  1. I think we are really splitting hairs here Helgeson may not have taken his gloves off and punched him but if you watch the video, you can click on the small box on the bottom on the right you will see that Helgeson cross checked him and punched him with his glove on.

Out of curiosity, if an opposing team was taking some cheap shots against some Sioux players and Ben Blood had enough of it and started to mix it up with a opposing player, would you be OK with that?

  2. It happened. Just because you didn't hear one sioux player saying it happened doesn't mean it didn't. I didn't see it happen either, like EVERYONE has said, it happened AWAY from the play. Unless it was right in front of you, more than likely you were watching the freaking puck. I know it happened because I heard it straight from the horse's mouth. I have a hard time believing a person would lie about being speared. If you don't believe us, you can go over to GPL and talk with those morons. They'll agree with you.

I will be the first to admit it was a cheap play if anyone can show evidence it happened. Its just funny Trupp never publically said it in the media.

  3. I also saw it from my seat. The camera's didn't pick it up since it was away from the play as Trupp was going off for a line change.I had taped the game and watched it when I got home and like I said it wasn't caught on camera, but Woog did reference it and knew what was going down with Jones and Lucia shortly after it happened when he said and I quote "Lucia HAS to go here"

You have the internet you can google it yourself.

You couldn't find it either, huh?

  4. I saw it from my seat... I love how Gopher fans think it didn't happen.

Its funny how you were the only one to see the so`- called spear and not one camera showed it or referee that saw it. Also, I don't remember one sioux player saying it happened. If one did I would like to see the quote or some kind of evidence it happened.

  5. Read this to get a clue on the importance of TV rights:

    http://espn.go.com/d...onal-tv-revenue

The WCHA didn't have Tier I or Tier II TV contracts (except for the Final Five) - only Tier III, which are owned by schools. Maturi didn't want the WCHA to have Tier I or Tier II TV contracts, as that allowed Goldie to have a bigger Tier III contract, which Goldie didn't have to share with anyone.

It takes a supermajority to make significant changes in a league - like firing McLeod. Maturi could always protect McLeod by pressuring the four Minnesota minnies to follow his line.

Same kind of crap happened in the Big 12 as in the WCHA: Texas got what it wanted in the past. But, finally, to keep the Big 12 conference together (as Texas had no other options ), Oklahoma and the other schools finally got what they wanted: Beebe was fired as Big 12 Commissioner (he was seen as being in Texas' pocket), and all TV revenue (except Tier III) will be shared equally.

Minnesota wielded even more power in the WCHA compared to Texas in the Big 12. Minnesota hates the idea of the B1G hockey, because Minnesota is mostly viewed as a parasite in that conference (except in hockey), so it can't wield any real influence anymore like it did in the WCHA.

You have some interesting opinions, and your entitled to them, so I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that Minnesota had control of McLeod and the rest of the WCHA.

  6. For Minnesota, it wasn't any conspiracy. Just "normal" business to employ incompetent people, and still make a weekly run to the bank. Minnesota didn't want the B1G for hockey.Still doesn't. But the BTN forced in on them, over Maturi's crying. Minnesota has all the capabilities that Wisconsin has athletically - yet Minnesota is such a joke compared to them in everything. Why? Alvarez demands excellence in everything. Minnesota doesn't, and the results show.

If Maturi had wanted McLeod gone, Maturi would have called up the other four regional Minnie schools and joined UND, DU, and CC (which wanted McLeod gone long ago) in voting him out.

Why didn't Minnesota get rid of McLeod long ago? Simple answer: McLeod's lack of any vision and lack of administrative ability for the WCHA served Minnesota perfectly.

I agree Wisconsin has had Minnesota number in Football ( Basketball and Hockey have been a wash in head to head games) but if Minnesota has been a joke to Wisconsin in " Everything" why has Minnesota beat Wisc in the border battle ( head to head competition in all sports played )for the past three years in a row.

If Minnesota had such a strong hold on the WCHA leadership , what does that say about the other members in the league , including UND leadership for letting this happen.

