....

Wrong again Stoner. DM me, I'll send you the name of a reading comprehension tutor I know.

No it wasn't. That was EXACTLY my point. I understand UND offers reading comprehension classes. Take 'em up.

"To me the biggest disappointment in recent years has been Jake Sanderson. Came and went. Flash in the pan. Played the equivalent of a season and a half for the Sioux. Got a lot of ink but left no legacy. We don't need any more short timers like that, especially the injury prone type. One and done or two and flew programs don't win championships."

Here the original post, stoner. Now tell me again what I really meant? I'll wait. Oxbow6 seemed to comprehend it, but you floated off on some lame azz tangent that tells me you have serious reading comprehension issues.

Like @gfhockey states this program needs blue chippaz. Sanderson was that. UND doesn't get those guys as much anymore. He was going to be a NHL star whether he played one season or two at UND. I think @ND_Texan point is that when UND gets a talent like Jake and he's here for two seasons and plays roughly half of the games in that time frame it is a disappointment......not in him but in his lack of putting a stamp on this program while he was here. No fault of his own but you can't make an impact when you don't play. He was easily one of the most talented players I've watch at UND but he left without a NCAA win.

Absolutely exactly right. Such a great talent who left here with hardly leaving a mark. I enjoyed the hell out of watching him play, albeit a very short period of time. So very unfortunate...and yes, disappointing.

HAHAHAHA no, no you weren't. You pivoted when you got caught in a dumb train of thought. Goodness.

Again, he can still go back to school or finish school online, in the offseason.

Sure are, but how many of them are as good as Jake Sanderson? You're wholly ignoring how good this kid is. It's absolutely stupid to encourage a kid at that talent level to stay for years in college with all the resources online schooling has.

If he were my kid, I damn sure would. I guess we just have a difference in values.

So, you're saying if a player plays in the NHL for 10 years, that voids getting a degree? They'll never get anywhere in life without the degree? Very confusing. There's hundreds of examples of players playing the NHL for a large career and then being successful in life.

And so what if he doesn't get his degree? Isn't the point of a degree to get a job to build generational wealth? Couldn't he do that in the NHL?

    This conversation is wild.

LOL. Yeah hundreds of examples out of many many thousands....:lol::lol:. And yeah it's possible he could built huge wealth in the NHL if he has a lasting injury-free career. You do understand there's risk there, right? Why not take advantage of a 4-year college degree and mature as an adult in doing so? A kid's brain isn't fully developed until they are 25 or so. They need some adults to assist them until then. Seriously bud, there are a lot of hockey players that regret leaving too soon.

UND should hire you to do their recruiting! You'd convince a Top 5 NHL draft pick to get his degree instead of passing up million upon millions of dollars and immediate NHL playing time. Especially in an environment where a player could get their degree online or during the offseason. You'd convince them to stay.

Feels like you're in it for the best interest of the kid. Helluva job you'd do.

Yup dude, it's all about the Benjamins. A college degree will never get you anywhere in life after getting banged around the NHL for ten years if you're lucky. It's never a bad time to impress upon a kid that it's not all about him, if his parents hadn't already.

Tbh we're so far apart it doesn't merit a discussion.  If you don't want to recruit Jake Sandersons to UND I have nothing for you.

Such a silly thing to say. Of course I'd recruit a Jake Sanderson...with the presence to persuade him to mature and strengthen as an upperclassman and help win a championship.  Not to mention college degrees are a pretty special thing to have, especially when they are free. Again, how did Duluth and Denver win natty's three out of the last four years?

Lol, you're going to fault Sanderson for that? Really? It is just how it panned out. C'est la vie. Especially considering his first season was the POD year which was shortened and out of his control. Boeser and Nick Schmaltz are examples of your "two and flew." You do win championships with those players. I'd say they were critical players in winning #8.

I didn't say it was Sanderson's fault. Geesh, I said he was a disappointment. His injuries and short time status were.

  10. 7 minutes ago, InHeavenThereIsNoBeer said:

The fact that you think it has to be one or the other is laughable.  Wait, wasn't Schmaltz a flashy player? Wasn't Boeser a flashy player? We must have really lucked into that title.

I want guys that have a ton of skill and stay 2-3 years in addition to 4 year guys that set the culture of the team.

To answer your question, yes I want flashy players who can carry the puck up the ice by themselves, create highlight game winning goals, AND will just as easily dive across the freakin crease to keep a goal out of our net to advance to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.  And in doing so, slice their hand so far open they can't play most of their first season in the NHL.

Give me all of those "flashy players"

You haven't answered why Duluth and Denver have won those three recent championships. Hint: they didn't do it with freshmen. Why have those programs been able to keep players for 3 or 4 years?

  11. To me the biggest disappointment in recent years has been Jake Sanderson. Came and went. Flash in the pan. Played the equivalent of a season and a half for the Sioux. Got a lot of ink but left no legacy. We don't need any more short timers like that, especially the injury prone type. One and done or two and flew programs don't win championships.

Man you have seen something way different with Farmer than I have. He has been the most disappointing player for me this season. Thought he would bring much more offense, puck moving, and just overall smart decisions but instead he has been a turnover machine.

Yeah Farmer turnover cost us the game against Duluth.

Our D has got to do a better job of clearing out the front of our net.  Western was standing in front of our net tipping pucks and getting sticks on rebounds all game because our defense were not clearing the Western players from in front of our net.  Gonna be a long game if we don't clear out the front of our net.

This is where we lost the game to WMU for certain. Hopefully the coaches have had them working on that this week. Notre Dame is bigger than us so it has to be stressed. Also clearing the zone is huge. Notre is very good at capitalizing on clearing and breakout turnovers.

Coming into today, I wanted to avoid four teams for as long as possible -- DU, Western, Minnesota, and UMD. I'm happy with our draw. With that said, Notre Dame isn't a fantastic draw for us. Very, very good defensively. They pressure the puck like crazy and are a fast, hard team. I've seen them play against Michigan (went 4-0 against the PWR No. 1) and they forecheck and back check like demons. Not a dominant offensive team, but incredibly sound. I would have preferred to play UMass, but c'est la vie.

UND is gonna need to play the with the pace they carried against Western in the third period on Friday, which is the same pace we carried against them in our sweep of them a few weeks back and when we swept Duluth. If we get that game, I think we move on.

Mankato is very good, but not as good as they were last season, IMO. Harvard's puck moving D is going to give them a run.

I like our chances. If we play our game, speed, short passing, effort... I think we have a great chance to head to Boston.

I’ve watched Notre Dame play several times this season. They are strong forecheckers and score a lot on forced turnovers. Strong defensively, giving up barely over 2 goals per game. Not a strong offense as you said, and one of the weakest power plays in the Big 10. The team that scores two will likely win this game. Three for sure. I like our chances too.

UMD fan in front of me last night is no doubt shocked right now that her Bulldogs are not a #1 seed.  Oh, she’s likely disappointed as well that 4 other NCHC teams are in the tournament along with Duluth as she was certain it was just going to be her boys and Denver in there.

Crack is taking Duluth by storm I hear.
