No offense, but I think Wisconsin natives refer to these as "bread and water."

MasseyRatings picks for the NCAA first round: https://masseyratings.com/ch/ncaa-d1/games
Massey sees the SCSU/BU game as closest to a coin-flip game.
To me, the most intriguing first-round matchup is Michigan/Duluth. I'd say it's a matchup of youth versus experience, but UMD has lost some key veteran pieces from their championship teams.

I don't feel sorry for anyone. This is the playoffs. Time for everyone to strap the helmets on and go for it.
Especially since being cheered against can be motivating ("us against the world..."). We still have execute...no excuses like "the ice was bad" or "the refs were bad" will matter.

Being The Loveland region has both Mankato and Omaha in it I'm going to refer to Mankato as the Mavericks and Omaha as the Mavettes.

How about the Little Red Mavettes?

Sounds like the coach got it. That's gotta be a tough one for the coach.
Honest question: If it's true that only the head coach tested positive, why couldn't St. Lawrence just play with an assistant coach acting as head coach?

So if I'm not mistaken, those of us who have Hulu have access to the ESPN3.

Oh shoot. NCAA website says UND first round game on ESPN3. I don't have ESPN3 anymore, dangit.

SCSU wins the Albany regional.

Bridgeport regional seems weakest. That being said, the Beavers can beat Wisco, especially if they're able to frustrate Caufield.

Article on Gaber
Thanks for sharing this link. Good article. Gaber is one of those guys you can't help but cheer for: undrafted, undersized, hardworking, humble. Works his butt off on the defensive end. Terrific finishing skills. Someone here said Gaber is reminiscent of Drake Caggiula. That's a pretty good comp, imo.

UMass leads Lowell 1-0
Bad goal to give up
Lowell goalie blockered the puck right into the net. Whoops.

Denver/UNO needed Mankato to win the WCHA.

Number 1 seeds:
UND, BC, Mankato, UMinn Gophers
The rest:
Wisconsin, Michigan, BU, UMass, Bemidji St., Quinnipiac, Minn Duluth, SCSU, Denver, AIC, Providence, Bowling Green

UND at its best can play with and beat anyone. Bring 'em on.

And since we're talking defenseman, Kleven's slapshot is ridiculously rocket-like.

Yeah, not ideal. But, Sanderson (assuming/thinking/hoping/praying he stays), Frisch, Kleven, and Moore is a solid start.
We're so fortunate. Sandy, Frisch, Kleven, and Moore? Any program would be stoked to roll those two d-pairings out on the ice.

Big IF, but IF we were to need some short term depth at defense, or any position, there will likely be a lot of skilled transfers available due to the Covid rule.
Good point.

Question 1: Is this year's group of defensemen--Kierstad, JBD, Sanderson, Kleven, Frisch, Bast/Rieger--the best that UND has ever had?
Question 2: Who in UND's history is Jake Sanderson most like? Comps?

I think UND has actually been better and more creative offensively than last night, but their defensive game has not been good. SC has had way too much time and it has resulted in a bunch of good chances.
No JBD is a huge hole for us. We need that guy back.

Jake Sanderson is so elite, it's obnoxious.
So fun to watch that guy. Offensively he's on another planet even compared to the d-men on the 2015-16 team.

Does anyone believe they'll take a team with an under 0.500 record?
No, with one exception: Denver.
Reportedly one of the NCAA's stated goals is to reduce air travel as much as possible for the regional tournaments. As host of the Loveland regional, putting Denver in the tourney would accomplish that goal while being defensible* on purely meritorious grounds.
*HOW defensible is a matter of opinion, of course.

Did anyone hear Starman talking about Judd Caulfield & Pittsburgh last night. Made a comment about UND coaches calling Pittsburgh and telling them they better come watch him. Wasn't quite sure what he was getting at with that comment....
Judd seems much improved this year--faster, more assertive. I'm really excited to see where his game goes next year. For some reason I thought that this was his junior year, but he's only a sophomore.
The NCAA's. UND vs. AIC.

But that game yielded one of the best Sioux highlights EVER.
