I certainly do - and the fog that would hang up among the rafters. I would start by changing almost everything that comes over the PA system after the game starts. How many times have you seen the crowd cheering a strong Sioux effort only to be silenced by blaring music or some inane ad or contest. If they have enough money for a multi-million scoreboard then they could certainly forgo a bit of ad revenue during the game (looking at you, Steamatic). I would also make an effort to coordinate cheers - get everyone in the sieve cheer for example - maybe by flashing the cheer on the new scoreboard. And have the students develop some cheers from their section. Remember the Farce - half the fun at games was their creativity. Too much PA control by people who think corporate and do not know enough about the game.
Agree 100%. Crowd chants are way more important than music. The person with the music button should be aware and never shut down a cheer. Music has a place but people come to be part of the game, not be forced to remain silent. (No offense to our DJ friend)

If you were King of Hockey, what would you change, impose, or otherwise decree to make REA the best fan experience in the college hockey kingdom? (Other than winning of course)

I am the DJ/Announcer for the NAHL team in Minot, ND (we've had a few guys go NCHC...looking at you Jon Lizotte). I used to get people bitching to me about the music (songs and Volume) ALL the time. while it is IMPOSSIBE to please everybody, last year I adopted a system that actually worked, 1 country song - 1 hip-hop/rap song - 1 older rock song - 1 new rock song then repeated that order most of the game. I of course used some song situationally to pump people up, or make them laugh. I however ALWAYS let the players pick the warm-up song list no matter what, its their time to get in the zone and get going. while it was a few EDM type songs they actually would throw in a few surprises.
also another thing to think about is the age of these players, most of these kids were like 3 or 4 years old the last time godsmack was popular....they might not even know who they are haha
Glad to hear you change it up and good point on the age of the players.
An observation and a couple questions:
I’ve found the insanely loud and constant music like we hear in several arenas is not only painful but has the unintended consequence of taking out the crowd by shutting down all spontaneous cheers/chants.
Season ticket holders and regulars at Nationwide wear earplugs and would like to catch the DJ alone .
When the music starts everyone sits down.
To be fair I haven’t been to a UND game in 4 yrs but I feel fortunate to get a DJ’s opinion: what do you think about recorded music vs a college band? What would happen with the crowd and atmosphere if recorded music (except for warm ups and limited situations) wasn’t used at UND?
TIA for a response

We need to re-establish our brand nationally as a program where top talent can go and develop into NHL ready players.

I’ve always like how Minnie get the opposing team in such a small area. I noticed another team doing it too this last season but I can’t remember the team it was, maybe either St.Cloud or was it Mankato?
I don’t know UND’s or St Cloud’s HDC per attempt either 5v5 or PP but based on all the bad “puck luck” I’d guess ours isn’t good. That’s something coaching can help.

Really? All I hear at hockey games is "Let's go Sioux!" What does that tell you?
Sounds like an obsession

It looks pretty big, i hipe it doesnt distract too much.
The way the REA blasts the crappy stoppage time music and effects into your skull, i just hope the new scoreboard, led ribbon and the end monitors dont accentuate that effect tio much and end up with a multi media seizure everytime the wistle blows.
Reserving judgement till i see it in a game, love that they're investing in the building now.
Nothing shuts down a crowd like ear damaging clown crazy music. Might as well tell the crowd to sit down and stfu because our fake energy is better than your real energy. We will tell you when to make noise, be loud, be happy, or stand up. The NHL arena I attend is literally like sitting directly in front of Metallica’s speakers for 3 hours.

Hey guys, our first podcast is out. Look up SiouxLite on spotify or Itunes to give it a listen. We had brad schlossman on for our first episode and we are having on alex heinert tonight. What type of questions would you guys like to see us ask him?
Well done! Doesn’t load on iTunes for me but Spotify works perfectly. Especially enjoyed the Schlossman episode regarding incoming players and coach search.

This is the new norm in this country. Even if we had gotten tribal approval from Standing Rock and were able to keep the Sioux name, I can't imagine what the SJW outcry to retire the name now would be. There will be a time when FSU will get rid of the Seminoles and the Washington Redskins will be known as something else. That time is coming. As much as I wanted to keep the Sioux name, it is refreshing that UND does not have to deal with the issue anymore.
In 30 yrs NA’s will be demanding public schools take tribal names. I too wanted to keep Sioux but I was wrong, the school deserved better.

there's probably a good book to be written about how much the focus on a name and logo are hindering the university and its athletic programs

Actually the fact that it’s been very quite has me thinking it’s going to be a hire within.
I don’t see how that helps us. Might be better to get someone with strong ties to coaches in rich recruiting area. We have Grand Forks pretty much covered.

From Kennedy's response to the de facto acceptance of his resignation, did Kennedy actually put his resignation in to SBoHE like he said he would if he takes the job in CO?
It just got awkward. Might have been better to say nothing from the start.

I asked Berry at the beginning of the season if UND still respected the gentleman's agreement and he said he did.
Hate say it but if Berry is still doing the GA then he is in the Stone Age of big time sports. That’s not how it works anymore and there is nothing easier than recruiting against a gentlemen’s agreement.
Big 10 football used the gentlemen’s agreement and got smoked by the SEC every year. Then Urban Meyer showed up from Florida in 2012, tossed out the GA and OSU has run roughshod in the Big ever since. Now they all get it.
UND has been a powerhouse a long time but will be left in the dust unless recruiting becomes a competition as fierce as the games.

Are they ill-tempered? Seriously, one thing that could change easily is that incessant mood-killing crap coming over the PA during every break. If play stops during an exciting stretch dominated by the Sioux, you can count on the PA to take the crowd out of it with blaring music or a commercial. Those who were in Vegas can see the difference.
The DJ thinks it’s all about him. God forbid the crowd make some noise or enjoy the moment, instead blast them back into their seats. Colleges have bands, use them
They do the same at Blue Jackets games. Never allow the crowd to get into the game. The sadist DJ thinks the crowd is incapable of being part of the game and blows he place up past jet engine decibel level at every single break. It literally wears you out. People bring ear plugs to the games.

I’d like to see someone who played relatively recently in the NHL be in charge of the PP. I suppose salary would be an issue.

I hope Ohio State is out early. Their program is spending its way to a championship (nttiawwt) and they don’t need any more momentum for recruiting

Do you think we are getting this level of conditioning? Seems we are out of gas late in games and a tad slow overall.
