  1. I think you're right, you don't hear NHL people and sport page columnist from NHL cities complaining about UND's recruits not developing and getting better like some other schools. Cough, Cough, Cough!!!

Just curious, in the history of their programs, does anyone knows how many UND players have been drafted in the NHL compared to Minnesota and how many of those players played in the NHL?

  2. I think the issue is that it shows a lack of sporting respect. I'm sure tDon was disappointed and pi$$ed off about losing and about getting physically beaten up, but he needs to show good sportsmanship. If the coaches don't lead by example, the league could easily degenerate into thuggery.

It doesn't matter one way or another, and I know that Hak flipped the bird, etc. etc. But a coach should not disrespect a player, he needs to be bigger than that. Think about how much you despise him, but shake his hand and go to the locker room.

I also think it shows Hexy really, really got into their minds...I wonder what type of smack he talks to have officials think he is a lunatic and to have opposing coaches refuse to shake his hand.

    [/quote

I agree with the sportsmanship thing talk about. Thats's the one thing that's great about sports, you kick the crap out of each other during the game but after the game you show respect for each other and shake their hands. If Lucia did indeed not shake Hextal's hand I would be the first person to say that is BS but I saw what I saw and he indeed shake his hand.

  3. So let me get this right: Papa Lucia didn't shake Hexy's hand, and Baby Lucia hacked at a fan with his stick in the tunnel after the game eh?

    CLASSY!

Anyone have a picture or video of this? AKA: Proof?

Your right there was probably no video or proof of it so, I saw Lucia shake hands but somebody else said they didn't,

    that's the way it is.

  4. And you watched Don Lucia specifically through the entire handshake line?

I've got it on word that it was even on one of the cameras and the decision was quickly made not to show it.

Also, I loved when during the preamble the FSN geniuses labeled it as a goalie battle and showed Kangas'goals allowed in the series, completely ignoring the fact that he was hooked in the third on friday.

Your right I did not watch Lucia thru the entire handshake line but I did see him shake Frattin and Hextall's hand. I purposely watched Frattin go thru the line to see if anything was going to happen in regards to the hit he put on Wehrs. Hextall happened to be two or three players behind him in the line and they both shook the Gopher players hands and Coach Lucia's hand and his assistants.

  5. WOW, if thats accurate then it just goes to show how thin-skinned this Gopher program has become. I could possibly see him not shaking hands with Frattin as upset as Lucia was but why Hextall? I know he's good at talking smack but geez. Pretty unprofessional on Dons part as well......if it indeed did happen.

It's not accurate, I was at the game and saw the handshake. Every player from both sides shook the opposing coaches hand without any incident.

  6. I'm sorry you took that seriously. That was a joke. It didn't happen.

Furthermore I think that if you were to abandon an adult at the Mall of America they'd probably have the ability to find their way home without even a breadcrumb trail.

I hate it when you have to explain.

I realized it was a joke. I get that you don't like the Gophers and that's fine but we are not

talking about a hockey game this is real life and if you want to make jokes about it

that's sad. Before you say lighten up consider if this was happening to your family or close friend.

  7. I've heard that asking a coke addict to quit snorting is the same as asking a sober person to quit breathing. Still, after he has presumably lost everything (job, money, family, self respect, etc.) how do you not check yourself into rehab?

How has he presumably lost family?

  8. I don't know if anyone has posted on this yet or talked about it but at the end of Friday nights game between the Gophs and Badgers, Lucia was asked on the difference between the rivalries of UND v. MN and MN v. UW. He responded in saying that he respects the Gopher v. Badger rivalry more than the UND v. MN because it is not as "vicious". This is pin-up material for the Sioux if there ever was one. It certainly reflects in how the Gophers play. I have still yet to see one of there defenseman hit anybody yet.

I believe he is saying that Badger fans are not as vicious as Sioux fans in regards to the swearing that ocurrs at the arena. He

is not referring to the players.

