Dukes need to get it together. NDSU will suffocate them if they don't pull away.

I'm afraid it's already too late. Looking like a tie ball game shortly. Then NDSU will control the clock and win by a score

Appears the Bison have their hands full

Having that TD called back hurt JMU a lot. If they want to beat the bison they will have to get up big in the first half. This NDSU team always seems to dominate the second half mainly due to their conditioning.

No unbiased viewer would think that every fanbase doesn't have a-hole fans. Thinking UND fans don't have those who don't represent their school well is just naive.

Your comments show that you are clearly biased, I don't need to know you in the slightest to see that.

I never said UND doesn't have their gems. NDSU just happens to have a substantial amount. It's obvious to all other fan bases. So sh sh shush

It seems like a lot of your experiences dealing with NDSU fans have been through the prism of a UND fan, hardly an unbiased view.

How much experience do you have viewing UND fans through an NDSU fans prism?

Because you know me so well? I've actually been to more NDSU sporting events than UND events due to the fact that I grew up in Fargo. Just happen to be a big hockey fan...and can't seem to find anywhere to chat about NDSU hockey so I come here.

I also have quite a bit of experience of viewing UND fans through an NDSU alum because my wife went there. She completely agrees and is actually ashamed to be associated with NDSU at times.

She has worn NDSU attire to UND games recently and only received friendly banter. I do recognize that she is a women, so that may change people's attitude towards commenting but it is the experience I have obtained.

Please go back to bisonville where you can spew comments at your fellow peers in forums titled 'John Deere vs case IH' :)

I Googled und hockey fan...first image is not a flattering portrayal of your university

Pictures are worth a thousand words, right?

Much more respectable than an NDSU fan no doubt about it. I went to neither UND nor NDSU so this is a pretty unbiased opinion. I have just followed UND closer within the past two years since I moved to GF. Never thought I'd get retaliation for ripping on bison fans on a UND site though...this was unexpected !!

C'mon, be fair to the bison fans. they are not all bad people.....it's the few rotten thousands that spoil if for the other 10

Exactly. I could type all day about that fan base.

You must not run into the same Bison fans I run into. I accepted it for a little bit but now it has gotten ridiculous. I can't even begin to describe! I wanted them to lose worse than I wanted UND to win...seriously.

I have actually started to resent Fargo all together because of their fan base.

UND sports fan here, but also a fan of the state of ND.  The only good thing that would come out of a NDSU loss would be to quiet some of the NDSU fan base who think they can do no wrong.  They can be a cocky bunch, but in reality by winning 5 in a row I can see why.

The biggest difference that I've always appreciated by UND fans are that most of us typically support other ND programs (NDSU) when they are still left in the playoffs.   In my opinion, the greater good is the fact that both programs have some local kids that I feel we should always support.  We don't want to stoop to the level of those rabid NDSU fans who only want a UND loss (in any sport) or spew their usual "Sioux suck" chant.  Just my two cents, but I've always believed UND fans are a higher level of class.

That 3-0 score does not indicate how that game went. Jamestown was by far the inferior team. One thing they do have and that's a pretty solid goaltender. If he goes down then they are really hurting.

If a team only stays in a game due to their goalie's performance, then they stayed in the game because the goalie is part of the team. But exactly like you said, if he were to go down, that'll change everything. Teams that rely on their goaltending tend to be much more susceptible to feeling the burn when the injury bug hits. Even more so than teams that rely on one star forward or their top line.

I think you have the East teams in the right order.  Out west I would still put Century and Minot ahead of Mandan, Dix and Jamestown overall, but I don't think it's a huge gap. Jamestowns goalie will keep them in games.

It will be interesting to see if Bismarck can hang with Central.  I wish the Central vs RR game was on tv this weekend.

Yeah that will be quite the game. I am anxious to see how BHS does against a pretty solid DL team tonight. After that I think it will be easier to gauge how well they will handle Central. As I said before, I think BHS will beat RR. I am thinking the RR and Century game might be tighter than past years with RR being down. I hope to make it to a couple of those games to see some of this in person!

Central outshot North last night 41-2........'nuf said.

