Yea, any given Saturday Bama and Georgia from this year would beat those three teams by 40. I’m assuming you watched that game. Those two teams were playing on a different level than all other college teams.

This couldn't be more spot on. I realistically watched 30-40 college football games this year ranging from NAIA to FBS and this game was as close to the NFL as you will find.

Why even watch sports if there isn’t drama and surprises, the whole point of watching is you don’t know how things will play out isn’t it? I’m amazed at how cynical some here are about the possibility of upsets. For me they are the main thing that makes sports worth watching. If we knew for sure who would win a game before it starts, that would be a pretty boring game.

I love upsets. I follow Minnesota profesional sports and UND football. Every win that "my teams" get is considered an upset. I am simply being realistic. The NCAA is a business driven by money. If the figures don't match up, we will never get an expanded playoffs. If they can make more money by expanding, then they will expand until they can't anymore.

I think what upsets UND fans the most (besides NDSU's success because its a rivalry and no one wants their rival to succeed) Is the unrealistic fans that think if NDSU transitions it will be smooth and butter and they will continue their dominance. I'm not even going bring up the "We want Bama" crowd.

They’ve never had the opportunity either. Can’t happen under the current structure.

On paper, Georgia and Alabama would dominate Houston or Utah or Boise St. But any given Saturday as they say.

Ya ya ya "Any given Saturday..." Yadayadayada.........

If FBS playoffs go to 8 teams or 12 teams it is simply because they will make out better financially. Everyone was excited when it went to 4, well the semi final games have all been complete snoozers. If they expand and use an auto bid format it will be even worse. I'm not against them expanding, but simply take the best 12 teams in the nation. If that means 4 SEC teams and 4 B10 teams, well if they are the best they are the best.

Also, Utah isn't in the same category as Houston or Boise St. They are a P5 team.

I'm just waiting for the P5 conferences to give the middle finger to the NCAA and break off.

The group of 5 conferences are just FCS schools with an FBS title. The MAC and the MVFC are pretty similar.

  4. Dom is a beat writer. He's an NDSU beat writer who is under the thumb of the NDSU coaching staff and doesn't say anything without getting the "ok" from them. If you don't believe this, your delusional.

He does a fine job covering ND HS athletics, but once he enters the FCS territory, well then he isn't an unbiased member of the media. He is is an NDSU homer, which is smart for his current job.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. I'll be honest, this game doesn't look good for the good guys. Really just doesn't feel like this team has that special something that it will take to bring down the Bison. I don't hate anything we are bringing to the table, but I don't love it either. I still think this is a playoff caliber team if the OL continues to make strides and Otis can be Otis. Defense is pretty salty. I just don't think we have the dudes to keep up with NDSU

I'll say at worst 75/25, but more likely in the 80/20 to 85/15. What % would season ticket holders / students account for? I got tickets right away with the CC and there weren't that many tickets available. My guess will be 85/15.

I hope your right. I'll tip my cap to the Bison in that regard. Their fans are compared to the likes of UND hockey

That is not what people on this board were saying that supposedly were in the know. They were saying UND had a much better shot at Hegerle than most thought. Maybe even an inside track. While I don't think Entz is a great recruiter, thankfully some assistants are and the program kind of recruits itself.

I would say that is correct. The fact that he didn't just choose NDSU right away shows that there was interest in UND. He also went to a couple UND games and on an official visit, while liking many UND related tweets. Why would he do that if UND didn't have a shot?

Through the grapevine I heard Entz dropped the ball on Belquist big time. Didn’t know that he was a legacy player or approach his recruiting with that in mind.
Maybe he would have played for UND in the end anyway, but I was told he would have liked to have been a Bison but the recruiting was such a turnoff that he wouldn’t have been at NDSU even if they offered in the end.

Entz isn’t high on a lot of insiders list these days. Hopefully he figures it out or mediocrity is definitely going to seep in.

I've heard the same thing. It's not hard to see where my fandom lies, but from the outside looking in it has been obvious to see that Entz isn't the coach Bohl or Kleiman is. He has brought a level of ignorance and cockiness that wasn't there before. I'll be honest, for as much as I dislike NDSU for the simple fact that's how I was raised, I respected the hell of of them and their coaches when they were in their hayday and they didn't even drive me that crazy because they were doing things the right way. That's not the case with the current NDSU program and well I believe we are all watching an empire fall because of it......

I think we offered before he went to their camp. That’s what I heard at least. Pretty sure he committed to us after they blew him off at their camp.

That could very well be true. I know he came to camp and tore it up here

They didn’t even talk to him at their camp.

Fact. Then he came to UND's camp and left with an offer. UND has shown their camp evaluation are much better than the school to the South. MooU tends to use their camp to make money, UND leans the way of finding more dudes.

He’s more outraged that the don’t have many 3 star prospects and kids with FBS offers.

his excuse for our Moorhead recruits is that Moorhead is soft and that they are not tough so I guess they will have to show the Bison what soft is!

If the Spuds are soft, what does that make every school in Fargo? They would beat all of them by two scores.

The kids brother is on the roster. It would have been a really bad look if they had not gotten him.

Kinda like Feeney and Belquist's Dads playing for NDSU and their kids going to UND?

Studsrud was held back by both the offense we ran while he was here plus the lack of a solid back-up which limited how much they utilized his legs.

Ketteringham was the gun-slinger everyone clamors for when you just spent a few years watching an incredibly bland offense. I was surprised to look back and see he completed 64% of his passes his senior year. 10 picks was a few too many though.

I think both of these guys would have ended up being remembered differently with a different OC (acknowledging Danny was in his first year of OC Kett's senior year).

My beef with Kett is you could tell he was not really a leader or good team guy. Didn't he push Bubba on the sideline once? ha

As I’ve said, UND has some nice players, I’m not diminishing their abilities. However, in the context of this conversation which started by saying UND doesn’t have a single receiving with game breaking, over the top speed. In that respect, Watson is special and is the type of player that gets highlighted in a defensive game planning session. UND didn’t have a receiver like that this year.

For the record, I’m not the one who initiated the UND vs NDSU receivers conversation. I simply made a comment about UNDs lack of elite speed at the receiver position which is a well known and commonly discussed topic on this board.

If he was so fast, why did Maeg accumulare more receiving yards? If I'm an OC with half a brain, I'm taking shots to a game changing WR all day. I wonder if Roehl knows this is how one's brain should operate?

I don’t think a freshman QB having a tendency to lock onto a read and not check other reads is only a Schuster trait.  Hopefully gets better with experience.