  7. In most respects, Minnesota wanted weak central leadership in the WCHA. By keeping the leadership weak and archaic (no real business plan for TV, limited social media, archaic website), Minnesota was the school that benefited almost exclusively from its own television contract with no sharing required. McLeod's banana republic leadership of the WCHA served Minnesota well - Minnesota didn't have to share or hand over any of their home games to a conference contract. The four regional Minnesota schools were too fearful of Minnesota's political power to seriously question things. Anchorage and Tech were just happy to be in. Wisconsin even threatened to leave for the CCHA out of disgust. Alvarez at Wisconsin, say what you want about him, had a low tolerance for incompetence and conference cronyism - which is one reason he wanted to get the h*** out of the WCHA. Maturi at Minnesota, on the other hand, as long as the $'s are coming in, he doesn't care about excellence. See Goldie hockey, football, basketball.

If the WCHA had installed leadership that would have brought the WCHA into the 21st century with actual regular season TV contracts, Minnesota would have lost power and money. Minnesota needed to keep McLeod around to keep the conference weak - to keep the conference more like a 1970's scheduling association than a modern conference. McLeod's incompetence served Minnesota's purposes very well. It's too bad that Minnesota, by endorsing McLeod over all these years, has now effectively forced McLeod on Bemidji and Mankato at a time when those two schools deserve so much better.

The NCHC will be a real conference, with strong competent central leadership (hopefully), with a real business plan, with a real TV contract, run by business professionals with a passion for hockey.

OMG, Wasn't aware Minnesota controlled the WCHA website, social media, TV contracts. Yes, Minnesota has a nice TV contract but that was something they set up with the BTN network and FSN just like UND set up their tv contract with FSSN and FSC ( I think that is what it is called) How did Minnesota stop other schools from doing the same thing. McLeod may have been a clown in some peoples eyes but to say Minnesota was pulling his strings is interesting to say the least.

I have to hand it to you it is a nice conspiracy theory.

  8. I have a hard time believing that.

You might want to ask your AD about it then. I have been to many away blueline luncheons and the Minnesota rule is

brought up from time to time and each AD or coach who is talking at the luncheon says we vote in favor of the rule for the gate revenue. All members in the WCHA share in the final five revenue regardless if they are in the final five or not. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do but for financial reasons it is what they do.

  9. It was known that Notre Dame had already signed a regional TV deal for Notre Dame's sole benefit. The NCHC was certainly willing to live with that, if the contract was modified to allow the conference to "own" a couple of those games for the benefit of the conference. Notre Dame must have said no, and the NCHC must have walked away and felt they couldn't deal with a school that is all about itself and no one else.

The WCHA was a league run for and by Minnesota, the CCHA was a league run for and by the Michigan Big Ten schools. What schools from either league would go back into a poor relationship with a league run for Notre Dame's interests? They all learned their lessons. In this case, ND won't even provide the fans for a conference tournament.

Can you please elaborate on this statement " The WCHA was a league run for and by Minnesota "

  10. Personally, I think the coaches had an inkling about what direction he was going to go. How could they not, considering the bloodlines? It's probably why they offered him the scholarship in the summer. The Gophers don't usually offer stuff to Minnesota kids too early since they (in my opinion) are arrogant enough to think they can get any Minnesota kid they want. (Which, history shows, is kind of true).

Nothing against Vinni, but if I had to pick between the other names mentioned, he wouldn't be first on my list. There were 2-3 other players on his own team last year that I liked better. He's just a little inconsistent at times IMO.

Siouxforce 19, You have your opinion and I respect that but I was wondering where you heard that the Gophers don't offer scholarships too early to Minnesota kids? In the Letteri case the Gophers offered Vinny a scholarship in the summer around the same time UND did. UND and the Gophers recruit a lot of the same Minnesota kids that are in their junior and senior years of high school and offer them scholarships around the same time. Which players in past history did the Gophers not offer a scholarship to a player too early because they were arrogant enough to think they can get any Minnesota player they wanted.

  11. Yeah, I'm sure they would have liked to have him, but I don't think they'll dwell on it. After all, UND has lost numerous recruits to Minnesota in the last 3-4 years, and the Sioux seem to have come out all right. It's what you do with them when they get here that counts.