  9. If that is the case, then the league must pay all teams hotel (and probably travel too) out of the tourney proceeds, which makes some sense. That does nothing for the fans, bands, or cheer teams, however, and the travel to St. Paul still involves considerably more effort from all the other teams. The john is what, two miles from St. Paul city limits? Give me a break. I have also heard Donnie hairpile say that the golden ones always stay in a hotel for the tourney. Makes it easy to continue in the pretense that it is not a de facto home game for his team if he doesn't have to draw funds from his department in order to do it. Scott Hennen (former Sioux rink announcer), has been the secondary announcer at least a couple of times. The john rink announcer has generally been the primary one for the tourney and he hasn't earned it based on merit - he is horribly monotone and just plain excrutiating to have to listen to - he isn't fit to speak into Hennen's microphone. I admit that having the tourney at the Excel favors the entire league membership, it just favors UMN above all others. I don't expect every UMN fan to admit to this, but I think it reasonable to have 90-95% admit to it - instead it is closer to 5-10%. Just another manifestation of the rampant sense of unearned entitlement nearly all UMN fans seem to have - and is the real reason they are almost universally held in disdain. Nice try skippy, but it don't wash.

Relax Damstrait (notice I called you by your name, I did not resort to name calling, as in skippy) I'm just responding to your statement that UMN does not have to pay for travel. By your statement it seems that you implied that UMN was the only team that does not pay for travel. As for the announcer, you are entitled to your opinion but I'm not a big fan how Hennen draws out the players last name, again this is my opinion. I agree Minnesota does have an advantage when it comes to travel with fans and cheer teams but if the tourney was held in Milwaukee, Denver, or Omaha would you complain that Wisc, DU and Omaha would have a unfair advantage like you say Minnesota has because it is held in St. Paul?

  10. He does not have a valid point - he is disingenuous because as a UMN fan he can say that and support what are de facto home games for his team at the Xcel Energy Center - his team, their fans, band, and cheer team do not have to pay for or put any effort into any travel - they even have the UMN rink announcer there for that tourney, for Pete's sake (wouldn't want the golden ones to feel too out of place now, would we?). He also would not admit as much because he lacks integrity. He is nothing but an UND hating troll on this site. I wouldn't expect you to pick up on any of this as it has already been repeatedly established that you know nothing about WCHA hockey.

During the final five the top two seaded teams stay at the St.Paul hotel and the other teams stay at another hotel ( used to be the Raddison hotel but not sure what it is called now) so, if Minnesota stays at one of these hotels who pays for the hotel since you say they don't have to pay for any travel? Also, you do realize UND's announcer is one of the announcers during the final five.

  11. I wouldn't wish an addiction on any one and that anyone suffering from addiction are able to recover. I have been told by people that fight addiction that it is a daily fight. I only hope Dubay can get it together and beat this thing.

We might have had our differences on hockey topics, but on this topic you and 7>5 are dead right. We are not talking about a

hockey team or rivalries, we are talking about a real life situation that he is dealing with. Jeff is a good guy and hopefully he can beat this thing.

  12. Please! I guess if you want a moral victory knock yourself out. The last time I checked this was Sioux Sports, Not Bisionville.com or Gopher Puck live. The fact remains Buckysieve is a message board troll that hides behind a fake moniker that polices threads on Sioux sports that doesn't give his Gophers any love. The fact remains if he want to read a message board that is friendly towards the Rodents he can take his butt over to Gopher Puck Live. I don't remember when signing up where it said we have to give Golden Chokers props.

Thanks Goon, I'll take the victory that you admit you cannot be objectice. By the way, I wouldn't use the Golden Choker remark considering your recent history in your past frozen fours.

  13. Run along skippy this is a Sioux Sport forum, the Gopher love feast is over at GPL.

In the 2009 playoff hockey thread you said that Dave K has to resort to name calling when he loses an argument, so I guess by calling Bucksieve a skippy you lost this argument about being objective.

