ys. Guys that are buried on the depth chart.

That’s why (in my opinion) offenses and defenses need to play guys (especially with up ceilings) in games even if it is to burn a redshirt. The 40 plus carry days of Phillip Moore are gone. Hard for athletes to stay 2-3 years and play scout team and hope to see the field in jr or sr year.

Coaching success is no longer recruiting but also maintaining rosters and building relationships with kids who may go elsewhere (so if they enter the portal they may want to go to the school that showed genuine interest). It will be interesting which coaches adapt and those who do not.

nce again we do not recruit smaller guys on purpose. We just can’t get the big guys to commit to grand forks. Pretty easy to say we need to recruit bigger guys

Hopefully, we do recruit or we can get some through the transfer portal. Consistent winning seasons should help with recruitment.

he offense that beats NDSU is a 4-5 wide, sling it everywhere style with a mobile QB. That is nearly impossible to recruit that many athletes on the edges at the FCS level.

I’m not referring to the 80’s Bizun, yes they can run spread but it all starts with the run. We are not recruiting/scheming dealing with the physicality and size of their line. Fargo can go I run and QB zone run read. We may have to go with 4 man line or a 4-2. With how our defense been over the past few years against a physical run team has been slow death with run (Nichols, and Spring playoff game) The last few years we have had a decent secondary, however this year it has been uncharacteristically horrid.

I was just going to say why are NDSU fans so insecure the sound like a bunch of sad insecure babies

Does remind me years ago when they beat Iowa or Iowa State and there was a radio show making fun of them. Several fans made comments about how great they are without realizing it was razzing and in jest.

The purpose of ranking teams is to determine which team is mostly likely to win in the palyoffs, not to reward teams for their scheduling policy . IMO, you cannot determine which team really is the better team... the more likely team to win... without considering things like past playoff performances. It goes to the overall quality of the program.

Which is why UNI still gets love though they have been played inconsistent the past few years.

UND will definitely beat NDSU, possibly even today. But bringing up the all time record when NDSU has 9 titles in 11 years is just a silly way to make yourself feel good about a program that in all likelihood, will never win an FCS title unless basically all the top 5 teams left in the FCS leave for FBS.

When UND beats NDSU you'll all act like NDSU is terrible and they suck. Meanwhile, they will just keep winning titles.

I have said or posted nothing like that. So don’t say you….secondly, yes it is great about what they (Bizun) have done, but with sport or anything for that matter it is the now.

Do posters bring stuff up from the past yes. I do not go on their forum and try to defend UND or bring up the past because it’s their forum.

The series has often been in streaks, I just hope it’s not like the drought of 81ish to 1994 type drought.

how many FCS titles does that include for UND?

Probably more than NDSU will ever have I suppose....

Similar talk late 80’s early 90’s. Bizun lost their edge or as Rocky said Fat Cat syndrome. I think that is what Bizun fans worry about, is that History may repeat itself.

  8. Keys to win -

    No turnovers

Be aggressive on offense, (does not mean gimmick plays)

O-Line needs to A: Get some push with run game and B: protect Tommy especially if 4 man rush

Defense: Let’s make sure we get off the field on 3rd down, make them uncomfortable on offense, bend and don’t break!

    win special teams!

Lastly we may give up a big play, if and when that happens the team and staff cannot have a panic attack like 3rd quarter SDSU.

ey were looking at Tommy because they recruit Michigan kids. Prob thought the same thing as the other D1 schools that over looked him.

My thinking is, looking at their style, they wanted a running quarterback with a strong arm. Which I think we were thinking of doing before Cedric or what ever his name was, chose not to go to UND.

  10. Joe Glenn led S Dakota over NDSU in Fargo in 2015, why not us.

2015 we went 7-4 and was denied

    Seven years later

    We have 7 wins

3 sevens let’s go Lady Luck and let us win in Fargo for our 8th win!

looks like a lot of pollsters are falling for UC Davis. 6-4 right now, play Sac State this weekend... will the committee put in a 6-5 Davis over a 7-4 team?

They may….they been blowing out the last 5 opponents. 2pt loss at SDSU, 5 pt loss Weber State, biggest FCS loss 17 to Montana State. 21 pt FBS loss to Cal.

We had lots of high snaps. Playing with fire. HAVE to clean that up in practice this week.

That’s one thing that makes me nervous, we need to limit the negative plays so we can keep their defense off balance. Poor snaps are not only negative plays, but wasted plays.

I shouldn’t have to clarify anything, BUT, my comments still stand. Several of UND’s current players held only D2 offers when they were recruited by UND. Example: Tommy Schuster. Obviously, that’s not entirely true for entire team (there’s several FCS transfers and others who held DI offers). Also, some of those players with only D2 offers, like Tommy, have ascended big time.

According to Indiana State’s head coach they were interested with Tommy. Unless he was just puffing up UND the last few minutes.

I do agree, the more consistent winning the deeper our recruiting class can be.

  14. The game went as I thought it would, kind of went too conservative the last 9 minutes or so. Overall a solid effort. If there is constructive criticism is that we need to improve on 3rd down and when given the opportunity …. get the sack, we left a few out there.

Next week, hopefully we are efficient on offense and use a silent count and have solid snaps. My guess we will have to use quick passes and set up the deeper stuff later. If we can control the ball, it will give us a chance to win. Defense bend and not break and hopefully get a turnover or two.

I view next week another playoff game. If we win possible seeding, if a narrow loss we get in. If we get blown out, it may give the selection committee an excuse to leave us out.

I wonder how the yotes will get up I29 with this storm.  They might want to leave today.

Or arrive later like UND did when Idaho State pumped over 50 on us in Idaho.