I agree with your statement, I just think the coaches were alittle more disappointed in not getting Letteri than Siouxforce 19 was considering they offered him a scholorship.

  12. What a weak example of trying to discredit a fanbase as not being the best in treating opposing fans. You are a fan of a major rival school, of course you are going to be heckled by some d-bags. Just like I am every time I wear a Sioux jersey at the Mariucci.

Either way though, I do agree with you on the ranking of fanbases. It is totally in the eye of the beholder.

Remember 7>5 is the one who made the comment "they treat fans the best in their home arena" He has his opinion but he also is not an opposing fan in his home arena.

  13. Now that you said that, I understand why I'm arguing with you! If you were a fan, it would make you proud that a player on a pro team is from the college that you love and support! Until you understand that................................nevermind

I am fan of the wild and I could care less if a sioux player is on the team. If he can play that's all that matters .I agree its cool when a player you follow in college makes it to the pros..

  14. Thats why it would be even better! (I'm such a rodent fan) GO SIOUX!!

I have no idea what your problem is  I agree with you about sioux players playing for the wild. If they can play who cares what college team they played for or where they are from.

  15. I guess the thing you should have noticed that I said was "I would like it" What that means is I would like to see that and I could care less what you think! You see I bleed Sioux hockey and I am a fan of the Wild! Just a thought.

Relax Bigsky, That's nice you bleed sioux hockey and your a Wild fan but I was responding to your comment about sioux players playing in Mn would be "a little salt in the wounds". I'm just saying that I don't think any Wild fan in Mn could care less if the Wild have ex- sioux players on their team especially if they are good (Parise, Toews, Stafford)

  16. I hope he goes to the Wild, with Chay, and possible Parise going there, it would be cool to have a Fighting Sioux Pro team, (especially in Mn, little salt in the wound) The Wild! I wish he would have stayed, but good luck JG, you will be missed. GO SIOUX!!

I don't think the majority of Wild fans, me included, could care less if their was some ex-sioux players on the team. I would take Parise, Stafford, Toews in a heartbeat if they wanted to sign with the Wild. They are just great players.

  17. I live 6 blocks from the river. I was a resident of Grand Forks before 1999 so I lost a lot of things in the flood of 1997. Yes I am tired of this flooding but if you are so wound up that you can't take a simple joke about sandbags then you have major issues that need counciling. I did not make a joke about people's houses going under; I did not make fun of someone's city getting flooded. I made fun of filling an empty arena with sandbags belonging to Grand Forks' rival city. But Fargo does need a place to store sandbags because of the political crap circling around a diversion, that IMO won't take place because every farmer and every little townsperson is so dead set against it.

Relax Darell, we just have a different opinion here. I think its inappropriate to make a joke about sandbags ( which is associated to a flood) and you think its funny to make jokes about the subject. As a previous Fargo resident and have family members still living there and you living six blocks from the river I hope you or my family never have to use these sandbags you joke about, regardless if they are stored in Fargo or Grand Forks. Like I said in a previous post I agree with you that Fargo needs to do something about protecting the city and its residents.

  18. Holy crap!!! It was a joke. Take a pill.

So, your comment was intended to be a joke, that's why I was asking if you were serious. I hope you don't live by the river or have friends living by the river the next time you make a "joke" about sandbags.

  19. darrell is a resident of Fargo who fights the flood year in and year out. I'm pretty sure as a resident who has put his time in fighting the flood his comment was not out of line. I think you need to chill out. You realize you are upset about him making a comment about "their sandbags" and not any form of flooding that has happened in his own town.

    Homer,

Fyi- I was born and raised in Fargo and still have family living there. Every year when the water rises my family fights the flood just like, in your words, Darrel fights the flood. Your right I do need to chill out, but if you saw a guy (Darrell) put a laughing smiley face behind a comment about sandbags what would you do if you had family living there?

  20. Unless Fargo gets a diversion (by that time the city would have been flooded a million times) or a giant flood wall (which won't happen) it may be a reality. People here are tired of sandbagging every damn year, and that river seems to get higher and higher.

I agree, Fargo needs to do something about the flooding but for you to take a cheap shot about storing their sandbags is a real !@#!$ remark.
