Oh I see, we're playing prison rules now!

Schedules aren't out for a while, so I don't think anyone can answer this question right now JFR. However, schools do tend to make agreements with one another to make trips to one another's arenas, so I wouldn't be surprised if North Dakota did make a trip to Quinnipiac for at least one game in the next year or two. It's always possible that they'll play someone else out east in the very near future. Just have to be patient.

PCM could be right, we don't know, and never will unless the NHL takes a trial period to totally eliminate fighting from the game. I stated earlier that 87% of fans continue to want fighting. No where in those numbers did it say that the entire 87% would quit watching the game if fighting was taken out. Some of those people may choose to quit watching, but I think the majority of the fans in that percentage would continue to watch the game. With the elimination of fighting completely, the variety of audiences for games may grow. Unless the NHL is willing to give it a try, we'll never know. It could result in more revenue for teams, or it could result in less, which would most likely lead to bringing it back. I don't watch hockey solely for the fights, but don't mind seeing one every now and then. That's my opinion though. If they eliminated it from every level, it wouldn't keep me from watching the best sport ever. Part of the joy of message board is to discuss differences. No one agrees with everyone else 100% of the time. However, this thread seems to have gone the route of the low road, where personal insults start to appear, which is sad to see.

North Dakota Devils/New Jersey Fighting Sioux!
Siouxdonyms replied to JESUS,family, rutgers's topic in Men's Hockey
It would be interesting to find out how much freedom the players have to just play hockey the way they know how, compared to following the team play/system. Overall, I know they have to follow the team system...in this case, defense first, but when you watch Parise and Zajac play together, it's almost as if they continue to implement the Blais/Hakstol system in their offense, as they're continually cycling the puck down low, and moving themselves into position after they pass the puck, to receive it again should they need to help out. Definitely fun to watch the two of them. -
When someone runs Gaborik, I'd want someone like Boogaard.

Pro hockey fights are no where near as frequent as what they were a decade ago. You're correct in that hockey has earned a bad reputation because of fighting, but that's largely due to the past and not the present. You can now watch many games and not witness any fights. To say that they occur in every game is incorrect. As far as being good mentors/role models to kids, how many celebrities live a life that could be a good model for kids? TV is terrible for kids, and it's up to parents to ensure your child has good values instilled in them. There are a lot worse forms of entertainment on television now days than a sporting event, including pro hockey, and the sad thing is that a lot of kids watch the most inappropriate things.

Here's the video clip of last night's goal by Parise, assisted by Zajac. Notice the 4 Bluejackets in deep, in addition to the goaltender, yet "The Sioux Two" as the Devils announcer referred to them last night pick them apart. Parise Goal (Zajac Assist)

We could argue this topic all day long but I believe a large part of it comes down to what the fans want. It was stated on TSN Canada this past week that 87% of fans still want fighting in the game, while 13% want less or no fighting. With that kind of lopsided poll, it's obvious what the NHL will do pertaining to fighting. The NHL has classed up in recent years in that the majority of players on teams can actually play hockey, and play it well. Yes, there are few players out there who are brought on to a team in the role of an enforcer, but it does appear that the NHL is leaning to making that person contribute in other ways to the game other than fighting. Maybe someday, fighting will be eliminated from the game, but right now, with 87% of fans wanting it, I don't see them eliminating it totally. I do think the NHL has done a very good job of reducing the number of fights in a game. However, I guess I'm somewhat old school in that I think a fight can turn around your team when they need it most. I don't want players to get injured, and for the most part, that doesn't happen as a result of fighting. However, hockey is a physical game, and as Redwing77's favorite player, Tie Domi said the other night, "If you don't want to play a physical game, go and get some toe picks and figure skate."

WCHA teams really struggling with Hockey East teams thus far in the season. I'm sure the gap will close as the season grows older.

Zajac interviewed at the end of the 2nd in the Devils game. Fully recovered from the hip injury he had.

I'm watching it, but you can try the Devils website though updates tend to be pretty slow there. Devils Webpage

ZPar just makes it 1-0 for the Devils with a great rap around. Zajac should get the primary assist.

Grieco makes a big save as the horn sounds at the end of the 1st. Great 1st period for the Sioux!