    Davies crushed South/Shanley.

Yeah I really don't see Central losing a game this season. Looks like my rankings were accurate for Davies and South, but my comment about them was not. The 2-5 spots in the East might get interesting!

Grafton has been shut out 3 games in a row...ouch

Jamestown and Century square up tonight. I will take Jamestown with a 1 goal game.

Bismarck High takes on Devils Lake in DL tonight. I am taking BHS in this one 4-3. Seeing that BHS only beat a weak West Fargo team 4-2 and gave up 25+ shots...I see this game being closer than most might predict.

You have Jamestown way to high. I hope I'm wrong but they have only played Bismarck and got outplayed badly by them. See how they do in their next 3. Century, Minot, and Davies.

They are 4-1 and outscoring their opponents 26-7, so that seemed like a pretty strong start to me. I can see them getting caught up in the mix with Minot, Mandan and Century but IMO I think Jamestown has proven themselves the most. But just like you said, their next 3 games will shine a light on their true potential.

  13. GFC is the clear #1 in the state this season and HB is the obvious bottom feeder, but what are your thoughts on all of the teams in between?

    My early season rankings:

    East:   1. Grand Forks Central

               2. Grand Forks Red River

               3. Fargo Davies

               4. Devils Lake

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

               5. Fargo South/Shanley

              6. Fargo North

              7. West Fargo

              8. Grafton

    West:  1. Bismarck High

               2. Jamestown

               3. Bismarck Century

               4. Minot

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

              5. Mandan

              6. Dickinson

             7. Bott

             8. Williston

            9. Hazen/Beulah

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if South beat Davies tonight. South took a tough loss to DL early on but kept within one goal against RR. They are a tough team to read. I also predict that both South and DL will end up passing Davies in the standings, but I had to give them the #3 spot just with how things have played out so far. I also see South, Davies and/or DL beating RR at some point this season, as they are showing to be playing well below expectations thus far. Costello has been far from spectacular, does anyone know the story with him?

Bismarck High is the easy favorite out West again. And as always, the mix of Mandan, Century and Minot is hard to read. Just when you think you have them figured out, one of them gets blown out by a lower ranked team. Should make for an interesting season!

I personally look forward to the West/East clash in the GF Holiday tournament when BHS comes to town. I think Central will take care of BHS but RR will fall short to the Western King.

The basketball team has a jersey design similar to the hockey team with 'North' on the top, 'Dakota' on the bottom, and a number in the middle.  They have updated their jerseys to the new script.  Will be interesting to see if the hockey team does the same.

Where is the new logo on these? Must be pretty subtle. Either way, I think these look pretty sharp.

So with the adoption of a new name and logo, teams are transitioning to new Fighting Hawks jerseys.  Other sports have already made the move.  Hockey will eventually as well.  I don't think that we will see the logo as predominately displayed on the front of the hockey jersey as the Sioux logo, but it will be on there in some way, most likely on the shoulder.  This brings me to what I am wondering.  Will the hockey team come out with a redesign of some new jerseys?  Or will they just stick with the current design and replace the interlocking ND patch on the shoulders with the Fighting Hawks logo?

My guess would be just replacing the interlocking ND on the shoulders.

The problem is . . . you can't punt against the Bison.  You have to score first and keep scoring.  Go for it on 4th down.  If they're more than 1 or 2 scores behind, they can't be doing those crazy 20 minute drives and Stick has to throw the ball.  As soon as SDSU punted on their first 4th down, they were hosed.

No punting against NDSU? Screw field position!

Quite the strategy there, but unfortunately that will most likely give the other team repetitive short fields to score on at will.

I think a team like JMU will have to score early on and create some long successful drives to drain the clock. I hate it, but NDSU is really good at keeping the chains moving while eating up the clock and still scoring to shut down other offenses...because they cant get on the field. Creating turnovers and capitalizing on them while being competitive on the TOP battle with NDSU is JMU's only chance.

A team like EWU will have to score on 3/4 of their possessions to beat NDSU because their Defense sure as hell won't stop NDSU's run game.

Either way, I am rooting for JMU Friday, and fellow Big Sky peer EWU there after.