  14. don't know if you and h1 are the same girl, but you both certainly spew the same bs

Since you seem to know some much about me what is the same bs i spew?. Also,

why did you make this personal? This started out by me asking Goon a question then

you start taking personal shots at me.

  15. I believe Goon has some family ties to Gopher hockey, and I wouldn't expect him to name names. Probably with much better rumor connections than you.

That's a pretty bold statement considering you don't even know me. If Goon doesn't want to name names that's fine.

  16. Let me give you an assist, Goon. Not that you need my help.

Jim Souhan wrote an article that appeared in Star-Tribune on March 12, 2009. Clocks might be winding down on Lemaire, Lucia. Here is some of what Souhan wrote:

We thought we were set for life with our two big-time hockey coaches. We were wrong.

A couple of years ago Jacques Lemaire, the only coach in Wild history, and Don Lucia, winner of two national titles at the U, probably could have signed lifetime contracts. Today, locking up Lemaire might prove impossible, and locking up Lucia might be inadvisable.

Lucia is in the midst of another season of soft play and mediocre results from the once-dominant Gophers. By this time next year, Lemaire probably will be sunning himself in Florida, and Lucia could be feeling a different kind of heat.

If Lemaire were less diplomatic, he might publicly blame his bosses for the Wild's dearth of talent. Lucia can make no such excuses -- he's responsible for a program that is becoming known for soft defensive play and spotty goaltending.

Lucia was sidelined by an illness earlier this season. That, combined with his legacy, ensures that he'll receive the benefit of the doubt for at least another year.

Lemaire is probably as good as gone. Lucia has plenty of methods and resources with which to right his powerful program, but he might not have as much time as he thinks.

Personally, I think Lucia is one of the better coaches in the country and has a lengthy list of accomplishments few others have.

    Diggin,

I don't know if you follow Souhan writings or heard him speak about hockey but he is no different than Ruesse when it comes to hockey - He hates it!. He has said mutltiple times that he knows nothing about hockey yet alone like it. The man is entitled to his opinion but when it comes to hockey knowledge or having inside info on Lucia or the Gopher program I highly doubt it.

I'm not saying that I am an expert but I go to every home and away game and I have never seen him at a game and I do know some people within the program and they have said that they have never seen him at practices or around the facility. So when it comes to Gopher hockey his credibility is very thin. Also, I don't think Souhan is one the people that Goon is referring to when he says that he has heard from other people that Lucia would have been fired if it was not for his illness. Goon has referred not to comment on who these "other people are" and I guess that is his choice.

  17. That maybe true but I keep hearing through other people as well that some big time alums want Blaiser to coach the Gophers. I also heard that the illness that Lucia suffered this season was the only thing that kept him from getting fired. You do have to wonder after a time if there is a movement underfoot? I also don't think there are a lot of us that HATE Lucia. There is a difference than despising a rival as opposed to hating a human being. Personally I think Lucia is doing a great job in Minnesota and don't want to see Blais as the coach of the Gophers.

Who are these other people you talk about?

  18. At least the kids who are currently in college can actually remember when UND's title was won. NDSU needs to dust the cobwebs off those old trophies of theirs. Yeah, the Bison once had a great football team... so did the Oakland Raiders. Where are they now? When was the last time they so much as hosted a single playoff game? Did we have internet and cell phones back then?

Atleast Bison football has history and tradition when it comes to titles, something the Sioux football team cannot claim.

  19. If the name goes, I say the nickle goes with it. It stays right where it is. Start a new traveling trophy. NDSU is used to that.

How is UND's trophy case looking? pretty bare I would guess considering they only won 1 NCAA football title, while NDSU'S case is full of 7 NCAA titles :D

  20. According to what most people are interpreting, the reason Denver, CC and Anchorage are having a problem with Bemidji being accepted in the WCHA is because of the travel these three schools would have to ancurr. If the WCHA does find a 12th team ( UNO or NMU ?) how with this change the minds of these three schools since Bemidji will still be a problem in terms of travel.
